  1. The second fishfinder was her side of the boat. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. It seems that the guy is hugging his pet
  3. You had better start going to the gym and work on strengthening the wind back up muscles.
  4. Stay away from Carlisle tires, but this wear may be caused by the axle sitting upside down or the tires being car tires and not "ST" special trailer tires
  5. It might be time to look for a different trailer. There are legal problems with this setup. If the trailer is rated at 5400 pounds you cannot legally overload it. Transferring weight to the hitch may cause a conflict with the gross vehicle weight limits. It seems like a good way to loose all insurance coverage in case of an accident. My advice is to talk to your local triple A and find out about the legality of your trailer plans.
  6. Do you have any idea how many feet the ramp extends under water?
  7. Since when does logic work on wives?
  8. I use both 20 and 30 pound. As I mentioned before there is very little difference as far as depth is concerned. For Example :60 foot down with 30# is 220 foot out, with 20# I start bumping the ground at 220 as well. I used 60 because that was where the thermocline hit the bottom during a tournament last year.
  9. That's alright. Just to make it a bit more complicated I think you will agree that 30# test is 50% stronger than 20# test, while 20 #test is 33.3% weaker than 30# test.
  10. It hardly makes any difference at all. What you gain in smaller diameter you loose in you the lesser weight. On another note,I would not use the big rings with the lighter wire, because 20 pound only has about 60% the strength of 30 pound and the combination of big ring and big fish can be quite dramatic. I use twenty pound test on the east end because it is mostly for browns and thirty pound test for the big west end slobs.
  11. Not only do you have good friends, you also have an Islander, that makes you double blessed.
  12. The oil is usually the same if the numbers are the same. The only difference is the grade for engines with electronic shifting (Johnson/Evinrude 1968 to 1971). You can just go to Walmart and buy their home brand lower unit oil (made by Pennzoil). It is not a good idea to leave the lower unit empty all winter. Think of it as a gearbox, you do not want rust to start forming on your gears. Also, you must replace the small hard washer seals because they are only one time use.
  13. Just before ice out ,the cabin fever is worst.
  14. I use accudepth 57s for all my reel counter needs and I love them. One drawback is the location of the reset button on the counter. It happens to me very often that I accidently touch the reset button, but it me be because of the abnormal large size of my hands (I wear 4xl gloves)
  15. Field and stream in Rochester,NY stocks and sells them.
  16. wow, see those scars on its side? Did you snag it?
  17. This Sunday I was fishing under the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco. That should get you drooling.
  18. I had a 1985 75 horse merc, with the same problem. It is easily solved. Your remote control has a lever for neutral idle which doubles as a choke. If you bring that lever up before you start and then start it will work just fine. Let the engine run at medium rpm to warm it up and you should be alright. As for the engine stopping at very low rpm, mercury made those engines for racing ,not trolling. Your solution would be a smaller prop so you go slower at a slightly higher rpm. As for ethanol gas or regular gas,you will find that performancewise on this engine,it makes absolutely no difference except for paying an extra 40 cents per gallon.Just dump some seafoam carburetor cleaner/stabilizer in every third tank or so and you will do just fine, although it better for these engines to use 89 octane instead of 87. What may improve your engine performance is decarbing the engine. Buy a spray can of "seafoam" and follow the decarbing directions for 2 stroke engines. This improves compression and cleans out the carburetor during the process. There is another thing that in this cold weather is very important and that it a high quality fuel hose and pump ball. The Walmart version turns very stiff and hard in cold weather, while a high quality ball remains easily workable.
  19. And the trailer has to be inspected, or so they say. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  20. I usually go to Cape Cod in June for stripers and when my wife does not want to come along I might try to find some strippers...
  21. Thanks for reminding me of that southern wind problem there. You probably prevented me from doing something very stupid.
  22. It sure looks nice, but it has its own problems. When you go through a wave, your stern will be high on the water and sometimes it will be almost completely out of the water. With a bracket placing the kicker that far behind the transom, the wave action will cause the prop to come out of the water and the engine will start racing every time you go through a wave. In my opinion it is better to have the kicker as close to the transom as possible.
  23. NK is back in business. I bought a few of their spoons in field&stream. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. The I-Bay ramps are snow free and two docks are in. Open water is about 10 feet away from the docks. The water level seems very low,so low that the trailers might fall of the end of the ramp which means trouble. The Gennesee river ramps do have about 2 or 3 inches of snow on them but they are open and ice free, just waiting for somebody with a snow shovel and some salt.
