There are 2 simple solutions available. The simplest one is adding another 2 inches of height in the area where your kicker hangs. One side of the board should be cut under the same angle that your transom rises at the splash box. This should give you another 4 or 5 inches of room to play with. It really is not very important for a kicker's cavitation plate to be flush with your keel. As long as the prop is fully submerged ,you are fine. The other solution is making a horizental cut in your transom towards the side and creating more space for the kicker that way. This does in no way compromise the integrity of your transom. Having the kicker hanging on the transom is way better than having it a foot behind it. While boating and during transport. As for savings. Not only do you save yourself a Garelick bracket , but you do not need an EZ steer setup either. You can use a front steering bar (Stearns) that costs $25. The Garelick and EZ steer together are about $500.

This is a job you can do by yourself for about $300 everything included. It is not hard but it takes a bit of patience and a willingness to do something new. you can either rebuild it out of wood or pour a new transom into the space that the old one occupies now. In both cases you will have to remove the old transom first. The one thing that you do not want is to have your transom break and for you to go down.

We had a great time fishing the Challenge. We went north out of the Little Salmon,19 miles north to look for brown trout and we were lucky to find them. We ended with a nice box ,6 browns and weighed in with 34 pounds and change. It was not good enough to be in the money , but just fishing today and witnessing the great atmosphere in the tent during and after weigh in made everybody a winner. Thank you Tom for organizing this fisherman's community event. You made a lot of people happy today!! Cornelis. -
That goes against the grain of everything America stands for ,and quite frankly, it reeks of fascism

There is something about the moon and its connection to the time of day when fish bite. Sometimes it is in the middle of the day .

That is really where you save fuel. By running your engine at 2/3s of its capacity your fuel consumption goes way down per mile traveled.

There is a technical problem with the tweets talking to our website and people are working to get it back to how it is supposed to be. One of these people called it a problem with the API. I have no idea who mister API is ,but somebody is straightening him out and we should get the tweets back before too long

The yamaha 150 has a WOT range that is between 5000 and 6000 rpm. so in theory you can go up a 1000 RPMs. that would mean going from 17 to 12 pitch. But Stainless has less relative water resistance than Aluminum. So it is a good idea to slightly increase your propeller size and go down a bit less in pitch. If you have an F150 you should look into a 15x14.87 stainless, if it is a regular you are better of with 15x14.37. these are Mitchel Appollo stainless props.

Did the instant report tweets dry up ? The last one I can get on my computer is from June 11. Is it my super sensitive fire wall or did people stop tweeting? Oops, never mind I just read the reason why,it's called API

Almost the only thing that Force motors and Mercury outboards have in common is Factory ownership. The Force is older Chrysler technology with added parts of older mercury technology. The Chrysler parts are great, the Mercury parts not so much. The best way to to enjoy this engine is by running it on a 40:1 mix. That way you pre-empt a lot of the problems that this Mercury step child may cause you.

I have a hard time understanding why either a mate or a captain should be dependent on customer's moods to get proper pay for a hard day's work. They deserve a decent income without being dependent on somebody's good or bad moods. The tipping system makes it possible for the captain to pay his mate less than minimum wages and also encourages tax evasion. Neither is a good thing. I would suggest that the price for a charter includes all expenses accompanied by a receipt. If on top of that you wish to give a tip you are more than welcome to do so, but nobody's income should depend on it. Cornelis.

For the past few weeks every time we go fishing we find huge schools of bait, but hardly any salmon at all and even the brown trout in Mexico Bay seems to be a rare species.Only the lakers seem to be willing takers. Does anybody have an idea or theory or opinion about this dismal fishing these past few weeks and when if at all it should get better?

That is the real solution to the problem. The idea about the water intake coming out of the water when planing is pure undiluted hog wash. The water intake on a 15 horse is at the same level as the prop. On plane at higher speeds it should take in more water, not less. Sometimes there is some crud on the screens or zebramussels just behind the screens and that will cause the above mentioned problems. Just for peace of mind you should still check the impeller because if the crud went past it ,it may have done some damage on the way through

I just ordered a 12 inch Forscher off the Katom website. Thanks to all you guys for your advise and opinions, Cornelis. (I wonder how long it will take before I try to use it as a screw driver).

Thank you for your replies. The Oswego guy is a sight to behold. He usually works in the Oswego harbor fish cleaning station. He uses this 12 or 14 inch scimitar shaped knife( probably a Forschner). The first time I saw him I was flabbergasted and just stood there for a few minutes to watch him perform his art. With just a very few very deft strokes of his knife, all executed within half a minute, he transforms very large salmon into perfect boneless clean cut and tasty looking fillets. The man is a master of his trade. Although I will probably never reach his level of perfection, I want to use the same knife and give it to myself for father's day. Cornelis.

I completely forgot about it.Those Lake Ontario fish are very addictive.

I'm looking to buy a new fillet knife. The one I want to buy is just like the knife that the fish cleaner guy in Oswego harbor uses. Does anybody know the brand and the length of the knife he uses? Thanks, Cornelis.

Wanted Extra Keels for Otter Boats
rolmops replied to BrokeOff's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
They are double keels with one keel that has half the weight. I tried the double keel with 2 full weights and in turns, the inside one sinks and makes a mess and when a line breaks, they are gone to Davey Jones locker ( Fat Nancy pushed the double full weight keels and they have seen the last of my business). Then I tried a double keel with only one weight. This works fine , but when it is a bit sloppy , the one in the outside turn will almost topple over. Finally the double keels with one and a half weights , do everything the right way, but they do lay fairly deep in the water, which on the one hand makes them work great, but on the other hand makes them a bit harder to see and when a line breaks it is very hard to find them. I solved this problem by planting a little red flag on each boat, I may change it to a star spangeled banner for the fourth of July. After a bad experience with a very rude charter boat captain, I sharpened the fronts of both keels and now if anybody tries to push me aside with their amish boards instead of sharing this Great Lake, my keels will cut right through their lines Cornelis
