  1. This morning, as a farewell present to my son who will go back to college on Friday,we went to the Oak and did some real nice fishing. It started on the inside with 3 20 + plus kings from 50 foot over 120 feet with the thermocline at roughly 45 feet down. Then we went hunting for the secrets of Yankee Troller and trolled out all the way to the 29 line. Along the way there was a very steady pick of both steelies and cohos but no kings and no Yankee Troller in sight. Maybe I was a bit too far east. Around noon we turned around and trolled back to 160 feet without so much as a bite. We finished the day at 9 for 11. It is a joy to be able to be out there. Cornelis
  2. These engines have electronic ignition, so in order for the plugs to spark, they need a 12 volt source. It is not the old magnetic pull start that produces its own electric energy
  3. The bass will have a hard time protecting their spawn, but, both the bass and brown trout will grow very big and fat eating these slow tasty nibbles.
  4. The earlier ones have a very massive aluminum keel
  5. I beg to disagree with the NGK plugs. Johnson/Evinrude is tuned for Champion plugs. The plugs that you can choose from for this engine are:QL82C, L77J4,QL77J4,Ql16V,L16V. My advice would be to go with the L or QL 77J4.Although you can go a bit hotter with the 78 The Q means that there is a resistor in the plug in order to prevent interference with your electronics. Your problem may be too rich a fuel/ air mix, too much oil mixed in with your fuel or just plain the wrong type of oil. Make sure to use TCW3 2 stroke oil. As far as ethanol in the fuel is concerned.Don't worry about it, it has no influence on your engine performance as far as fouling is concerned. If anything it makes the engine run cleaner. You can do a simple carb cleaning by removing the bowl and cleaning the high speed jet,but that has absolutely nothing to do with plug fouling. PLease do not hyjack posts,it makes it hard to answer.Just start your own thread.
  6. Run it a bit leaner and get hotter plugs. Make sure that you run a 1:50 mix.
  7. The best help would be a half day charter out of Olcot , that way you will get a feel of it
  8. Looks like you found the perfect fishing partner. Great fish.
  9. I want to see a picture of that break dance!~
  10. The wandering thing while trolling can also be taken care of in a completely different way. Put your otter boards or amish boards out and they will act as natural stabilizers.
  11. That points at poor fuel supply. Try to run the engine with the fuel supply positioned higher than the outboard itself. This is a trick we used on the old pressurized tanks. Cleaning out your pump is never a bad idea.Sometimes a check valve in the pump gets stuck and although forcing the fuel through often opens it (pumping the primer ball),the regular vacuum action of the pump does not.
  12. Disconnect the hose from the exit hole of the fuel pump and turn the engine over. If you get strong pulses of fuel coming out, the pump is not your problem
  13. Time for some apologies My sincere apologies to the Horsin Around crew and captain whose team name I used without their permission. My sincere apologies to Tom and Cold Steel. What I thought to be a funny comment was not perceived as such by anybody but me. I have nothing but respect for Tom and what he does for the fishing community on the east end and I have personally thanked him several times for what he does. My apologies to the entire Lou Community for allowing my fingers to touch a keyboard without thinking first. The Horsin around team members are not sore loosers and the apology that the captain made was sincere. He was surprised to see his team name under my comments and instantly apologized for things said by a member using the team name while having no connection to what was said. At this point I am thinking about scrubbing the deck on my bare knees with a tooth brush. I will try not to write any more comments that may be understood as insulting by others Hoping to be still a team member,Rolmops.
  14. Yesterday, Saturday 7/27 ,was the Little Salmon challenge. Although the fishing was difficult and the lake a bit bumpy, the challenge was an overwhelming success.Heck, there must have been over 80 teams participating. Things were made easy for the participants. Things like not needing an observer, overall relaxed rules and very reasonable entry fees made for truly fantastic participation. Everybody was a winner. The weigh in , dinner and rewards ceremony was a thundering succes. Everybody walked away with some kind of price. It was truly heart lifting to see so much good will and effort result in such a great community event. Thanks to all the organizers, sponsors and participants. You can probably teach the organizers of the west end pro-ams a trick or two. See you all next year and greetings from just Rolmops
  15. Ok I got one.
  16. I am looking for a mid eighties mercruiser 140 long block with good compression in good condition for a reasonable price. If you have one, please PM me, if possible, with a picture. Thank you,Cornelis.
  17. Spin doctor to fly is 17 to 20 inches ,while a spoon is about 2.5 to 3 feet.
  18. I often use small red or yellow jensen dodgers with super slim dreamweavers for coho and steelhead. Browns seem to be attracted by frog dodgers with frog lures
  19. Just to make sure that there is a fuel issue, does the engine rev up a bit just before it shuts off? Also, do you have to prime the engine after it shuts off or can you just restart it? And last is the running time the same after the first time it shuts off or does it get shorter? Is there water in your fuel tank/seperator or carburetor bowl?
  20. Try the tackle store across the road from Fat Nancy. There is a very significant difference in the cost of things (much Cheaper for the exact same products)
  21. Your fuel pump creates a vacuum or at least a reduced pressure environment within the fuel lines. No matter which engine you use, the vacuum fuel pump creates under pressure in both lines There may be a small leak in one of your fuel lines, which causes it to suck air into the line, thereby effectively reducing the fuel intake, because it takes less energy to suck air then it takes to suck fuel. When you use the ball in the fuel line, you fill the carburetor bowl to the top,but if there is a small leak that sucks air, the bowl will slowly empty out and after a minute or so dependent on the size of the air leak your engine will stop. Then when you use the ball ,you will start the entire process again. My advice would be to check all your hoses and to install a 3 way valve in your fuel line or have 2 independent hookups to your fuel supply. That way you reduce your risk of air sucking in your system from across the other engine fuel supply. Good luck.
  22. It does not say that you cannot buy a derby ticket for kids under ten. Just buy a ticket and the problem is solved
  23. This question has been on my mind for a while . What happens when during a Pro-am contest one catches a potential LOC Derby winner? Are the Pro-am scales officially recognized or do we have to run to have it weighed in at a different place? What happens if the obsever on the boat (who is in no way allowed to do any fishing) does not have a LOC derby ticket? LOC rules state that all crew members must be signed up. Does this automaticly disqualify the fish or do the rules allow the fish to be entered? Cornelis.
