I googled some combination of starcraft or starweld honor warranty and found a better business bureau page for complaints with Sylvan marine for Starweld and starcraft boats. Sylvan marine responded to each one and of particular interest was the second one where the sylvan marine person explained the winter repair season and boating repair cycle as well as their large backlog at that particular time. I would suggest reading it and also filing a complaint with the BBB perhaps under this same area as it seems sylvan marine is at least responding to these. I thought smokercraft was the parent company, perhaps it is sylvan marine I'm no expert here. I just saw complaints for starweld and starcraft responded to by sylvan marine. I hope this helps. Unfortunately if their 2018/2019 winter "repair season" is anything like what was described in 2017 I'd say the outlook for April return is poor. https://www.bbb.org/us/in/new-paris/profile/marine-sales-and-service/sylvan-marine-0352-10019943/complaints

50/50 on bailing for the Salmon school. Damn weather! That's the risk you take this time of year though. I'll still be in if the weather will let me drive up Friday see the show and catch the salmon school until at least noon before I bail and can drive back.

I have a 4x4 elk rack in my attic. I should probably do something with it before the mice do Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Lol...yup. i have a hotel for fri and sat. But only because my wife was supposed to go. I wanted to bail on the one night I really wanted to avoid spending $ on 2 nights so i could waste it on more gear. Praying to the weather gods now..... Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I went with the digitrolls specifically because of the soft stop coming up and the ability to change the down speed between 1 to 5 (slowest to fastest). I love them but they admittedly are really expensive. A lot of people like the scotties. Personally I had 10a's a while back and like the power down. However I don't want to power down at light speed and rip the flasher off of the release. unfortunately with the cannon's (except for the digitrolls where you can vary speed) I thinkt he up/down speed is ridiculous. It creates problems. I only wish my digitrolls would let me vary the up speed on the "auto up" button. If they had just upped the speed of the 10a's perhaps 2x that would have been great. Instead they went nuts IMO.

True slidediver dive chart
Fat Trout replied to Gill-T's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I started running a smart troll last year but had limited run time as i had to have part of it replaced. I was running the slide diver with the ultimate ring....but normal weight. With wire line and a 3.5 setting on the slide diver i was getting close to 2:1 down to 80'. From what i saw Im thinking the normal slide diver normal ring and weight would be 3:1 Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Realistically, any newer 196's will have 150 or better on it. That said, some of the older ones (seems like 2015 and earlier) were packaged with 115's. dipiazza22 gives you a good data point here as does Fishmaster 196. If you can find a good used one a little older and with a 115 it might be a pretty good deal. If you run with 2 guys most of the time don't be afraid. Even if you run more guys consider how few days on Lake O we get to run WOT anyway. If dipiazza22 is getting 33 on top end and it still jumps pretty good at the start I think thats fine for an older used boat. I wouldn't buy a newer one like that if only for the resale issue. I usually only run mid throttle @ +/- 25 mph myself. My 196 running 150 yamaha with 3 people loaded will do over 40. It all depends on what you want. -

First Timer Looking for Some Advice
Fat Trout replied to parisfisherman's topic in Tackle and Techniques
My opinion....6 mag dipsys would be suicide. Get 2 riggers, labor day fish are likely to be tight to the bottom. Run 2 dipsys and 2 riggers. Perhaps a copper but in truth the crowd you are fishing in will dictate what u can run for long long lines. Labor day crowds tend to be tight. For the riggers, manuals work fine but are just a pain to keep pulling up. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I fish solo a lot and even when i dont, most fish are netted along side with the boat slowed to idle and the rigger boom swept back. Granted im fishing an 18' aluminum. Head first, quick swipe witha big net....and heres the key....pull the the net back and let the pressure off the rod so the fish drops into the bag. Then grab the hoop and up in the boat. I only net off the stern with someone experienced so they dont drop the net into the prop. This year ill be running a kicker so that will let me net off the stern on the non kicker side. must have been a quick sale, couldn't find it unfortunately

Sorry to hear your problems. I had an 18pro that i fished for 4 seasons. I thought it was great. Screws were a little short on the side storage panel hinges....my only real complaint. I knew before buying the gunnels weren't strong enough for riggers except back by the transom. Great price tho. Sold it last year and bought the starcraft fishmaster i originally wanted but that switch was for size. Anyway i caught a lot of fish on that boat and I hope they work it out for you with yours. I really liked the product i had but i accepted that the lower cost came with a price in some quality and finish. Leaks and assembly issues do stink though and fortunately i didnt have that problem. Good luck! I'm running a Yamaha 150 and it has been great. While it hurts now you'll feel better in the long run. I'm sure the Lund you have is a champ. Great boats and the older ones were the better ones from what I understand! It just needs a trustworthy motor to push.
-
If its not reliable I don't want anything to do with it on Lake O. A new motor or new-er good running motor otherwise you are just going to be someone else's problem when you expect a tow. a 20 year old known to be problematic motor with issues that can't be solved and mechanics that won't touch it!?. I can't run fast enough. On this lake, better to have a small reliable boat with small HP than a large POS with a bigger HP POS.
