  1. In my old carburetor car I used to adjust the jet needles a bit when going to a higher octane. Maybe you have to change to a different jet if your engine has fuel injection.
  2. About better mileage. Right now 90% of your fuel is straight gas and 10% is ethanol. Ethanol, although it is a much higher octane, has only about 66% of the energy that regular gas has. The 10% ethanol has only about 2/3s the energy that straight fuel provides. So it boils down to 90% energy of straight gas and in addition 6.6% energy from ethanol, which together makes for 96.6% of the energy that 100% straight gas would provide. So yes by all means put straight gas in your boat, because of the water in the tank problems that ethanol may cause. It is however way more expensive to run straight gas in your car and you only get about 3.4% more energy.
  3. Then why is it that I find myself running from Rochester to either Mexico Bay for the browns or the Oak for for everything else.I know that it is not for Michele's beautiful eyes or Fat Nancy's love handles.
  4. In Pittsford (next to Rochester) just east of the R&R tracks they sell both 87 and 91 in pure form, lol. they do not sell ethanol mix there at all!
  5. Chicken wing (SHCW) and KFC Special (SH212) both stingers, did very nice for me in the past few weeks, specially because these lures are not only great brown lures but they also attract kings and steelies.
  6. I don't think that bull shark can run up the rapids in the Saint Laurence, but what about 5 or maybe even 8 foot long sturgeon?
  7. YES! my brown stayed inside the first 20 of the LOC standings. At 15.8 at the boat and 15.01 at the weigh station 7 hours later, I thought she was in first place and kept her in the freezer for 3 days, but she really was 4th on June 23th when I caught her. But as such things happen, bigger and bigger fish were caught and she ended up in 15th place. This fish could only have been caught with the supportive coaching of the "Horsing Around" team members and the prize money will be donated straight into the fuel tank of "The Lead Sled" as Lou lovingly calls his fuel thirsty Penn Yan tunnel drive rig. But what do I do next? Do I have to call the LOC people, or do they just send the check in the mail? LOC people, our fuel tank needs you! Please tell me what do next. Respectfully,Cornelis. PS, Jerry Felluca congrats on your big winner Salmon.A true monster! But nothing less could be expected from a man whose family name implies that his ancestors sailed a sail boat that plied the River Nile from before we started counting time.
  8. How about you buy some second hand riggers until you have more funds available for what you really want and use the saved money for a good probe which is reallywhat helps you once you have your gear down there. As for rods, the $20/25 eagle claw rods also catch plenty of fish.
  9. In 2007 the economy started tanking and along with it participation in the Pro-Am.On top of that, the gas prices went bananas. If money is tight people redirect it away from hobbies towards family needs, not sports events. Last winter at least one participating boat (a Grady White)was sold for less then half its value because of financial hardship caused by the weak economy. The Pro-Am organizers responded by hiking the entrance fees for the already financially hard hit amateurs and (as a consolation) by changing the way the prize money was divided. How about we go back to the old format of 3 classes with reduced entrance fees for amateurs. This will increase the number of boats participating and because of that the prize money will increase accordingly. With increased participation there will be a better opportunity for big time sponsors to advertize their product and although we may not get as famous as the Bass Master tournaments we will get more media coverage. In a nut shell: 100 boats on the water in a tournament will attract media coverage. 27 boats (Oswego Pro-Am) hardly make a ripple in the water. Respectfully,Rolmops.
  10. Welcome to the board. Between 40 and 80 feet. Thanks to a captain who likes to horse around we found a few small patches of great water.
  11. Tom did you ever consider taking up photography as a profession?
  12. Please teach me how to get 6 hits and boat 9. Did they puke out little ones?

  14. If you blow the picture up big enough you can see both the single and the treble hook outside the mouth. Besides, that bugger would have bled I vote for photo shop
  15. I think that in Pulaski, Fat Nancy and the other tackle store across the road and a few houses down (south) are open until 9 in the evening. In Watertown in the mall, Gander mountain and the Dick's sporting goods shop are about 50 yards apart. between the 2 of them you should be able to get all your suplies
  16. Praying Mantis is capable of running at 57mph. Just hold on and pray.
  17. 9. All participants shall present their Tournament tickets when weighing in their fish. NO EXCEPTIONS. All entries must be at the weight station no later that 3:00PM. A participant may weigh-in fish in other derbies depending on other derby/tournament rules and regulations. Do all members of a team on a boat have to buy a ticket or is it one participation fee for a team?
  18. It my feeling that there was nothing wrong with the original setup of the pro-am. The economy went down the drain and that started in 2007. The pro-ams suffered a hard blow because of it. It is however very bad policy to make it more expensive when the economy is bad and yet hope for more participation. If the cost would have been lowered with lower winnings, there probably would have been a lot more teams who would have happily competed in the original setup. It is never a good idea to make things more expensive and thereby more exclusive when money is tight. On another note, I just reread my original post and quite frankly, it smells of poor sportsmanship. I would like to apologize if I hurt any ones feelings because most of my comments were uncalled for.
  19. No, only 27 that were in the Pro-Am. One had to drop out. The Oswego Pro-Am was fun but the odds were stacked in favor of the the teams with the big fast boats. On Saturday many of them raced off to fish in front of Sodus and they got their 12 fish limit and raced back. The smaller and slower boats could not make that trip and as a result they ended in the bottom field. Sunday was hard for everybody, but again the teams with the most advanced electronics could go searching for fish at a relatively high speed. Yes, participation was fun,but I got away with the feeling this new setup is stacked against the weekend warriors. Noting that only 28 teams signed up, shows that a lot of last year's participants voted with their feet. It is also interesting that a few weeks ago we got an e-mail informing us about the price money based on forty participating teams, while never mentioning the actual number of participants at the time. I think that next year we will also vote with our feet.
  20. If you have the possibility of taking a through hull then that is the way to go.The p66 is ok but only ok, not great.
  21. sorry double post
  22. "The cleanest fish as far as pollutants is supposedly tuna" That was before they checked on mercury. Now according to the Sierra Club magazine it is the fish with the highest mercury content,so high that daily consumption of tuna actually causes mercury poisoning. The DEC has very clear advice concerning the consumption of fish out of Lake Ontario,as does its Canadian counterpart. These 2 agencies are the only ones around that do research to back up their advice. All the other comments here are opinion based. I will stick to research backed advice.
  23. They have been around for a long time now, but their spawn has a very low survival rate. This is because they do not have very good camouflage coloring.
  24. According to a bulletin sent out by Evinrude in 1964, every engine built from 1963 on has needle bearings and can be run run with a 1:50 mix. That is, if you use TCW-3 two stroke oil. Any Evinrude/Johnson engine up to 5.5 horse had bushings until 1978 and those engines must be run with a 1:24 mix. Hope this helps.
