  1. i replaced the gas lines on my 1984 Islander. it was a very good thing. The pre 2000 gas lines are not ethanol resistant and they will get eaten up by the alcohol. I did both the intake and the exit lines. The intake line was encased in foam, but it was also rotten and leaking. You will have to lift the floor, but it is well worth it
  2. Sorry about my late reaction,but... Coal fired plants on Lake Erie means that this coal was mined somewhere in the USA. Some mining company blew the top of some mountain in the Appalachian mountains. Miners are still dying of black long disease and mining disasters. A lot of fuel is burned to transport this coal while leaving coal dust along the way. Do you remember what happened a few months ago when a coal mine chemicals holding pond burst and destroyed the fresh water supply of a big city in north Carolina? Did you ever wonder how much the cooling water of these plants has raised the overall average temperature in Lake Erie? I do not like windmills, but I like coal even less
  3. Are you talking 12 volt or 24 volt? Also, If you have an I/O you will need bigger bilge pumps than when you have an outboard. If one of the hoses on the I/O pops loose it fills up awfully fast
  4. That is where I get it. He does not do credit cards.

  6. My rig has been next to the house all winter under a heavy tarp. Every time there was a warmish day (above 10 degrees) I crawled inside and looked and planned. At one point I even had a heater inside under the tarp to do some small stuff. But soon enough now....
  7. The bracket that I have in mind is connected to the I/O unit and right on top of the lower unit.It should have moving parts where neccesary. This leaves the kicker lower end right behind and slightly above the lower unit of the I/O. As you raise the lower unit of the I/O it raises the kicker as well. That way it has almost zero strain on the transom because it is stabilized by the I/O lower unit. which is very important while transporting your rig. The top end would be supported by a sliding bracket connected to the transom clamp and the transom that allows the kicker to easily go up and down. At least, that is what my vision is. Now all you have to do is talk about the feasability of this idea with someone with engineering skills. I would like Longline to give his opinion about this idea
  8. This is a picture of a setup. The height of the transom is a problem here, but you can raise the bracket considerably because the propeller does not have to be below the bottom of the transom. The best height would be with the controls just above the transom which calls for an extra long (25 or 30 inch) shaft, but that way the kicker stays very close to the transom which makes the operating a lot better. The port side requires longer remote cables ,unless you use wireless remote. Try to keep the electronics on one side and the kicker on the other. The perfect place would be right behind the main engine which is possible but requires some tricky mechanical skills. But it can be done.
  9. That sounds like great advice. The only problem is that salmon can't read.
  10. Check out where the charter boats go and follow them at a respectable distance.
  11. No I was mistaken. I got mixed up between a 47 and a 57 What I wrote goes for the 57. My apologies.
  12. No it will not. You can get 13 or 14 colors on it with backing. It does fit on a Penn 330 GTI
  13. Bass pro shop ,gander mountain and now field and stream will make sure that there is very little difference in price between them,so no, the new store will not be cheaper
  14. You should check the A-tom-mik website. He has a few prespooled reels for different lenghts of copper. This is what Tom loads 500 feet of copper onto.He sells them prespooled for $209 Okuma Clarion 553LS 500' 45# copper/backing/leader
  15. You had better take out a patent, this sort of idea deserves copyright protection
  16. That looks great. The only thing that I would change is the overhead rod storage and make it lean forward instead of backward while fishing so it is out of the way. And then swivel it back again while going places.
  17. My personal preference is 2 independent units that communicate. That way you have a lot of screen and never a problem of having to push buttons to switch between functions. You might buy Furuno 582 on steroids units such as a Furuno 627 or a Si-Tex svs 650 as fish finders and a very fancy GPS and still be at no more than $1200 . It is a good idea to ask the same question at "The Hull Truth" there are some very knowledgeable people there.
  18. There is a problem. A few years ago I was at Fat Nancy to buy a set of half keels. The person who "helped" me told me that everybody who wants extra keels must have full keels and that there is no such thing as a half keel. Then this person told me that he knows a lot more about trolling than me. That was my last visit to Fat Nancy. People who bought the extra full keel did have problems when they slowed down because the double keels did sink. Having to special order the half keels from Big Jon instead of being able to buy them in stores is a problem and causes situations like the one I just described.
  19. My otter boats always run with 2 keels, but for a different reason. Doing most of my fishing alone,I always had a problem staying on course and fighting a fish at the same time. Having hard pulling otterboats helps going straight while catching a fish.
  20. Bass pro is no better where prices are concerned. Much as I hate to admit , I buy most of my line at Walmart because they are 2 or 3 dollars cheaper per 100 yards of the same product, same goes for stuff like m5200 The truth is that salmon trolling really is very much a little fringe thing for Gander Mountain and not where their profits are made, so they jack up the prices in order to keep it profitable
  21. That only works if the winds come from the north. Most of the time, at least when I fish that wind goes the wrong way.
  22. The corps will clear the I-Bay entrance out this summer and bring it bacb to 9 feet depth. Then, come Fall, they will start dredging the Gennie down to 21 foot all the way to the turn around
  23. I usually go down to either 2 downriggers or one copper. As for steering I try to run the wave troughs which helps me keep a straight line.
  24. I do not see how such a small board could hold course if any lines are attached to the tow line, the only way to do it would be by having the both the tow line and the fishing line attached to the board with the back pull of the lure helping to create an angle which would normally be done by the weight and angle of the bigger boards
  25. It would be just like a regular board with line, but with the fishing line attached with rubberbands or something simular to the board and the fishing line giving the board its angle. When the fish hits ,the line pops lose and then the board no longer pulls sideways but lines up behind the stern ( which is a pain in the butt).
