  1. There is one thing about no communication that irks me. No communication with who? During the Oswego pro-am my wife went to visit my daughter whose due date was up. I did turn my phone off , but not happily so. It might be a good idea to be allowed to receive calls not in any way connected to fishing, position or competition. The above may very well have been the reason why somebody may or may not have broken the no communication rule. In my opinion, comparable circumstances should be legitimate exceptions to the no communication rules.
  2. It is a good feeling to have my electronics safely stacked in my basement. I don't know if the cold does anything to them, but if half an ounce of prevention can save me the $3000 replacement cost ,in the basement they go.
  3. So did you buy it??
  4. That sounds very impressive. I presume that the no communication concept is out the door
  5. That looks like a great birthday present that you gave yourself! About carp being a trash fish,it is in the eye of the beholder. Anybody with eastern european ancestry or chinese for that matter, will find that pickled or smoked carp was a big part of their grand parents diet. The pickling dissolved the small bones. I know some people with a pond in their backyard who will catch carp and put them in their pond feeding them corn for a week or 2. The mud taste is gone by then and they do taste just fine.
  6. I had some blocks done at Power Marine Services in Canandaigua and they did a fine job. Their Phone # 585-394 3590. But you being a mechanic, you probably know some good machine shops nearer to horse heads. If you want to do the rebuild yourself you should definitely buy the rings, pistons and whatever else you need online, it will save you about fifty percent. Also you may want to look for a rebuilt block that is ready to go and compare prices.
  7. The powers that be will have to prove that Lew 56 did. Lew56 does not have to prove that he did not.
  8. You should have mentioned the lodgings as well. Few things are as nice as walking down to the dock from the cottage or coming back through the river towards the dock.
  9. Thank you for your concern and Pop.Get better soon. I guess my main concern would not be my demise ,but I do worry about my wife getting ripped off if she has to face that situation unprepared
  10. I know ,this sounds like a strange subject for fishing, but I just had a near death experience (I am fine now) and it got me to think about my wife being stuck with all my gear and not knowing what to do with it. If she would have to sell boat and gear she would have no idea about its value. Did any of you good people have to face a similar experience and how did you solve the situation,or do you have any idea about how you would like to solve it? Thanks,Cornelis.
  11. If you want to use a macerator ,you will likely have to install it inside your waste water tank. That is to make sure that any paper and such will be ground up before it gets into a pipe where it might otherwise cause a blockage.
  12. The solution to most problems is to first go fishing
  13. Yes Nick won !!!
  14. HMS Mayfloat or Mayfly
  15. Catching the blue gills requires that you get to your spot where the water is about 20 feet deep and the morning fog is rising off the water. That is when the fish feel safe enough to come to the surface where the bugs are struggling because of the relatively low surface pressure. This time it was a bit north of the state launch on the east side and on the east side of that long 28 foot hole. As for Zebco, mine is not pink. It is about 6 foot long with a #33 reel on it. I use either red cajun line (#10) or 4 pound test. These are great little rods for canoes and for fishing streams with heavy brush and overhanging branches, You can do great under hand casts while standing right under those low branches where a classical flyrod would be close to useless.
  16. I did not think anybody would be interested but just this morning on Honeoye I gave fly fishing my first try. I just used my canoe and a little zebco rod with 4 pound test with a fly on the business end All I had to do was find a place where the bluegills were feeding on the surface and cast my fly. That made for some 20 fish in about half an hour. One of them gave me a nice surprise. As I was reeling it in ,a pike grabbed it and started pulling the other way. It let go as soon as it saw the canoe, but it was a fun experience. The little blue gill had teeth marks all over it. I released all the fish. I love those little zebco rods, besides,I want to take a step up and be right there with Has Been who said in a previous post: "it 's a fly reel & that I don't want to step down a notch & start pinning".
  17. These sturgeon are not great fighters at all. I accidently caught a 3 footer about 2 years ago. It did not fight at all,I just sort of slowly dragged it to the boat and even next to the boat it still acted like a piece of dead wood.
  18. The electric motors are the exact same as high end electric window motors of german cars. There is a post on file somewhere in here describing how to make your own electric planer board retrieval setup.
  19. I honestly do not know the answer, but here is a phone number that should help (518) 474-0445. These are the people who enforce these laws so they should know.
  20. Here is a little bit of info about boating course requirements. http://www.boatus.com/magazine/2013/October/your-states-boating-education-requirements.asp and the next link is to a free boating course for NY waters. http://www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/NewYork.asp
  21. Just my 2 pennies. You can only make a comparison if all the other factors are the same. Like overall weight, weight distribution, trim tabs, cleanliness of hull, size of propeller, and so on. So no matter what the other guys do,it may or may not be possible for you. My Islander is a 19 footer with trim tabs and a 3 liter engine. She goes up on plane at 16mph if I trim her the right way. If I don't trim her the right way I do not make it to 16 mph and all my fuel goes toward creating a very large bow wave.
  22. When a first time poster tries to sell stuff, I will not buy. When a first time poster tries to sell a car or a motorbike he should be thrown of the site and his post along with him.
  23. Hmm,I'm just waiting for a lovin spoonfull of comment from Spoonfed to what Gambler said
  24. I don't know, When I'm either out in the woods or on the water it is without any gizmos or gadgets. They are in my car where I can charge them when needed.
