You cannot get the half weights in stores. You have to order them direct from Big Jon. Remember, the double keels with full weights will sink if the towing pressure is off or the tow line breaks. Another thing that is advisable is writing your address or phone number on the boards. They sometimes break off, but I know of at least one occasion that other fisherman pick them up, contact the owner and return them.

It is my progressive liberal left wing opinion that venison tastes sort of dry and gamy. I prefer mine mixed in with pork. Maybe if we protect the coyotes, they will take care of the deer problem and when the deer are down to pre human hunting population the coyote will starve and stop reproducing. Next thing you know is a balanced deer/coyote relationship. But, you will no longer see nice young lady students skinny dipping on the lake beach because they are afraid of coyotes, so maybe we should trap and sterilize the coyotes. Come to think of it, I would hate to see good pot eaten by deer or any other ruminant for that matter. I can see it now. Our local organic dairy will from now on sell strictly organic happy milk products that make you feel good. Well maybe it did happen already in the greater Ithica area. I mean the pioneers who settled the area were sadly misguided or just plain lost. They thought they were in Greece or Italy and gave their settlements names like Venice,Naples ,Scipio Center. The ones that started Syracuse were really lost. I mean they tought that the dutch were still ruling the area and made orange their favorite color! It must be that those wicked Dutchmen did not want them in Batavia. Well there were some god honest red necks who named their place Horse Heads but they too must have smoked something funny in their peace pipes. But seriously, around Cornell and Ithica college it is way smarter to go dear hunting and the best way to do that is by leaving the deer alone

horses are curious trusting animals . maybe they walked up to these hunters and the hunters got scared of these big scary creatures in the dark. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Yesterday I crawled under the tarp and into the boat. A small quartz heater and a lamp came along came along and sitting in the Captain's chair I started rigging up flies.

I visited the once yearly Lotsa meet in Niagara Falls this afternoon and had a great time. It was fun to meet some of the people who write comments in the LOU site. The overall atmosphere was friendly and upbeat. It was nice to hear Tom from A-Tom-Mik tell me that our team "Horsin Around" is really good enough to participate in the A-Tom-Mik Invitational, even though he failed to convince me. It's not that we are not good enough,it's just that we are not lucky enough.Or maybe we are just horsin' around. The partitions in the hall made for clearly defined tables. There was so much going on in the Lotsa room that it was not until the end of my stay that I went into the other room to see what there was to see and I almost ended up buying a Hoby fishing kayak with pedals instead of peddles. Then there was the horned owl and his handler. He reminded me of the one winged short toed (snake) eagle who was my pet many years ago All in all, I really enjoyed this year's happening. It better be a very good salmon catching year, I want to have an opportunity to use and loose all the flies that Tom had to offer today. May the kings shred every last one!

I have 8 Daiwa 57 LCs and for what I do ,they are all I need. With my oversized (4xxl) hands,I sometimes hit the counter and reset to 0 while letting the dipsy diver out. For charter boat needs, the expensive ones usually are the cheapest because they last much longer while in heavy use often in the hands of over excited and under experienced clients. You should see how much fishing you do and going with that knowledge you should set your requirements.

I can swim it, but not run it. The fat would keep me warm and afloat.

I have run regular 87 octane with ethanol on all my outboards for the last 15 years without ever having a problem. Just make sure that your fuel hoses are ethanol resistant (They all are since 2000) and that your tank is clean of dirt because ethanol will loosen dirt in your tank and send it to the carbs. Always top off your tank after using the boat and at the end of the season. Make sure to properly winterize. There is a problem with large tanks that are left half empty over time because of condensation in the tank, but the same problem exists with regular gasoline. I use 87 octane non ethanol gas in my 1984 mercruiser because that engine was built with regular gas in mind. What really irks me is that the only people who are pro ethanol are the corn farmers and their o so powerful lobby in Washington. Both the democrats and the republicans have tried to stop this heavily subsidized boondoggle. Ethanol is way more expensive than gasoline and yet the farmers lobby shoves it down our throats. It drives up the food prices. The time has come to stop the ethanol subsidies and use corn what it was intended for namely sour mash whisky!

This morning listening to the radio,I heard about a different and effective way to catch and release deep caught fish. Some scientists studied the survival rate of deep caught fish by tagging and releasing. Some were released at the surface while others were sent back down fast to the depth they were caught at.A few cages with the fish that were sent deep down were hauled back up after 2 days and although it was expected to find dead fish, the fish had survived and did well. Using simple methods such as weighted down milk crates with an opening mechanism were then tried to send the fish down fast and release them deep down. Surface released fish had a low survival rate even when the air bladder was emptied out. The deep releases were highly succesful. The scientists mentioned that they worked closely together with sports fisherman while doing their project and lots of input from these fishermen caused the project to be considered a succes. ( I heard it on NPR)
