I felt it in Central New York near Turning Stone Casino.

I'll second US Captains Training. I took the class in Rochester with Neil Smith.

Try to find Black Cherries the mountains in September. There's some just East of Beaver River Station and I have seen the sign in this area. A friend of mine says Moose River Plains has them also.

If you really want a bear, forget the mountains and find a farmer with corn in St. Lawrence, Clinton, or Franklin counties. During the early season they are feeding heavily on the milky corn.

She doesn't need a fishing license if she's just going along for a boat ride however a Resident One-day fishing license is only $5 so it might be worth it.

Penn 320LD (Leverdrags) typically retail for $140. Cabelas has them listed here for $139.99 http://www.cabelas.com/conventional-penn-levelwind-lever-drag-reels-1.shtml I have two of these reels and like them a lot, super smooth drags. Wish I could swing getting two more.

Matt, glad to hear that the wire worked out for you. Can you post that pic you sent me on the phone? Guys like pics in reports. -
Excellent job Andy!

Nice job Chris. RJ will remember it for a while I'm sure. Surprisingly, same thing happened to me. Saturday, Chris called me to see how we did out of Fair Haven at 2:00 when my guys were heading to the weigh-in. Then somehow, his box got a little bigger by the time he weighed in... Hmm, darn Engineers can't count right. (For those who don't know Chris, I am in no way implying foul play)

Happy Birthday man, hope you have a good one.

I've got a 95 and like it a lot. Same motor I believe too. I've got about that many hour on it this season. My boat has probably 1500 to 1600 hours on the motor. Had it running 32+ mph on the GPS with 4 people on board last weekend messing around with Muskybob when we were heading out fishing. I don't usually run it like that though. She'll cruise at 22-23 mph good though. I looked at the 225 Outrage before I got the 223 Rage. The 225 hard top does not leave too much head room (5'10" I think). If you're any taller than 5'8", you'll appreciate the canvas top which is higher. My boat rides surprisingly well in rougher water. It wandered real bad. I put the Super Fin Marine Twin Fin on the outdrive this Spring and it has barely any wander now. Oh yeah, that 32mph was with the super fin installed. Fuel economy... Spring browns with a 3/4 mile or so run across the bay both ways and trolling out the chute for 8 hours...4 or 5 days on about 20 gallons (half tank). Now with running out a couple/few miles and back, it's about 12 gallons a day. For the Atomik Challenge, I ran from Port Bay to Fair Haven Friday night, fished out of FH Saturday, returned to FH and dropped the crew off and ran back to Port Bay. This used about 25 gallons. Trailering... Make sure the brakes work. I guess it is about 4500 to 5000 pounds for the whole rig. I pull it with a 2005 Dodge Dakota and it does good. This truck is rated to 7400 pounds but I feel this is the most I would ever like to tow with this truck. I can do 65mph down the Thruway with cruise and no reason to go faster. I hope it has an electric winch for that bunk trailer... Fishing... I'm running 4 riggers and 4 dipsy's if I have enough people without problems. I did experience some tangles while setting lines down in the past because of the bad wandering so I would stand the dipsy's up so I set the rigger lines under them. The lure on the boom rigger would catch the dipsy line. Since I got the Fin, I don't have to do that anymore unless the current is pulling them bad. In the past, I ran a trolling bag or two, this year either none or one if I really need to slow down. 4 people fit good, 5 is tight and 6 is fairly cramped.

Flasher/Fly Terminal Tackle and Rigging?
Broadhorizons replied to MarkNY's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I change out all my spin doctors to the corkscrew snap swivels. All my corkscrew snap swivels I use are Bechold brand. Got them at Gander Mountain. Gander in Cicero also has the Dreamweaver corkscrew snap swivels also. Their selection and stock of trolling gear is crap now though and has been for a while. -

Why, do you think your knife from earlier this spring washed up in the parking lot?? Right length, no chain or numbers. -
I've noticed a few days that if I was trolling across the current, the diver appears to be crossing behind the boat. I pulled the diver to check the setting and it was correct. Probably your downrigger cables are pulling the same way. All my gear was still running clean so I don't sweat it too much. The only way that the diver rod would come out of the holder is if you turn too tight to that side and the diver pulls the rod straight out by pointing the rod tip at the diver. I put the rod holder up one notch when I turn that tight.

"Other than fishing" entertainment.
Broadhorizons replied to Mickey Finn's topic in Open Lake Discussion
We like the Thousand Island Winery, they have several weekend festivals planned. We also like Lake Placid for the lake tour and Whiteface for the gondola ride at the ski slope and the Veterans Memorial Highway. There's a nice little place in Keene for lunch. As for museums, the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake is the "history" of the Adks and the Wild Center in Tupper Lake is the "science" of the Adks. I prefer the Wild Center. We've also done a seaplane ride with Payne's in Inlet. There's also the option of the Norridgewock Wilderness tour boat to Beaver River Station. http://www.beaverriver.com/tour%20boat.htm I personally haven't done this because I have friends that have a camp in Beaver River Station and we just take the boat taxi or our own boat across the reservoir. Beaver River Station is a unique place because of it's accessibility restrictions (no roads to it). Have fun and let us know what you chose. -

It was nice seeing all of you guys this weekend, Bob, Todd, and Mike. Vic, did you lose a small knife out of your truck Sunday? One of the guys that fished with me found it in the parking lot where we parked at the end of the day. -
Looking for Deck chairs (2)
Broadhorizons replied to Irish Knots's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Actually the coolers and cushions weren't too bad. Maybe check out the cooler seats with the back also. If you get the Wise chairs, you will still have a cooler or two kicking around the deck. The chairs with the armrests are comfortable though. -

I know I've seen them at either West Marine or Boat Works in Syracuse. Can't remember which one though. The ones on the Dapper Dan are very comfortable as Tim states. -
downrigger ball connection question
Broadhorizons replied to BP Swing's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I personally use the Cannon termination but a lot of guys use the wire knot for their downriggers also. -
Was it your team that was asking for fish at the weigh-in Sunday? The guy said they DQ'd Saturday for being late.
-
I have the Platinum Plus, I believe it is a combination of both that you listed.

Do you know what the model and weight of the rods are? -
I'm looking for a set of end caps and screws for Traxstech tracks. One took a swim earlier this year when I was setting the boat up and I haven't been able to find any locally. PM if you have anything. Thanks, Andy
