  1. I don't blame you one bit and commend you for it right or wrong you give that up you have nothing. I've been in bad situations before and still feeling the pain from it in this sport, at the end of the day it's what feels right is what matters. We have to live with the decisions we make and people say may say I wouldn't have done that or whatever but they aren't you, let's face it you and ATM have large shoes, shoes that none of us would want to be walking in (unless they are at the winners circle ) only you can decide what's right or wrong and everyone should respect that.
  2. I've been reading all the threads on GL very interesting stuff. A new article got posted today with quotes from anglers on what they saw, appauling to say the least (if it's true) official protests mean business though.
  3. Yo Ducky, I'm running 30 pound Opti Wire (works just as good as my friends Malin I was borrowing the last few seasons) 1000 ft fits a 47 perfect no backing, wrap the spool with electrical tape first before spooling and spool it tight but not overly tight. Before I fished with them the first time, I clipped on 8oz and ran them back out on the water at 4mph to 900 ft just to be 100% sure the wire was laying the spool properly so when the first screamer took off the line came off perfect (which it did) when you let your divers out thumb them out slowly to around 40 ft then put engage the reel then let the rest out with a loose drag, let them out slowly. Use the wire line knot on the LOTSA site to connect your swivel, no crimps to mess with and it's a strong knot, most guys use this and no complaints. As far as depth goes. Read this http://www.attheoak.com/tips.html it's pretty accurate. I found 300' and 600' spools in both 30 lb and 45 lb. Which is best to use? 45lb faster sink rate gets deeper.
  4. You a phish phan? catch the Spac shows? I went to Blossom good times
  5. For whatever it's worth EVERYONE on Ohio waters Erie pulls either Aurolites or Frank's Amish boards. I think in my 2-5 days of fishing PER week down here over the past 10 years of serious walleye/steelhead fishing I can count on one hand how many times I've seen Otter boats if that tells you anything. Guys are pulling 4-6 40 or 50 jets PER side. No way no how that is less pull than 1 or 2 coppers out in deep water guys will add 2-3 oz in front of a 40 jet 200 back on these lines as well. Aurolites or Frank's Amish boards are the way to go and they run right out of the box.....IMO of course.
  6. Thanks for looking into this for a couple Ohio boys Billy, much appreciated. Commodore is a friend of mine. Something isn't right this issue defintely is happening with the 700's as noted by many others as I poked around on some links I found other thread on OGF. These two fellas aren't the only guys having this issue. I know people with 800, 900 and 1100 series down here in Ohio and nobody is having this issue either.
  7. 40 or 50 lb Seaguar leader material
  8. Raider a guy on OGF (Commadore 64) is having issues with a 7 series bird right now, look under the electronics forum. someone posted a link to a forum I guess many guys are having the same issue as he is. losing bottom and not marking fish. Nobody is perfect. Bird, Lowrance whoever.
  9. I wouldn't do it they are bound to get tangled even without a fish, fish on forget it.
  10. I have 3 lowrances on my current boat and have had 4 others in years past no issues whatsoever. Some of the HDS units had bad seal problems but no issues on the unit you purchased and the HDS units (newer ones) the seals have been fixed on them. I say run it.
  11. I would run wire on both. Run your insides on a .5 or 1 setting regular or mag diver and on the outside run a 2.5 or 3 setting. As long as you let them plane out with your thumb on initial deployment you'll be able to run both.
  12. I believe these rods are to be used for dipsey diver use. Any rods with medium or medium heavy are sufficient.
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Team Ranger ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8-11 Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 0-4's depending on day Surface Temp: 72-78 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 100 between all 4 days Total Boated: at least 50 with skips Species Breakdown: 7 browns, 1 laker, 6 coho, a bunch of steelies, the rest kings Hot Lure: Billy V Green Ghost with Green Dot Spinny (AKA Green Goblin) NKB Spinny with Crazy B Fly. custom R&R white back spoon, Tranny. Trolling Speed: 2.6-3.4 Down Speed: 2.9 - 3.1 at ball Boat Depth: 64-255 Lure Depth: 45-70 most of trip temp seemed to be best 50's- 60's ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Had a great 4 days, my fish and days all ran together Fished from 7- 4 (had to run wires out and get set up for salmon first time out this year) we probably took 30 shots a great mix of 1 and 2 yr old kings, some nice steelies in the 3-7 pound range and some nice Coho nothing huge out of those species though Our 3 nice fish were, 1 over 20 (22 if I had to guess) came on a Michael Jackson spin doc and ATM fly off the rigger (hit 1 second after dropping it and running it through bait with a huge hook running though it…gotta love that!) and the other 2 were nice teenage fish, both off wires parked at 170 and 185 off spin docs and ATM fly's. Thursday we worked and pulled fish in 2 main depths 201-207 earlier on and 74-79 afternoon to late afternoon this depth took the nicest and biggest fish, and in the heat of the day…weird.. perfect screens with monster bait balls, hooks and great temp the temp band was between the 50's and 60's down ALL our fish came from within this band the entire trip. 3.0 at the ball going west did the best. Friday, we fished 15-16 hours. It was our slowest day and rained for most of the day which kind of sucked but after the heat we dealt with I wasn't ****ing. The king action slowed to a crawl only taking 1 good fish in 210 FOW and the rest of the day we picked away at 15 or so bites a lot of skips but we boxed 5 nice browns with the biggest at 11lbs which actually would be sitting around 7th-9th place in the LOC derby (depends what it would have weighted on LOC scale) if we would have gotten in. We also took a nice Coho at 11lbs as well and the rest of the browns were nice little 3-5 pound footballs. We really tried some different stuff to get something going but the king action just wasn't there for us maybe it was the rain and overcast I don't know, judging by what we saw and heard at the fish cleaning it wasn't much better for anyone else but we still caught fish and had a blast. The big brown was the fish of the day. We fished 55-270 FOW. Saturday fished with Shade you guys may have seen that report and pics so won't post all that again good day in the rough water. Sunday - Slower for us, since we had great action in 150 Saturday we started in 110 and crabbed it north, action was slow but we ended up getting 2 nice browns, one low teen on wire with the NKB and Crazy B fly…again and 5 skips to end the trip. Had a big king come off the leadcore at 150 after it shot out a bunch of line after getting blasted (cranked in over 350 ft of line) ohh well it was the only nice fish we lost the whole trip…it would be our last as well. Also caught and Atlantic (released very well), we let go many many fish carefully throughout the trip that one hit off the rigger and did a few nice jumps. white backed NK as seen in the pic. Awesome looking fish. Good times and boy is it easier fishing with a speed and temp probe but I wonder if I'm doing myself a dis-justice by not running any baits in the ice water looking for a big bite??? The bait and marks were all in temp though and I caught there.
  14. Take it from an Ohio walleye guy, the migration is VERY early. Wait another 3-5 weeks and watch your catch rate go up. Geneva is an absolute blood bath of fish right now 36 fish by 11:30 in the morning, all this hot weather we are having. A TON of fish are heading your way! This August/September will be the best you guys have seen in awhile. Enjoy it!
  15. Blacks here for me as well. no complaints. I only drag shakers while using 11 inch paddles otherwise I can see my rod shaking with 8 inch docs or spoons, however more often then not they release it. I have them set juuuuust right.
  16. I'm not a local but make muliple trips per year, one trip they wanted it at 2.4-2.6 EVERY other trip they wanted the spoons and spin docs/fly's at 2.8-3.1. They just always seem to want it fast for me. However what works on one guys boat may not work on another guys boat program wise. I do always try slower but never seem to get bit.
  17. Here are a few pics I took from our trip on your boat. you can email me at [email protected] send over the high res pics looks like you got some nice shots.
  18. What are the downsides to Flea Flicker as far as you guys are concerned? I used it on Shade's boat and it seemed to work great compared to my 30lb Maxima.
  19. Thanks again for taking us out on your rig had a blast fishing with you and you crew and I'm glad the "HAT" didn't get busted out for dropping a fish. Thank god skips don't count or I would have been the first victim . I'll upload a few pics after I get them on my computer, got home exausted last night and back at work today. THANKS AGAIN!
  20. Looking good, can't wait till sun up thursday morning!
  21. Here is what my harnesses look like. Single blade applications #2 Octopus on top # 6 trebel on the bottom I run these off inline weights or bottom bouncers. Open water double bladed apps (willows, hatchets) #2 Octopus on top # 4 trebel on the bottom or 6 with double blades I run off dipsey's I tie these short and add them to long flouro leaders, finish off with a ball bearing. I hook my crawlers right through the nose of the worm, thread it on 1/4 to 1/2 inch, the stick the trebel in it. Let it dangle after the trebel the bigger the better when it comes to worms you want it hanging as straight as possible or it will turn and spiral you don't want that, just a free haning tail. Nippers or not you want alot of tail hanging, all part of the worm game...it's worth it.
  22. Cool thanks Jeremy, I'm heading up next wed after work fishing thru-sun. I'll drive over to Pt Breeze if I have to but would rather not.
