  1. Try this: http://www.chow.com/food-news/53993/pin-bone-wizard/ Or if you are so inclined,
  2. On Stellwagen Bank when we go jigging for either cod or haddock we only use super braids. Usually with 16 ounce jigs.Even at 300 feet down, the super braids transfer even the slightest bite to your rod tip. Super braids are very thin which allows you to use a lighter jig. In my opinion they are the best line for jigging
  3. Right now he is letting lobby money doing the talking.
  4. Me thinks that Pike Hunter and me will catch a 44 pounder this Sunday Morning. So why don't you guys just come to Sutters Marine Sunday afternoon to cheer as we pull in with at least one derby winning fish!!
  5. Red line and red hooks were advertised as the next great invention. Then In-fisherman magazine ran a lot of tests with bass, using different colors of line and hooks. What they found out is that the color red, which is the first color to dissappear under water turns black after only a few feet under water. So black and not invisible as advertised. They made pictures of what it looks like under water and black hooks and line were clearly visible not only to man's eyes ,but also to fish eyes until it reaches the depth where black becomes invisible. The overall catch results were no better than regular mono and much worse than fluorocarbon. In short, red is no better than other colors and does not catch more fish.It does catch a lot of human suckers.
  6. I doubt it.The legislators are refraining from taking a stand because with the upcoming elections they do not want to be branded as anti-anything.They want to seem pro-progress and nature conserving, yet at the same time they want the lobby money coming from Kessel and his friends. So they will not take a stand against anything that might be construed as anti-anything. Remember the notice:"Politicians are like baby diapers, they need to be changed often and for the same reason"
  7. Glen, What are the 3 numbers 1 all about? Did you get another boat? I never knew that chumming works in fresh water, can you write a bit more about that? As for how do I clean. Sometimes at home with offal in a bag in the freezer until garbage day or forgotten in the freezer for a few weeks. When out in Cape Cod Bay or Stellwagen Bank.I always bring my vacuum packer and a 12 to 120 volt power inverter along in the boat. The fish is cleaned ,rinsed, vacuum packed and put in a cooler with dry ice all while still on the water. Cornelis.
  8. I have a fish hawk X4 and I like it,but when I was on the Spoonfed rig I saw his setup,I think it is a Sub troll and I must admit that it is as good as the hawk with a higher adjustment rate.I asked Glen about the wire connection and he simply told me that like everything else it needs the proper maintenance.Seeing the competition results of the Spoonfed this year,I believe that Glen made the right choice with his Sub Troll. Cornelis.
  9. Maybe you guys should try to use the stinking rich,NO screaming, job exporting, fat cat lure.Remember that it is all sugar coated with empty promises and that it is made for catching your vote and letting you rot.
  10. Lead core is usually quite thick.(the core and the braid around it).Besides 18 and 27 pound test lead core usually have the same amount of lead grain per foot. This makes the 27 pound very bulky but not very heavy. It will not sink very well. I often use 18 pound test lead core to troll live bait (mooneyes) very slowly for lake trout in the Finger lakes.

    Bad Gas?

As always, check the cheap problems first. You have no problem starting or running at idle and low rpm.So that part of your carburetor is clean and you get enough fuel. Now unscrew the high speed fuel jet.(the one on the carburetor bowl),drain the fuel in the bowl and make sure that the jet and the bowl are clean. Now disconnect the line that goes from the pump to the carbs.Pull the plug wires and pump the ball.Fuel should stream out. If not ,you have localized your problem. Now run the starter.Fuel should come spurting out of the pump .If not, your diaphragm is bad or you have dirt in the filters. You can do all these things at home in your drive way and depending on the results of these little trouble shooter tests you can determine where your problem is located If you are on the water and it happens again, push the starter key in.This will activate the fuel enrichener. If that helps you know that your problem is not bad fuel but fuel supply. If nothing is wrong with the fuel or the fuel supply,it is time to look at the electronics. Good Luck, Cornelis
  12. A Penn 330 GTI with line counter. It does not get better.
  13. Yep, a bowfin skeleton
  14. I'll take the otter boards. You can reach me at 585-733-2728. Thank you,Cornelis.
  15. The satellite is google earth. I zoomed in on my house as well and in the back yard there are 2 boats that I sold 3 years ago
  16. I spent a weekend at our cottage on Owasco Lake and did some Lake trout fishing off Ensenore point. Both days were very windy but almost every time I passed around the point I caught another laker. It must have been around 30 or 40.They were mostly around 3 to 4 pound except for one that I pulled out of 150 feet of water a bit farther from the point. That one was about 7 pounds. Owasco lake is a lot easier to deal with in 20 mph winds.the waves were very short but they were only about 1.5 footers.
  17. Are there any homeless people in your neighborhood?
  18. In today's D&C there is a front page article about Power authority not obeying a freedom of Information request by the newspaper. It seems that the Power authority is trying to get in through the back door,by denying information to the tax payers who pay their salary. Maybe the time has come to publicly question the justification of existence of the power authority.
  19. I would go for Keuka Lake. The reasons are simple.Keuka has no Lampreys and I have yet to see a weed mat. There is a very good launch in Penn Yan and the Bait store (The Beverage Baron)has plenty of mooneyes, but do ask him how to keep them alive. You can start fishing about where the College is,From there on south is all plenty deep.
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Rolmops ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/8 Time on Water:0.700-16.00 Weather/Temp:nice weather in the seventies Wind Speed/Direction:South,early on around 10 freshening to 15,in the afternoon South -west easing up to around 7 Waves: 2/4 Surface Temp: 71.5 Location:North/North-east of Russel LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:Kings Hot Lure: Green Spinny/green crinkle fly Trolling Speed: 1.4-3.4 Down Speed: 2.3-3.1 Boat Depth: 110-160 Lure Depth: 65/95 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== It was very easy going out with a Southern wind, and running out to 100 feet was no sweat,Thank you Blue Heron for the tip. Once out there it was a challenge to keep two riggers in the water not because of the fish but because of the waves and fishing solo. But Something is happening out there.Around 120 to 130 feet in 44 degree water there are huge bait pods accompanied by huge schools of small and big fish. They are spread out between 90 to 125 fow and rock solid.I tried with wonder bread but no go,with NBK both super slim and regular but no go until I put a green spinny with herring bone pattern and a green crinkle fly on the 95 and that one did all the damage. The ones caught were all between 5 and 15 pounds. The one that got away almost took 600 feet of copper with him.I had 600 feet out with a single Kevorkian and the hit on that one was very fast and furious It took 200 feet of backing out and while trying to get some back it threw the lure. It got to be a lot easier to fish as the wind turned south-west and eased up quite a bit but by then the action had died. I think that I need a steady fishing partner, that would make things a lot easier. How about it Mr Kremer 01? Cornelis.
  21. I run the 8'6" Eagle Claws for my downrigger rods and absolutely LOVE them. Never thought of using them for copper. Hmmm, got me thinking now..... I use them with 600 feet copper on a Penn 330GTI (great reels),but the tips are soft and I had to change them to carboloid tips
  22. What happens in Lake Ontario is in no way comparable to what happens in small lakes. When Honeoye Lake "turns over" it is pretty much the entire lake changing its surface with water from the bottom which is maybe a degree or 2 warmer. Lake Ontario mostly has movement of water and the wind and currents move huge masses of water with different temperatures around. One day with northern winds it may be 75 degrees on the southern shores, but when the wind turns south that water temperature can drop to 46.
  23. I use some of their gear and in general I am happy with it. There are a few problems though. Their Blue Chart map of Lake Ontario has a conflict with their US recreational map of Lake Ontario,They just don't fit each other right. Also,Many of their map source products don't have the proper drivers for a 64 bit computer and you are forced to keep an old computer in the basement so you can use map source CDs and transfer them to your GPS. Cornelis.
  24. Last time I fished there I spent most of my time staying clear of jet fleas and other boats. This time of year that place is wall to wall boaters.
  25. I bought one when I mostly fished the Finger Lakes and it was great while fishing the steep drop offs.On Lake Ontario I tried it for a while hoping to find fish off to the sides and then steering so the lines off the planer boards run through them, but it is very hard to gauge the distance without back ground structure to go by.
