Determining your trolling speed.
rolmops replied to Wrestling Coach's topic in Tackle and Techniques
The perfect trolling speed measurements are made at the depth that your lure is at. There are many underwater currents. Heck your lure may lay still in the water or move at 4 MPH while your gps says 3MPH and your finshfinder paddle says 1MPH and both are correct. The only way to properly measure trolling speed is at the ball. Bite the bullet and buy a fish hawk X4 -
I hopped on E-Bay where I picked up a few Penn 330s,320s and 310s. The 330s have 10 colors, the 320s 8 colors and the 310s are loaded with 6 colors. The Penn 320 can hold 10 colors of 18 pound lead core. All reels have three hundred feet of power pro backing.

Torpedo 19 strand wire
rolmops replied to SoSaarie's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The Torpedo guys are coming to LOTSA. They can answer your questions. Last year I had a problem with some 7 strand 30 pound line. I called them and they sent me a replacement roll. They did the same for WWIV I will buy and try some 19 strand this year because these guys believe in their product and they are way cheaper than the competition. -
CARHARTT insulated polar version.Keeps you warm and dry. Last year in April I waded for a mile often up to my belly pulling my boat behind me in Owasco Lake to a ramp at the bottom of Scipio Center road. My Carhartts allowed the water in but it also kept me warm.

You had better be sure because Garmin has 2 different lake Ontario maps. One is from their "U. S. Recreational lakes with Fishing Hot spots East v5" which is all the Eastern US up to Chicago without the east coast line and with only the eastern half of Lake Ontario (Just west of Rochester is as far as it goes) although it does have the Finger Lakes. The other is from Blue Chart and it has all of Lake Ontario. The 2 maps do not mesh together very well.

You can download Garmin maps from their website into your computer. These are the same maps that you would get on a cartridge. Next you can download these maps from your computer onto a cartridge and take it fishing. You can also take your garmin cartridge with all the routes and markings that you put on it while you were on the water and download it onto the map you have on your computer. In short, you can plan your trip on the computer, download it onto your cartridge and take your computer planned trip.

It depends on your speed and what lure you pull. The 18 pound stuff does go deeper than the 27 pound test, mostly because it has the same amount of lead per yard (grains of lead as they call it)as the 27 pound test while it has a noticable smaller diameter. I would go for 60 feet for the full 10 colors.

There is a trim tab right behind your prop that is adjustable. It looks like a little rudder and there is only one bolt that holds it. Loosen that bolt a bit and turn that trim tab a bit to the right, then tighten the bolt again. That should help her to go straight

The Whale tail as you call it is just fine and it is not your problem. It may be your propeller or the way you divide the weight in your boat. As for the propeller, it may be too worn or too damaged or just plain the wrong size for you your rig as you have set it up. You must check the owners manual on your engine and find what the ideal rpm is for your engine. Then compare your real time rpm to what it is supposed to be. Another thing that may help is "trim tabs" these adjustable tabs will help you get up on plane faster. Then there is the weight thing. Make sure you do not have water soaked foam under your boards. this can add hundreds and hundreds of pounds of dead weight to your boat. There are a lot of other factors, but this is a start.

It is the 85% ethanol that has only about 66% of the energy that pure gas gives. If you go to fill up with 85% you will also find that it is about 30% cheaper than the regular 10 % ethanol mix. The only people that like ethanol fuel are the corn farmers and processors. You will be hard pressed to find even one politician left or right who likes this ethanol thing. What they do like is getting re-elected and messing with the mid western farmers lobby is political suicide for any politician and that is why the ethanol scam is still there. And Vince no matter how much you dislike our current administration, they did not start it, nor do they want to continue it. Our previous president encouraged it, but also he figured out that it's a hoax, that's why he started talking about switch grass ethanol. Although I am sure that Rush Limbo will accuse Obama of being guilty no matter what. ( he has advertizement to sell) I don't really understand why the farmers are so gungho about it, if the ethanol thing goes away they will get subsidies for leaving their acrage laying fallow. Cornelis.

Today I was told by someone that instead of paying for something,it would make him happier if I take a kid fishing. I do this a few times a year and often I invite the father along as well Anyway, the smile on the kids face is just about the best way you can get paid back. Here is one of those smiles.

Do you mean that it is running at a very high RPM? Or is it a short shaft (15 inch) hanging of a 20 inch stern with the prop just a bit out of the water?
-
I do not know the maps that you talk about, but if any of them have the possibility of download into your computer, you will have the ability to use them for a computerized log and in addition you will be able to plan a trip at home and download it onto your chart plotter..

If you are running a Johnson/Evinrude in the 35 to 50 horse range (not commercial)and you run a lot at sustained high speed you want to try a 78 instead of a 77.

I did some searching on the net and came up with this result. http://boatfishing.co.za/viewtopic.php? ... 1364#p1364 It makes me consider this fish finder for my boat. It might just be my ticket.
