Wanted WTB:9.9-15HP long shaft
rolmops replied to Reelfanatic's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I talked to the guy and he is willing to sell, he wants $850. In my opinion he wants about $400 too much. -

83khz or 200khz?
rolmops replied to adnanfarooq1977's topic in Ontario, CA Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (North Shore)
I may be the only one around here, but my preference is the Sitex SVS 650. They are right up there with the Furuno 625 but with better graphics. They are in the $500/$600 range and are as good as the $800 Furuno. As for service, After using it for 3 years ,mine had a power draw after it was turned off (it worked fine) I send it back and they just replaced all the guts and the screen for the normal $95 service cost that they charge for out of warranty gear. -

Try to get as close to the warm water outlet of the power plant as legally possible and start casting into the forbidden zone with a 2 or 3 ounce cast master. -

trolling and the current?
rolmops replied to hawkeye625's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The main currents in the lake are from west to east. Running a north to south troll often solves the current situation. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
When they had the health trouble thing they moved out of their little factory and then they started again in the basement of their house. But this is also second hand info.

sorry Tim, you are right. That was a senior moment on my end Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

olcot or Wilson
rolmops replied to rhoyt's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Fishing is much the same, service in Olcot is probably a little better for trailer based boats. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
I don't know really. They were at the lotsa meet this winter and later I bought some of their spoons at field&stream, but something smells bad. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Its rearing to go. But seriously, there probably is a small leak in the fuel line which only opens up every so often and produces a lean mixture for a few seconds. I would check all the hose connections and the fasteners on the carburetor, also the ones that connect the carb to the block.

Would you be interested in an electric start, remote control ,charger, longshaft 1979 Johnson that comes of a 19 foot Islander and pushes that Islander at 6mph? -
I presume that it does this while you are trolling. If so,can you run it at a slightly higher rpm? Also, it is always a good idea to run the kicker at 2000 rpm for a bit to "clean out the system". I usually do this at the end of my fishing day just to make sure that there is no carbon buildup in the wrong places.

You can use the the front batteries, just make sure that you change from serial to parallel because most downriggers are 12 volt.

On The Fritz (Rochester)
rolmops replied to Fly n Fish's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Same story here. We went out around 2.30 pm to look for browns. what we found was a scum line in 40 feet of water about a quarter mile off shore in front of I-bay. One side was 45 degrees ,the other 39. On the outside there was a strong current going east at 25 foot down. we went 3.2 gps and 1.3 fishhawk east bound. We tried to go in a bit and that cost me a 12 pound atommik torpedo (i know that's stupid) So I'll need another one. But looking at the positive side, the weather was great and the fish did not bother us. Does that guy from the finger lakes still make 12 pound torpedoes? Cornelis. -
Owasco Lake has not been stocked for a while now. Quite frankly, walleye fishing in Owasco lake is a waste of time. The last time it was stocked was in 2006.

Stolen 9.9 Mercury 4-stroke from Boat Doctors in Olcott 4/24/15
rolmops replied to Gill-T's topic in Open Lake Discussion
My apologies for seeming callous, but the sad fact is that what happened to you ,repeats itself over and over again every summer and unless we protect our boats one way or another we will get robbed sooner or later. The only alternative is removing everything that we can remove. For the police this is just another petty theft and they will not make too much of an effort to get your engine back. -
Stolen 9.9 Mercury 4-stroke from Boat Doctors in Olcott 4/24/15
rolmops replied to Gill-T's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The only way to prevent this,is by not leaving anything of value. It is not that the world around us has changed, we just were lulled into thinking it has. Every time I go fishing out of the east end it blows my mind to see all the electronic gear left on the boats.Heck I take my removable electronic gear off the boat even when it is parked next to my house. -
If you have foam in the bottom, the ice may have damaged a lot of the cells, specially if it is an older boat. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Maybe. There is a fuel filter,a water separator (there should be) and a fuel pump in between the tank and the carbs.
-
If it is an aluminum tank, pour a gallon or 2 of lacker thinner into the tank and take it for a ride on a bumpy road for say half an hour. then, add a few gallons of fuel repeat the ride and drain the tank. that should have loosened up most of the junk in there. When boating, do not use ethanol laced fuel because the ethanol will loosen whatever dirt is in the tank and you may get carburetor trouble. If it is a fiberglass tank do not use ethanol fuel or lacker thinner. Both will dissolve the glue used with fiberglass and the tank may collapse.

You completely ignore the fact that 90 feet below the surface there is very often a current which may make your lure run at 5mph or lay dead in the water, and when a lure is pulled 10 or 20 feet behind a downrigger ball. It will not drop and significantly change its depth.
