Looking to purchase a new finder/GPS combo this year and asking you guys with newer units to give your opinions. What unit do you suggest primarily for trolling and where to purchase for the best price? Also what do you think about shoot thru hull transducers? Thanks in advance.

Where do you stay in the keys?. Do you guys rent a house? I love fishing in Islamorada and I'm looking for some place to stay and friendly for the kids too.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9/12 Time on Water:7-10am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1-3 rollers Surface Temp: very cold Location: Ginna LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:king and brown Hot Lure: j-plug Trolling Speed: 2-2.3 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 25 ft Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Was waiting for my neighbor to send me some pics of his boy with his first trout but he's had trouble uploading them. Anyway shot out early to 150 and water and picture was ice cold. Forgot the jays at home so went in to get them and dropped first line after 7am in 25 ft. Wasn't too confident with the lake conditions until a decent brown took a bloody nose with a walleye board. No planers yet. The boy didn't stop talking about that fish all day with his friends. Would have been happy just with that fish until we smack into 40-42" male a half hour later. That was a nice surprise but wished the fish had a little more spunk in him. Was dark and very toothy. He hit a glow ladderback 150 behind the boat. Fog bank rolled in and pulled the lines at 10am. (close to Ginna)

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9/5 & 9/7 Time on Water:2hours on Sat. and 4hours on Mon. Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location:off Ginna LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits:11 Total Boated:7 Species Breakdown:3 kings, 1 brown, 2 steelhead, 1 coho Hot Lure: glow metallic frog, spinner/atomik flies Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 100-200 Lure Depth: 35-80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== The action wasn't fast and furious but a steady pick both days. Saturday we only fished for only two hours and started with a 41" female king. My scale broke so I can only guess. We also picked up a decent brown and a small steelie. Most action all weekend came in around 120ft. Monday the screen didn't look as good as Saturday but here and there marks was the rule. We ended up with a couple of 10-15lbs kings , a small coho and steelie. Definitely the hot lure was the mettallic frog. We also lost a good one on a wire diver with a old linecounter reel. The drag locked up and spinny/fly were gone. Another decent one was lost at the back of the boat when the fished clipped the leader to the spinny. Note to self: Buy more tackle. Any guess on what 41" female filled with eggs weighs? I haven't caught enough of them to know.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/3 Time on Water:5-8PM Weather/Temp:rolly water Wind Speed/Direction:NE>SW Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: Location:Ginna to Pultneyville LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:42ndspoon & E-chip/ Mirage fly Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.5-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 170-220 Lure Depth: 55-90 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Headed out with a decent chop out of the NE and wind switch abruptly out of the SW with a nice washing machine effect. Very little on the screen and it was a slow start. Interestingly, all the action was on the riggers compared to two nights ago. Rigger fired with a screamer and after a newbie fought the fish for 10 minutes, all of the sudden the weight was gone but still had some action on it. Long story short the weight increased again and finally pulled up the rig. Result was about 10lbs of weed and a shaker. After some brainstorming we figured the inital screamer shook off on the slider and the shaker was on the whole time and somehow picked up up the kelp in 200ft of water. Go figure. Anyway had a couple knock offs and finally managed a nice steel. Full moon is out now so hopefully it won't slow down the bite.

Sandy 7-28 evening.
bowbender replied to Tank's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Tank, Do you have your riggers on a gimbal mount? The reason I ask is I broke a plastic gunnel rodholder last night with a rigger in it for the first time. I was going to replace it anyway with an SS one but I was wondering by the looks of your picture how your Scottys work with a gimbal. Thanks. -

bowbender replied to woody 184's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Woody, Do you have a blue/white Wellcraft? If so, you passed by me in a 20' white Campion and I can verify that you were getting into them. You hooked up and I said to my dad that wasn't cool. We got into a lull for awile but about 10 min after passing you by we had another knock off. For the first time out we manged our first king so it was a successful trip. What did you have your wires out to? Those flies were the worst too. I have one of those Therma cells, I wonder if they have any effect on the flies. -

Chris, Finally got out on the water for the first time last night. It was more figuring out than fishing last night but did manage the 1st king on the boat. It was more equipment malfunction than anything but we're slowing getting there and was happy my Dad got the first king and released for another day. As far as the flies go, my Dad joked about dressing like the Gordon's fisherman. Flies would have a tough time biting through the rubber boots and you could drop a few lbs. sweating in the rubber suit at the same time. They were horrible anyway you slice it, even if they didn't bite you. Btw, how long are you leads between the spinny and dipsey? Give me a call sometime. John -
I'm just getting the rods ready for the year so with the fleas a problem now, what would you suggest to spool on for the rigger rods? Any suggestions? Thanks
-
Thanks for all the info. but I have to ask what's the need for the surface transducer? I really hate to drill a few more holes in the boat when I'm really looking for the breaks and down speed anyway.

I plan on buying a new Fishhawk soon so I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the new system? Or if you boutht one would you raher have the depthraider now? Thanks for any replies.

Anyone recommend someone to paint the bottom of your boat? Thanks
-
Good to know, I see they have other colors to choose from too. So you just left it gray and didn't paint over it? The other issue is that I will be trailering the boat so is this stuff tough as nails? Again, thanks for the input. I'm stating with a newer boat so I want to get it right the first time.
-
Yes its light gray. Did you roll it or spray?
-
Gambler, thanks for the reply. I should take some pictures to verify. I assumed it was the primer becuse it is a flat gray and very smooth. Did you roll that barrier coat on or spray? And did you put on the anti-fouling paint over the barrier too. Thanks again.
-
I bought a two year old boat with bottom paint. I will be trailering the boat so I'd rather not have the antifouling paint again. The deal is all of the bottom paint came off with soy strip and so did some of the primer coat. The problem is getting the remainder of the primer off. I would say there's probably 75% left and its a thin coat. What would be the best suggestion to remove the rest obviously, I'm trying to get it back to the original gelcoat or at least get to where I can have it painted with a non anti fouling paint. Thank you for any advice you may have. Also if I can't get the primer off without ruining the gelcoat what kind of paint would be suggested? As you can see I'm a novice when it comes to paint/gelcoat issues. Thanks in advace for any suggestions.

Hank, Do they sell the reciever unit seperately?
