Thanks for doing what we all should do!

By using flat stock with wing nuts you will have a hard time raising the kicker and the wing nuts will vibrate themselves loose. This is the one place where a Stearns motor link steering with ball jointed connectors is the best way to go. the ball joints will allow you to raise and lower the kicker without forcing and/or bending the bar. You can bend and shorten the bar and fit it to your needs. I got one a few years ago at Gander mountain for $25 ,they will probably be around $30 now

That sounds like you had a swarm with a new queen looking for a new home -
If I take them,The guts go in the freezer until garbage pickup day. Then they go in the garbage can. Most of the time though, the fish are gutted a few miles off shore and the guts go in the drink.

Two years ago I saw an interesting solution for running copper out of the chute. On "Just horsin Around" they let 4 or 5 hundred feet of copper out and just before the backing they put a BIG bobber. Then they let it out another 50 feet and dragged it along with the copper rod up in the rack . When there was a big hit and the copper might be in the way they let out another 200 feet of backing. The backing stayed above the surface out to the bobber and the copper was out of the way. Now that we have double keeled otter boats,we no longer use this bobber thing. The copper goes off to the side. -

Crazy Yankee Sportfishing That area is his sand box and he plays in it all the time. When you go out with him, you will not only have a great time,he is also good at explaining what he does and why it works! -
The impeller must be lubricated with a bit of dish soap and while the housing is slid over the impeller into place the driveshaft must be turned clockwise to insure that the fins are in the right direction and nothing binds inside the housing.

It was time again for my once a year trip with my brother in law from Mass. We left the river around 05.30 and headed north. Over 100 feet we started marking bait ,but hunting for salmon we moved out to 150 feet and set up with an empty screen. There was some sort of thermocline setting up around 45 feet of water where the temps dropped from 56 to 43.5 within 3 feet and a 56 degree surface temp. We trolled due north with one dipsy on a 2 setting with 320 foot out with spin doctor and fly and the other with a greasy chicken lure ( a big chicken wing) 135 foot out. One rigger out at 70 and the other at 40 and one 8 color and a 6 color core on the riggers.Going out to 175 feet ,the deep dipsey got hit and we had a screamer on. I gave it to my brother in law and made sure to set the clutch a bit looser than I normally would (for added spectacular effect) After 20 minutes we had a nice 22 pound salmon and an utterly happy B. I.L. on the boat. We trolled farther north picking up a few juvenile kings. When we came to 325 FOW I saw this beautiful scum line with steelies sucking bugs on the surface. I can only assume that it was the extension of the Niagara river. Anyway from here on we criss crossed the scum and raised the riggers to 40 and 25. There we caught and released about 25 steelies within 3 hours. Most were in the 6,7 pound range but a few were in the low teens. While this was happening, the deep disey fired once more but after a short fight that one came off. One time one of the riggers fired but the release was still on a salmon setting so the line stayed stuck in the release and we lost that steelie. The hot lures were chicken wings and glow froggies both dream weaver SS. All in all a great day. Specially because ,although it was very foggy in the morning, the thunder storms passed us at a good distance both east and west, while we stayed dry, give or take a sprinkle or two. We talked to Shake and Bake a few times and gave him what information we had and they too did very well. Cornelis.

This morning we left our dock to look for kings, so we went out deep and far. It took a while, but well over 200 fow and between 50 and a 130 down we did find all sorts of goodies. First came a small king off 500 copper which our junior able seaman Chris was gracefully allowed to bring in. This was followed by 2 lakers also out of the basement. the first maybe 7 pounds, while the second one was over 10 pounds. This one did give us a decent fight. Next was a long hiatus which was finally broken by something funny. Captain Lou decided to make a phone call, but before he dialled he said:"Of course when I touch the phone we will get a hit. As soon as the call was answered there was a hit which was another smallish salmon from a hundred foot down on a rigger. We brought it in and the interupted phone was remade resulting in the next fish, this time a steely off a 10 color leadcore. Then there was a bit of a break, so I pulled out my cell phone and dialed a number and yet again a fish answered. another steely, this time a six pounder. Again there was a bit of a break but this time without a phone call the 300 dipsy went of. This one was for real.Chris took the rod and instantly we knew it to be a king. It started by taking well over a hundred feet out and then it made 4 more runs before if was finally netted. He came in at about 24 pounds. We packed up around one in the afternoon after a very nice day on the water. It is my feeling that our "Just Horsing Around" team is turning into a mean lean fishing machine under the able guidance and training of captain Lou. Cornelis

Maybe the trim tab fluid reservoir or the tilt and trim fluid reservoir.

Plenty of great used motors out there and the 4strokes are a no-brainer if you can swing the money. You'll make it back in fuel savings if you fish a lot. I remember running 2 6gal tanks for a day of fishing with our old 9.9 2-stroke. Now it's a few days worth of trips on 5gal. If you are looking new check out Internetoutboards.com an kicker brackets that raise/lower for travel and fishing.d onlineoutboards.com (both the same place). No shipping/no tax and both motors I bought got here in 3days from Tenn. Not trying to push the brand any more than I already have... Just saying they're a great company to deal with and I love both motors.

Go with an 8 or 10 horse longshaft, not so much for speed, but it will help keep you on course with strong side winds as islanders are high on the water. As for cables for remote control, you have a problem. Because of the high transom your kicker top will be below the top of the transom. This means that the cables will have to curve at very stiff angles and when you raise the kicker the cables will press against the stern. You can solve this by drilling a hole in the transom and let the cables go through the hole thereby allowing the space inside of the transom to come into play or, by getting either wireless remote control or electric control speed adjustment. For steering, get an EZ steer. Tiller is useless, but any tiller can be made into a remote. Good luck,Cornelis

It does not sound like your carbs are the problem. My guess is fuel supply. Check your fuel filter at the pump and the pump itself. To check this, run your engine and start playing with the choke (fuel enrichener). If you pick up more speed while choking you can be sure that the problem is not your carburetor.
