The fifty horse can use a small car battery and never have trouble, unless the battery is drained by a day of riggers going up and down,or if it is a walmart battery. It is always a good idea to have one deep cycle and one regular starter battery. That with a Pergo 3 way,so you can choose which battery to charge from what engine with the turn of a knob. Besides, you can buy a trickle charger for $30 at sears, this enables you to always completely recharge your battery while at home.

For Sale : USA P-66 Transducer Airmar
rolmops replied to stan's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
How many poles are there on the plug? I'm asking because the p66 is sold with different type plugs dependent on the machine that it is used with -
Seeing that fishing for browns in spring is mostly flat lining, makes me wonder what a square noisy line like fleaflicker will do . Is it not much better to use 10 or 12 pound regular line which is less visible and less noisy than dragging a flea flicker grand orchestra line over the brown's head?

I use nice light 18 pound test Cortland

How about our own locally produced Cortland leadcore?

I would turn the question around. How small a kicker. At low speed your boat becomes a displacement hull and for instance a 23 foot boat will not go faster than 8 miles an hour. Those 8 miles can easily be provided by 7 .5 or 6 horse engines, while a 15 horse will not make you go any faster, but just make you burn more fuel. Just make sure that your kicker is strong enough to get you back into port in adverse situations with a broke down main engine.

electrolysis and fishing, setting up your boat!
rolmops replied to fieromx3's topic in This Old Boat
My shade tree electrician skills tell me that water is just about the best ground available, which in my humble opinion means that any thing that is conductive will be completely neutral relative to the fresh water around it. This is a different story with salt which has a much stronger ionic charge and will react strongly to anything it can react with. Anodes are a necessity in salt water ,but in fresh water much less so,for the same above mentioned reason. If you want to troll Lake Ontario and you want to set up your boat the right way,you would be much better off by investing in electric down riggers than in the black box. -
LOC derby format changes poll
rolmops replied to GAMBLER's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Why should lake char be called trout?? Just kidding. If we want to promote lake Ontario, we should not do it too selectively and any of the trout and salmon should be part of the game. As for getting rid of the daily prizes and go for a bigger final pot? Now that would be plain stupid. Many people come to fish for only one or 2 times and they pay into the derby because they have a decent chance to win something. If the daily prizes go away these people will probably still come fishing but they certainly will not buy a LOC derby ticket just to fatten the pot for the very few (professional??) daily fishermen. What about charging a daily fee for each day you go fishing? Now that would fatten the pot for the very few daily fishermen and at the same time put them on the same financial level playing field as the one time fisherman. That probably would not be quite so popular. As for increasing the fees in order to get a bigger prize.Again under the current rules this would mostly benefit the small group of daily fishermen. Most people come for an adventure and some fun. They bring a lot of money to the charters, the tackle shops and the local eateries. We should concentrate on bringing lots of fun loving fishermen who will come back later in the season to fish some more and bring their families to pick some fruit and buy stuff in the road stands, amish or otherwise. For the hardcore gambling fisherman there is the Pro-Am and the casino down the road. Cornelis. -
Wanted Captan chair/ pedistal seat
rolmops replied to bandrus1's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
It looks nice and the price is right, but at least in my opinion, this is the sort of thing that you must see with your eyes and feel with your hands. The picture may be a lot nicer than the product -

If you are anywhere close to Rochester/ Brighton you may want to drop in and see what I have. -
Going through the different reports about what fish are good to eat and where they are from, I chanced upon a recommendation from the NY officials encouraging people to eat up to 4 meals of fish monthly from Lake Erie. My guess is that Lake Ontario may not be far behind. It seems that Lake Erie had all its water replaced with fresher and cleaner water, but this will take longer in Lake Ontario because of its much larger volume.

If there are no elevated toxins found then it will be good news for us all. If you want to try and boycot this study because it is"scammy and agenda filled" then you should ask yourself whether you too have an agenda.

Sorry for being less than precise in using correct terminology. By slip I meant drag. As far as leader length is concerned, it should be longer (I prefer longer) or shorter than the rod. You do not want the swivel/knot to be on or near the guides of your rod when you bring the fish to the net
-
I would use small ball bearing swivels. If you use fluorocarbon, you should keep in mind that it has no stretch at all and you should set your slip accordingly
-
I use them. Michele at Captains Cove in Oak Orchard sells them.

Airmar Thru-Hull Transducer
rolmops replied to PennYan20's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You can go with the B60 which is the same as a P66 but going through hull and tilted or with 2 ducers, one a 50 KHz and the other a 200. If you want a lot of very good info go here. http://www.thehulltruth.com/parts-fo...ml#post5162566 At the bottom of this page you will find the phone # of Gil Travis. An ex-marine who not only sells these transducers probably the cheapest in the USA, but if you give him a call,he will also give you good advice on what is best for your boat. -

Planar Board Mast Height?
rolmops replied to Peterz's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
If your mast is deep enough inside or around the base you should not need it. About running only one board, not a good idea it will pull your boat towards the planer board side a lot stronger than you would expect. -
The best places to catch fish is on the "edges" and these edges are not always on the bottom. It is where under water currents meet and speed and temperature change all the time. A TD will never tell you where that happens, an X4 always will.
