All the spare parts for johnson and Evinrude engines from 1957 and up are widely available at Johnson dealers and most marinas. If you are in Rochester,NY, your best connection would be Mayers Marina at the outlet of Irondeqoit Bay (webster side) because he specializes in Johnson Evinrude (and Chrysler and Bearcat) from between 1915 and 1980 and he will tell you exactly how to install. Pugsly also has everything you need. If you want to buy online, it is www.iBoats.com you want to look at because not only do they have all the parts you need, they also have discussion forums with one that is dedicated exclusively to the repair and maintenance of johnson /Evinrude outboards. This forum has been up for close to 12 years now and has advanced search and condensing functions to help you navigate through tens of thousands of pages dedicated to outboard maintenance contributed by very fine (and some not so fine) outboard mechanics.

How about Oakville? -
There are a lot of Amish farmers around and off route 14a. They will not read this board ,but a trip down there will probably help you get a place to store the boat.

Before you take that plunge, check out on Tohatsu 4 strokes. In Rochester,ny there is a guy who sells them new for +/- $2200.

My Islander 191 has a 9.9 longshaft on a Garelick adjustable kicker bracket. The steering is done with an easysteer bar and the 6 gallon fuel tank is tied on top of the transom and does not take up space at all. The short shaft would make it hard to use if you have a pull start and the shift and accellerator cables would be in a bad spot. Even with the longshaft I had to drill a hole through the transom to accomodate the cables. If you can find a 25 inch extra long it would be great and electric start and stop is a must. As for usin it on your 14 footer, it should be easy to make a transom plate that allows you to raise the transom from 15 to 20 or 25.

This is not connected to Big O,but . When I was in Thailand i saw local sports fishermen bringing bunches of bananas with them to the beach. With water resistant ink, they would draw eyes and lines on this forbidden fruit and used them as casting lures for barracuda (4 and 5 footers). They were very succesful.

The story that I heard was a bit different and dates from the early 20th century when the banana trade started. Banana boats not only carried bananas but also lots of snakes and poisonous spiders that were hidden in the bunches. Often the sailors were bitten by these critters and got sick or died. Thence it is said that bananas on the boat are bad luck.

It's hard to understand this quaint squabbling. At least half the boat crowd that I know picks up their flyrods or even their zebco rod and goes stream fishing in fall and winter. So stream versus trolling numbers are really not a valid measure of any kind. As for the atlantic salmon conspiracy, my soon to be daughter in law is working on the atlantic restoration project as part of her doctoral thesus (queens University in Kingston, Ontario) I asked her a few questions about this project and she told me that there is an effort made to restore the wilderness north of Kingston all the way up to Alqonkin National Forest and because atlantic salmon are part of the original population efforts are made to repopulate the streams with these fish. Atlantics are part of the overal picture but not the entire picture at all.

Yes you can get down to a hundred feet, but it takes a different approach and it takes live bait. I've only done this on Keuka and Owasco , but by trolling at +/- 1.8 mph you will be at about 50 t0 60 feet down. Then when you see a deep target on your fish finder you cut the engine and allow the live bait to sink slowly to the bottom and intermittantly speed up just a bit. That way I've taken lakers out of the 300 foot hole just north and west of the boyscout camp in Owasco lake. Trying this with artificials is a waste of time. If you fish the finger lakes, there is a more effective way to go about things. Look at the hills surrounding the lake and when you see a hill sloping down towards the lake with some flat space near the shore, you can be sure that this hill continues under water thereby creating a hump with a current flowing over it. The lakers will be laying just under the current on the lee side.If you run back and forth a few times you will know where to make your approach from and your creel will be full before you know it.

In the highway department of the town of Brighton it is the general rule never to work alone.(Union Shop) In factory maintenance there should be a lot of lock-out tag-out and confined space ,which requires permits and lots of other good stuff. Unless Osha or Pesha are ignored it is hard to not have constant check back with other team members

I have a soft top for a 221 with side curtains with zippers. PM me if interested. -
It's not just length. The 20 footer is big enough for a closed bow, while with the 18 footer you may need an open bow just to be able to store things. On the lake a closed bow is safer.

For a short time,I owned the riviera triple boards and I hated them. I was told by the the salesman to add lead on the rear ends and mostly on the outer board. There really is no good place to add lead and once you start cutting the styrofoam you will find that you do not really have anything to attach the lead to. I'm not even talking about equal weight on both sides. Long story short,I sold the boards to somebody in British Columbia and bought otter boats, they are much better.

Man, that is a very tidy and effective set-up. You may get away with taking the measurements of the space where your battery is now and get the biggest possible one in there or the 2 smallest batteries ( I'm thinking honda or fiat size). The biggest possible one would probably be the most cranking amps. Combine that with a pergo 3 way switch and with the flick of a switch you can choose which engine you want to charge the battery with. As for a water separator ,you don't really need it because these small tanks are often almost emptied and they can easily be removed and emptied by hand if there is water or dirt inside
