Braddocks Browns 11/9
Billy Bones replied to Jammer's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Exactly the same fish, the males do color for spawning but not a different species or strain. They're all brown trout. Billy Bones -

New Fisherman to erea
Billy Bones replied to dspinning's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Give it a few weeks and you will be able to catch some of the Kings when they start their spawning run. There's always shore fishing available, just don't know much about it. Check with your local tackle store, sure that they would be able to point you in the right direction. I'm not from your area, but I fish the Eastern Basin of Lake Ontario all summer. You don't need $ 15,000 to enjoy fishing, key word is enjoy!! Billy Bones -
Got out of Stony Creek on Tuesday with No. 2 Grandson Brenden. Launched at 11 AM and stayed out until 5 PM. Ended up with 6 boated out of 9 hits. 145 to 175 FOW riggers at 95 to 110 feet. Got two mature Kings and four Rainbows off sliders. Kings were 18 and 22 lbs., Rainbows were 5 to 8 lbs. Lure that worked on the Kings was NK Mags black with purple tape and a white underside. Rainbows taken on NK Watermelon. Best screen in 155 FOW. Brenden caught his first King (18 lbs.), for the first 5 minutes of the fight, he just had a stunned look on his face. Wasn't sure whether he was playing the fish or the fish was playing him. He would gain 20 feet of line, only to lose 50 feet. With a little coaching from his old Grandpa he settled down and did a great job. He's Hooked, Wants More!! Fantastic day spent with a great kid. Will be back at it on Tuesday to Thursday. Might try Oswego or Fair Haven (any suggestions)? I am a Canadian, what are the weather channels down by Oswego? Billy Bones

Was out yesterday, Friday. West and South of the green can, trolled over to toward Pchyche Shoal. Picked up two salmon 10 to 12 lb. and three small lakers. All fish hugging the bottom. Got the Salmon off spin doctors and flies, Lakers came off NK 28 Watermelon. Total, 7 hits, 5 boated. Sorry no pics, was alone. Fleas were bad, respooled a couple of rods with 20 lb. flea flicker line by Cortland. This stuff works well, just a gum ball size glob at the knot. Billy Bones

kings heading east

Nice fish Todd will have to get together on my next trip down. Billy Bones -
Hey Todd don't know if you sent your phone number via PM. Was also out on Wednesday, went east from the launch. I have an 18 foot beige coloured Starcraft with a brown top and Cannons mounted on a trolling board, maybe you saw me out there. Stayed in 8 to 15 feet of water, went 7 for 10, 5 Browns, 1 Coho, and what I think was a very small Atlantic. No size, biggest was a 5 lb. brown. Got them all off some old Marathon (frog coloured spoons) I used to use in Lake Michigan years ago. The ones with a couple of rattlers at the back. Will be down again in a couple of weeks, maybe we can get together then. Went out to deeper water to see if I could locate some lakers, marked some fish, but no takers. You were right about the ramp at Mexico, easy in and out. Thanks for the info. Billy Bones from Ottawa

Hey Guys Been lurking and gleaning info off the board for the past few weeks. Have decided to make a trip and get in on the fun. Will be down Wednesday to Friday of next week and launch out of Mexico Bay, the ramp just east of Hickory Grove. Is there a launch fee there? Will also need a non-resident license, is there a place to pick one up in that area? Will be staying in Pulaski, so if there is a place that carries licenses there, it would be great. I used to fish salmon and trout out of Waukegan IL years ago, and decided to get back into it, since I now have more time. This is a recon trip for me, just recently retired and will be alone on this trip. If anyone wants to join me, send a PM. I have an 18 foot Starcraft (nice big water boat) Planning to spend a lot of time down there this summer. Thanks Billy Bones

If the Ontario Government would get their heads out from up their a$$, they might come to realize the revenue generated by sport fisherman. Also the facilities for launching boats on the North shore is ridiculous. I have fished both the north shore from Darlington to Wellington, and the south shore from Henderson to Oswego. The facilities on the south shore are second to non, love the ramp at Oswego. The north shore facilities are a joke. Would rather fish the south shore anytime over the north shore, but with the hassle crossing the border in this day and age, it's just not worth it. Have been stopped by Canadian customs and had my boat searched 3 out of 4 times. Guess they think I am some sort of smuggler. Sorry about the venting, but this is a touchy topic and one that just makes me do a slow burn. Billy Bones
