Jax Olcott Report 7-20
K Gonefishin replied to Jax's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Great report, Olcott is a great place to fish out of, it's a great example of how all small port/harbors/lauches should be, coffee in the morning as well, everyone there is very nice. -
I use the same ones Tom uses on the tandem tourney flies, I believe they are Owner SST's

what line do you use?
K Gonefishin replied to salmonite's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
On riggers I use 30 pound Maxima ultra green, best mono on the market IMO. I have friends that swear by Ande and Big game as well. -

K Gonefishin replied to K Gonefishin's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I only plan on running these on the inside waters of less than 250 off wilson, the bar and olctott, I'm a rec fisherman just coming up for 2 weekends in august, if i lived in NY I would just spool them up with wire, I do have 2 wires just looking to add another set of divers. Thanks guys, keep the input coming -
25-30 lb Big Game for Divers
K Gonefishin posted a topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I have a set of wire divers and run one per side in my spread but was thinking of adding a set of mono divers and was thinking of spoolling up a couple 47's with 25-30 pound Big Game. Does anyone run mono divers on Ontario? Any plus or minus's to running them. just looking for an extra option that won't collect fleas I have some 40 pound power pro set up for divers I run on erie but those will just create a flea bag mess. thanks -
Storm Lures Wanted $$$ or Trade

I may have 1 or two of these used but not sure on the model number do you have pics or a link to a color chart of which ones you need? -
I fished it October of 08 on the 11th and 12 on saturday the 11th we went 7 for 8 biggest was 50 1/2 36 pounds, all other fish where over 40 most in the 42 -47 range, we used Ziggies and Nils, Wiley's can be good as well as Artifak baits, we used alot of local baits my friend is friends with a charter up there he went with us on our boat we took up there from Cleveland, we pulled big boards and fished near the Thame's river on the CA side. Sunday we did 4 for 5 in 4 hours, got one smaller fish lost a monster on a boat rod the rest where decent fish. If you go in the summer fish near the middle of the lake in the deepest part and pull big double cow girls 20 hookup a day are common when it's good. The weeds SUCK during the summer boat and down rods are most popular just for that reason.

I have fished the new Colorado Blades, they have been smokin hot on walleye on Erie, actually we have a Walleye Derby that goes on for 4 weeks in the spring the #1 fish (11.4)and the # 3 fish (10. BOTH came on Golden Walleye Gold Back #6 Blades. I'm meeting up with the owner of Peerless Predator tonight at the ramp before I go out for a evening/nite bite for some new stuff. http://www.fishcrazycharters.com/2009-S ... ament.html Here is the derby page. Out of Oswego the one charter captain has been killing the browns on the new R&R spoons, I believe Dave updated the site with pics etc. last week. Dave's paint is second to none I have 100's of his blades and tons of spoons. I did good on the glow backs last August out of Olcott.

We are staying in Youngstown tonight, change of plans from our usual spot of Olcott, where should we get our licenses in the morning and what ramp should we use? Thanks.

R&R and Peerless Predator teamed up to offer a new line of slim profile and colorado blades and spoons, I got my hands on some early ones, they are awesome. check them out. http://www.mytacklebox.com/slimprofilecart.html

My buddy has a 20 ft Keywest with a 150 yamaha 2 stroke for sale if anyone is interested let me know think it's an 02. It's a nice rig, very open he has it set up Erie and Ontario trolling. Pm me -
I used 30 pound Maxima mono last year on my rigger setups and didn't collect any fleas, plus the line is awesome, I use 10 for walleye and browns best out there IMO.

I pretty much only walleye fish ono Erie with only 2-3 trips a year to lk O per year. I prefer Offshore boards and the other poster is right Franks Great Outdoors is the cheapest. Do yourself the favor and spend the extra cash on the upgrades releases so you don't risk loosing the board regardless what type of line you use. For the front you want the OR-18 snapper release and for the back you want the OR-16 release with the little nipple in the middle when setting the release the front ones snaps down at you NOT back and on the back release put the line BEHIND the nipple. A 30 inch steelie smoking 100 ft of line cannot cause the board to come off even if it goes underwater using these releases if set correctly and you'll never waste fishing time turning around to get a popped board. hope this helps.

I'm making the trip from Ohio (cleveland) May 9th for some spring trout and salmon action out of Olcott I was up in August and did pretty good. I have never fished the spring bite.....question is...are the fleas a problem? I ask because I left my Power Pro dipsy setups I use for Erie Steelhead and Walleye at home due to them being bad in summer last August can I get away with running them in the the spring or should I just stick with the wire set up? Also. Should I leave my Stinger Scorpian size spoons at home? I have TONS of them because they are the bread and butter size for Eyes on Erie or would they be a waste of time up there. I would image they would get bent to you know what and the hooks are sort of small. Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

We caught some Kings on R&R pearl glow backed spoons last trip up to lake O.

Dipsy Rod Holders
K Gonefishin replied to Epic Sportfishing's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Dennis at Cisco is great the other half of the company (Jim) passed away and they were in the midst of moving to a larger shop. It's a transition period for Cisco but they are alive and well, just busy expecially with all the shows going on, if you PM me I can put you in direct touch with them as I work with them on some stuff great rod holders, the BEST PERIOD!!! -
My vote goes to Cisco as well, hell my boat is on there website. I've used them all and Cisco's are by far the best out there, nothing to wear out and infinate adjustability, countless way to mount them as well. There riggers are sweet too, heavy but sweet, very rock solid and strong motors.

I use the tan rubber bands (same ones guys use on big boards) set the dispey where you want it half hitch a rubber band to the wire then to the reel's handle, the rubber band will stretch but not break when surging, works great for me but playing with the rubber bands gets old when your changing up set ups as often as I like to. I just might try the release, I have a ton of the black ones that come on offshore boards because I swap them out.

The Amish Outfitter big boards are the standard on Lake Erie as well as the trolling bags. You will not find better big boards anywhere or bags for that matter. Don't waste your time and money on anything else.

When do you guys start trolling for kings?

Landshark Crosses the Border- pics
K Gonefishin replied to Landshark's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Great story and thanks for sharing. I'm from the land of big walleye too on Erie and we get a killer fall day and night bite but next year I want to go up there and go after the true hogs over 12. We get big fish but 8-10 are good but not like up there. Cool and Congrats on the win. -

worm harness mono or fireline???
K Gonefishin replied to BP Swing's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
The standard on Lake Erie is to run either 15 or 20 pound Seaguar Carbon Pro or Invisx, 4-6 ft depending on your preference, these rigs are tied up to run single blades like colorado's, large willows, or indiana's and can be run off inline weights and bottom bouncers. For spinner rigs that are for double willow harneses most guys use 30 or 40 pound Flourcarbon line in the same brand or Siglon line these are tied short 10-12 inches and we run them with your standard dispey and jet diver leaders. For Double Willow's or singles to run on dipsey's I use 30 pound Fireline in smoke or crystal. Smoke is proven itself over the past few year but the crystla is taking fish as well. I store these in the tube containers so when you pull them out they are limp and not all kinked up. The fireline will hold up to random steelies much better if you run into them. Vanish is garbage throw it away, it's junk regardless of what pound test or what knot you use Berkley should take it off the market. Berkley 100% flouro in the gold package is good stuff as well, I've used it in 20 with great success. I will not run anything except Seaguar, Siglon or the Berkely 100% flouro and never any lighter than 15 pound test. I use plastic quick change clevis's only on both types of rigs. Hope this helps. I've battled many large trophy size Erie walleye fun fishing and in tournaments and I've never been let down by these said lines structure fishing with boucert to dispey fishing on Erie. -
Broadband Sounder
K Gonefishin replied to Gray Fox's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I'm a big fan of large screen Lowrance units, alot of my friends have the 113HD unit and I have the 38HD unit, they are a very nice fishfinder with alot of power, I have a shoot thru hull ducer and can mark big bait balls and fish when on plane, in shallow water (under 50ft) I can mark fish at over 35mph. A friend installed a Broadband Sounder unit on his rig and he says it's like watching a high definition fishfinder, no clutter, you can mark bait much clear and fish that are stuck to the bottom show up better without zooming, he thinks they are worth the money I think I'm going to buy one next spring.
