I don't know Scott but I know he was speaking from experience and doesn't own you anything and definitely isn't sticking out his chest at your expense. He has made his mark and isn't trying to improve it by trashing you. Sure you can run charters...and more power to you. I'm not old and I'm not young but I've been at this game a loooong time. All information is good....even the "bad" information doing anything that might restrict your ability to get information is foolish. Just take it in. I don't know you and I'm not for or against you. I get a LOT of information by staying neutral. Do I dislike certain people, captains etc. Sure. But I keep that to myself and the older I get the more I let it go anyway.

From an engineering perspective. When the technology and manufacturing reliability becomes better and more repeatable the factor of safety can go down. That saves money. Its the same product just not as overbuilt. As far as line goes they are all pushing thinner is better so it all goes hand in hand. Bottom line you always have to evaluate your gear and tactics. Experience is good but if you keep your brain stubbornly stuck in a mindset from 20 yrs ago you may have problems Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Assuming your fishing the main lake, for safety sake watch out for debris in the lake. I'd run slower than you might normally go. Theres a lot of big stuff washed out into open water with the flood Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Stren Vanish....interesting. I have a friend who learned the hard way. We joke about his experiment with stren Vanish...….It makes your fish "vanish" is the line I came up with for him. he thought it was great....4 times the line for the same price. I told him he'd regret it. He did. In all seriousness and to try to help you. I run 30# leader on my clean bait heads. 40# on my bait heads with twinkies. 20# with spoon lines or 15# with spoon lines if its mixed fishing (not just salmon) and a softer rod. As you mentioned in one of your posts, the only reason to use fluoro is its invisible. So take advantage of that and beef up! River fishing - Drennan has a harder surface than the seguar. I caught 4 kings on 8# Drennan trolling with brown trout gear this spring . -

Its either your knots, the particular brand/type of flourocarbon or combination of how hard you fight the fish and how heavy your rod is. I use seguar blue label fluoro when > 10# and i can count one hand the number of fish i have broken off in the last 10 yrs in the lake including guests i bring out. Look into better knots, wet the knot before you cinch it down. Check the leader periodically for knicks and if you gave it a good beating with a few fish consider retying the knots. Last year (non flood year) I noticed more green water in the eastern bay than I've seen in looong time. I had separately heard zebra mussles were down or at least had reached some sort of equilibrium. I can't remember where I heard that but it had some legitimacy behind it wherever I heard it. Who knows. High water for sure is going to influence water clarity.

Was the video by greg amiel by chance? When i was at the lotsa salmon school 2 years ago it seemed like he did this. I went to slide divers since i fish solo a lot but you make a good point about having dipsy's and using them. I have my share of dipsy's Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Best track system for rod holders
Fat Trout replied to Wrist_therapy74's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I really like the Cisco. End stops are integral set screws and not a plastic end piece. Ends of track are nicely rounded and not square cut. My fishmaster came with bunch of traxstech or berts. I put Cisco across the back and it made me almost want to replace the other stuff. I just dont like the plastic end caps or the squared cut ends. Im fairly level headed but you jumped in quick for the low baller guy and now are all for the let the guy sell his boat camp. How about lets ALL stay out of it. The low baller shoulda had a PM conversation....we all shoulda stayed out of it...end of story. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Not the answer you probably want but i ignore everything surface related on my fishhawk. As long as the probe matches up close enough on speed /temp with my FF when checked close to the surface im happy enough. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Looking for w.o.t for 1982 sportcraft 25ft
Fat Trout replied to SALMONBOY35's topic in This Old Boat
The 25 is a big boat and a 5.7 is 250 hp if i recall correctly. I had a 232 sportcraft with a soft top and a 5.7. top end was 29 or 30 at WOT but only if flat calm. Im not sure if you have a hard top but thats a bigger boat than the 232 and 30+ yrs old it may be carrying more extra weight in water soaked decking /transom or whatever and the engine might not be as strong as it once was. Also, my current and prior fish hawk top speeds both read high compared to gps. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

I won't say your wrong with your assessment.... I'll only throw out there that NADA doesnt account for the current popularity of this model and the lack of used inventory. Since last year ive seen a bunch of WTB posts for FM 196's. I bought a new one....in part because i didnt want to pay as much for used as people were getting. Im not trying to change your mind.....but i do understand where he is coming from. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
