  1. If you do that you might as well make it a paying members only website only and that would mean the end of this website because there will be no more paying advertizers to power this site
  2. I did a lot of brown fishing just east of I-bay during this time of year. If you can, fish in 40 to 60 feet of water. Not only will you catch browns but also small mouth and lakers.
  3. Are these special trailer tires or standard car tires?
  4. IMO (and the founding father's) Domestic tranquility is something this county's populace needs...badly! Tom B. (LongLine) How about you and I have a beer one of these days?
  5. I would get a 16 or 17 foot aluminum boat and use it on a smaller fingerlake for a season. That will give you a basic idea of what boats can and will do If you feel comfortable and safe with that, you can start looking into going out on Lake Ontario with a bigger and heavier boat that is still towable, say a 19 to 21 foot aluminum boat. Once you have done all of that, you will probably know what you can handle and what you want.
  6. I have absolutely no problem with persons having weapons to hunt and defend themselves. In fact ,I think that it is the smart thing to do. My fears with unlimited anything goes guns are different. We already have a law on the books stating that a corporation is a person and as such has many rights. Now what would stop such a person (corporation) from arming itself and become a privately owned army. It is a nightmare to have corporations with their private armies.
  7. A 1984 rebuilt 19 foot starcraft Islander. It's built for dirty weather!
  8. The legal commonplace book is indeed a book by Jefferson. It is a compilation of quotes made by amongst others Cesare Beccaria. Although it is written by Jefferson the quotes are not his. I stand by my statement.
  9. The above quote is not by Thomas Jefferson. It is Cesare Beccaria's from an essay about crime and punishment. Jefferson commented on this quote and called it a "false idea of utility". You can check this in the Monticelli library. Claiming that statements such as these were made by the founding fathers shows that the pro gun lobby is very creative in stretching the truth in order to validate their argument. Heck, just throw in a founding father and claim he said something, it does not matter whether he did or not,
  10. I have done that for a long time now. The mono goes into the clip when I use the boards. the braid on leadcore gets damaged by the clips and the backing braid slips out much to easy,so that bit of mono does a great job.
  11. I usually get it in Penn Yan at a store called "The Beverage Baron"
  12. I have used the willis knot , but I usually make them with two loops about 2 inches apart. It works good with 27# to 20#. The 18 # is harder and you have to use 12 #mono
  13. There is no such thing as a bad year when you talk about fishing. This was a good year, but last year was great. It is a bad year when you can't go fishing
  14. If you go in a straight line from the church of the college in a 60 degree line you will hit the best laker spot in the Penn Yan arm. It is a bit less than halfway toward the eastern shore. Fishing for lakers works very well with a leadcore setup baited with sawbellies and pulling it at 1.8 mph. That would make for easy peddling and good catching. My trolling pattern in that area goes between the winery on the hill next to some open land on the south east and the farm with the silage bins in the north west.
  15. So you do not want a debate, but you think that we should all read it ???????? Me thinks that executive actions are very much protected by the constitution and are very much better defined than the second amendment. If you feel that your second amendmentment rights should be protected, than you should also feel that these constitutional executive rights should be protected and respected
  16. Owasco usually is very good to me. I have fished it since 1982. I do 99% of my fishing there between an hour before sunrise and 3 hours after.
  17. That pic shows what I call a dumb sucker
  18. I would say Owasco. It is a Lamprey free lake. It is plenty deep and best, it is small enough to go to either the north end when there is heavy northern wind making the south end unfishable or go to the south end when there is southern wind. I have caught pike, browns and lake trout on the southern end when there is a good southern wind sucking that cold water right up to the weed beds. There is a launch on both the north end and the south end so just check the wind direction and choose your launch site accordingly. The distance between the 2 launches is about 14 miles. Just make very sure that your boat and bilge are clean. As a cottage owner I have a big interest in keeping the quagga mussle and the lamprey out of our lake
  19. Keep them coming. I wish I could be on the water now,but between my children and grand child visiting and replacing the engine in my boat, there's no fishing for me.
  20. A very easy way to determine whether you have a spun prop is by taking a marker and making a straight line along the prop and the gear case behind it. Now just run the engine in the water. If the line is no longer continuous you have a spun prop.
  21. With the boat at 1500 pounds and the trailer itself probably 3 or 4 hundred pounds you should get a 3500 pound axle with electric brakes. Under NY state law any trailer that weighs over a thousand pounds empty or over 3000 pounds loaded must have brakes. Putting brakes on your trailer really extends the life time of your vehicle brakes and if you ever had to stop on a wet road and the trailer pushed you forward anyway you will know what I mean. Why 3500 pounds ? They are the most common and that makes them cheap. I replaced my axles with the help of this guy. He guided me through the process of measuring and then send me an axle with electric brakes that was the exact size for what I needed. He was cheaper than any of his competitors. You can give him a call and he will help you. I just added his ebay store to my post so you can get an idea what this guy is all about. 22. With my short fuse I just stay away from any pack. There are just way too many combat opportunities while combat fishing.
  23. We are doing just fine without lead in NY.
  24. This sounds eerily like the Salmon River guides who beat up on somebody because he walked in "their" spot. One wonders if this is the same guys
  25. Often after weigh in at a tournament ,fishermen are wondering what to do with all those hundreds and sometimes thousands of pounds of fish. I know that deer meat is often donated to needy people. This is a well organized and succesful program. Is it possible to do the same with king salmon? I just found out that there is a private effort to do just this by somebody in Fair Haven. This person just accepted the fish caught at the Fairhaven Challenge ,separated the skein and eggs, filetted the fish and when I asked him what he does with all those pounds of fish,he answered that he gives it to those in need. I do not know your name but, thank you and more power to you! Does anybody know whether it is possible to do this on a larger scale (lake wide)?
