  1. So what if there were no kings? Today on Owasco Lake we caught 4 rainbows, 2 browns and 9 slimers. A great time was had by the Massachussets family visiting us and we did not miss the kings for even one second. Yes kings are great ,but fishing as a family uniting activity is even better!
  2. The sides of Owasco are skinny for bass all the way up and down ,specially on the south end. The middle is cold water fishery with trout and lakers.
  3. That is fine. No problem. Here's why. Often ,not all the oil mixed into your fuel gets burnt in the cylinders. This happens specially at low RPM. This oil goes out the exhaust into the water. Oil is lighter than water. The exhaust housing in your lower unit is usually mostly under water and water is inside of it. At low RPM the exhaust gas does not have enough pressure to blow the water and crud all out and some stays floating on top of the water inside the exhaust housing. When you pull the boat, the oil and crud sticks to the inside of the housing and slowly comes down and seeps out through a vent hole. That is the oil you see seeping out. It is always a good idea to check you lower unit oil to see if it is at the right level or mixed in with water
  4. I just looked at this tread again and it dawned on me that we are reacting like a bunch of grumpy old farts. Let's get some good thoughts ,happy smiles and fish in the box!!
  5. I always try to keep the length between the dipsy and the terminal tackle about the length of the rod I use. That way I can net the fish by myself and with the rod and line on deck, there is less chance of a F---up
  6. This last weekend we pulled 10 colors leadcore +one surface line with stickbait at a 150 foot distance one lure line with a 1 ounce dive bomb on port and 400 feet of copper with a lure line with a 2 ounce bomb on starboard. We did this with double keeled otterboats. In the end the only difference between amish and otter is the storage room they take up. We keep the otter boats in the cooler till we need them, which is usually right at the start of trolling because when fishing ,they provide a lot stabilizing action when steering is difficult because of fish or wave action.
  7. No more combat driving in NH, They slowed down because they have even more potholes there than you can find on the southern tier. As for massholes, they are mostly from Boston. On the Turn Pike you will get fined if you move under 80mph
  8. Just so we don't break the rules. Can a 4 man team run 12 rods or is 8 rods the max that a boat can run?
  9. I do believe that the person selling them paid more than $104 a piece. I also believe That he is unaware of the $104 e-bay price. A PM would have been more effective and would probably have lowered the price
  10. The early VRO pumps were variable indeed, anywhere between 1:50 to 1:100.This fried a ton of outboards. Only after 1990 when the third generation was introduced it stopped being variable and went back to 1:50. But it sounds like your problem is not connected to the pump but more to the amount of fuel reaching the carbs at a high rpm. My bet is a pinhole in your fuel line allowing air instead of fuel to get sucked into the carbs. Many marine mechanics will change lines and pump at the same time allowing you to get on the water, but at the same time allowing them to sell you a pump that you may not need.
  11. The Oswego amateur part of the Pro-Am has changed its format in a few ways. Most important in the changes are the low entrance fee and the fact that amateurs no longer need an observer. The financial hardship and the observer logistic have been removed. This means that the tremendous potential of the Oswego Pro-Am has been unlocked and is once again available to many more weekend warrior fishermen. The amateurs have the potential to blow the Pros out of the water both in number of participants and price money. There is one problem. The rules changes are not widely known. That is where we, the weekend warriors come in. Talk about it,call your friends, leave notices at the marinas that you use.Call your local news paper and advertize in your rod and gun club! Let's all promote the new Oswego pro-am amateur tournament by word of mouth. Together,we have the strength to make this a 100 boat plus tournament. Make sure your boating friends know about this big boating event and let's make it bigger! I hope to see you all as a huge crowd overflowing the tent at the weigh-in. For more information read this thread: "oswego-proam" which was posted a few days ago in tournament talk. Below is an entree form that was posted by Tom from A-Tom-Mik Location Oswego, NY Here is a form to download and print http://freepdfhostin.../e9a6aebab0.pdf
  12. Thank you Tom. One thing. In your original announcement you wrote that the amateur entree fee is $300, but on the registration form it says $250. Is this by mistake or did you lower the fee? Thank you, Cornelis.
  13. Does anyone have some more info?
  14. We were asking ourselves the question yesterday. It's getting close to the usual dates and we need to know whether or not to make lodging arrangements.
  15. Great fish. This was all catch and release I presume
  16. You did a very smart thing by doing a pre-trip checkout of your rig.In this case you were not in danger of sinking because the exhaust goes straight up to the top of the manifold and remains above water level, but proper respect for Lake Ontario is very important indeed.
  17. Is it the monitor or the transducer that went kaput? You may be able to find the broken part and replace it. That would be the cheapest way to go As for replacement,...there are fishfinders and there Sitex and Furuno fishfinders. For Furuno, the 620 and 627 (bigger screen than 620) or the Sitex 650 are around $ 750 including a P66 transducer if you buy them through "the hull truth" website from semper fi fishing. http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/431316-furuno-629-sea-temp-way-off.html Gill Travis, the semperfi fishing man, is a vietnam veteran ,a phantom combat pilot and a trustwotrhy business man who will go out of his way to help you get the right thing. Good luck!
  18. There is no difference in weight between 9.9 and 15 horse engines. If it does not say that it is for the heavier 4 stroke engines then it is not. That being said, you do have the heavier type bracket and the extra 30 pounds are not going to make a huge difference. So don't worry about that part. The main problem you have there are the 4 bolts that go through the transom and hold the bracket. Because of the added 4 stroke weight it carries, it is probably a good idea to remove those bolts and add a plate ( I like half inch thick aluminum) of say roughly 25 centimeters by 25 centimeters or whatever you have room for on the inside of the transom, drill through this plate the needed holes from the outside of your transom and reattach the bracket in the exact same place ,but now with stronger bolts and stronger transom backing. It will protect your transom from having too much pull on 4 single spots and spreads it out over 625 square centimeters.
  19. If all you want to do is checking for oil seeping through, it will do just fine. Muskiedreams has some real good advice. That Garelick bracket looks like it is for a 2 stroke 10 horse, you may want to double check if it is strong enough for a heavier 4 stroke.
  20. For sale is a bit more than half a set of urethane foam (half a gallon) which will give you a little over 4 cubic feet of flotation foam. I used the other half on my Islander just this week. First $50 takes it. Because it has been opened once already I do not feel comfortable shipping it.
  21. There may well be 200 gallons below the pick up,but is it fuel or is it gunk, water and fuel?
  22. I seem to remember that you are rather obsessed with that safety chain hooked to the kicker. Maybe you can share an interesting story about a kicker that went swimming....
  23. That looks a lot like a bit of winterizing oil leaking out of the exhaust and if it is a 2 stroke, then it is just normal. But if it is a 4 stroke,it may be engine oil that is seeping past the o-rings into the cylinders and out through the exhaust. It may also just be some oil used to winterize the little engine. If it is a 4 stroke, take it on the water, check the oil, run it for about 15 minutes ,let it sit for 5 minutes and check the oil again. if everything is good, you're fine The outdrive looks like a mercruiser for 120 and 140 horse engines. Just grease it and check the oil level inside. ask the previous owner about the last time the impeller and the gimbal bearing and the hoses were replaced
  24. Ouch! It may pay for you to buy one of those plastic gas containers on wheels with a hose. With a savings of $1.25 a gallon and no more aggravation you will get the cost out of it in no time. The worst part of your comment is that little jerk laughing and not helping.
