  1. see forellen (brown trout)
  2. There is Fishing and Phishing. Now there is Prophecy and Phrophecy. Vote tomorrow. (or is it phote?)
  3. It always was my understanding that 15-40 is for diesel engines and not for gas engines. Can a Diesel Mechanic (Nick) please explain to me if there is a difference in lubrication needs or whether it has to do with constant rpm?
  4. Sierra will do ,remember that neither Mercury Quicksilver nor Sierra owns a refinery. They just buy from some oil company. For Example, all the walmart Super Tech oil is Pennzoil.
  5. You can buy 25-40 at West Marine and Gander Mountain. Instead you can use straight weight detergent automotive oil SAE 20 in freezing weather, SAE30 (cold weather) or SAE40 for use in areas of 50 degrees and up. The 25 -40 can be used in all temperatures. If your 4.3 has a catalitic converter you should use a syntetic 20W-40 Your purolator filters are fine.Baldwin filters (made in USA) are better. It is not the filtering quality that is different, it is the thickness of the outside wall that makes baldwin preferable. Fram filters have a lesser reputation with stories of filters having collapsed or blown up
  6. Same here, with one difference. I found that a seasick wobbler added into this mix did most of the damage. Sometimes I put one scorpion into a presentation of mosty 42nths or magnums and the scorpion would do the work.
  7. Did I take that oath? Yes! I completely fail to understand why upstaters believe that another rich suburban New Yorker who is far behind in the polls will make a difference to what happens here. If that person cynically exploits your second amendment rights and sentiments it is in order to get NRA money to support his election bid. Do I support Cuomo? Heck No! That pompous arrogant arse should be thrown out of office. But, your alternative is worse. Voting for the other guy against Cuomo is not going to help you a bit. That is why I repeat : Bla Bla Bla
  8. Congratulatons on your succes. As for tigers, did you ever try Demond pond just off rout 68 in Rutland? My brother in law lives nearby and rumor has it....
  9. Check out where the water line is on your transom and set the cavitation plate 1 or 2 inches below that point. Now your propeller will be behind your transom and not below it. When trolling that is just fine. When you run on your main engine, the kicker will be out of the water.
  10. So gobies are a blessing after a fashion. The browns love them and the lakers and Atlantics love them while at the same time providing them with the right diet that enables them to succesfully reproduce. Long live the Gobi!
  11. I remember having a 6 footer as a constant companion during diving operations off the Southern Sinai peninsula. Every day when we went down he was there ,never attacking, but very curious!
  12. Field and Stream belongs to Dicks

  14. For all of you who have not drained the water out of your inboard engine. Go do so now,or it might get expensive
  15. Went there today to see what there is to see and I was pleasantly surprised. In the fishing section there are a lot of muskie lures, plenty of trolling gear and a good selection of lures. I was happy to see local lure makers represented. They have Northern King lures! The A-tom-mik products are very well represented and at the same price as our local little guy stores. On the whole not a bad place to go shopping. Oh, did I mention that it was a madhouse?
  16. It is a bit involved. First make very sure that you are ok with making a hole in your boat and where you want it. Then after having checked what is undet the gunwale, you must make some form of reinforcement under the aluminum so it will not start bending around the rodholder. Usually you can do this by putting a 1x5x16(or 12) piece of wood under the gunwale and screwed into it. This will spread the sideways force over a much larger area. Then you must drill a hole at 30 degrees through both aluminum and wood (or a larger straight hole that will accomodate the 30 degree angle). Unless you have the right tools and know what you are doing it can turn into a mess. Another way to do it is by taking a 1/4 inch piece of aluminum (1/4x5x16(or12) instead of the wood. This will allow you to drill a slightly larger but straight hole. Good luck
  17. Seeing that we finally have some creature that attacks the zebra and quaqua mussels. Maybe we should not think about how to catch them, but about how to protect them so they can do their job eating zebras!
  18. I accidently caught one in the 30 inch range. A log would give a bigger fight than these ancient creatures. I did not even try to boat it,instead it was released boatside by pulling the hook through and cutting the line.
  19. Field and Stream and ,for that matter, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro are really clothing and shoe stores with a nature motive. They do not offer a large selection of goods that are aimed at salmon trolling or other niche fishing like musky fishing. We will need our local guys to get what we need. Besides,do you really want to pay $14 for an A-Tom-Mik tournament fly at Gander Mountain when you can get it for half the price at your local store?
  20. The Field and Stream store in Henrietta (Rochester) will also open on 10-8-14
  21. Gecko guy is right. Your downrigger counter tells you the distance from the rigger to the ball. The pressure gauge inside the fishhawk calculates the depth.
  22. Check this thread. There are a lot of answers there to planer boards masts. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/9088-homemade-planer-boards-mast/
  23. Hello Lou Glad to see that you made it out for the day. I would have liked to be there with you, but my honey do list is just too large for full day trips. I did make it out for a morning run though. There is a lot of fish in front of the Genny just like in front of the Salmon river. but something is definitely out of sync. When I came back on the dock in I-Bay,there was a guy who showed me a 20+ pound three year old with spring silver coloring and none of the other physical changes that one would expect around this time of year. It looked like it was not going to spawn this year. Maybe just maybe we will have 4 year olds by the ton next year. And if so, may they be near the Little Salmon River in July!
  24. We launched at 06.15 from a very busy ramp. Perch fishermen and lake fisher men jostling for space. From the bay we went straight to the Genny mouth and joined the river mouth parade which in spite of a few boats running boards was very well behaved. After an hour of seeing fish porpoise and jump but not bite, we left for deeper water. We set up in 190 feet and soon enough we saw bait and hooks at 120 feet down and later at 50 and seventy. The thermocline was around 80 feet down. The catching was not stellar, but 2 small salmon and one laker kept the skunk out of the boat. Our next trip will probably be in 50 to 60 foot of water going after the browns. On our way back, around noon, we saw Upgrady going out .With the beach chairs on the rear deck it did not look like a fishing trip. Let's hope that this weather holds a bit longer so we can go out a few more times.
