  1. Not exactly on top. Here is a website which very precisely describes how to attach the kicker bracket to the transom. In my case as in yours the #10 picture shows very clearly what it looks like. The website will show you step by step how to install the bracket for your kicker. http://www.garelick.com/files/12.185.pdf Getting inside those walls is simple.you should be able to get to them from inside the boat from the side of the tank.If you have plastic fuel tanks, just pull them over to the side. Hope this helps.
  2. This steelhead stuff is very good news. Thanks.
  3. My 1984 Sylvan has a very similar transom. The way I solved the problem was by using a Garelick transom bracket installed on the higher left side.(The left side because the remote cables of the kicker come out the kicker's right side). The kicker ended up about 12 inches away from the transom when lowered.I had to use a long shaft because the movement of the waves will often lift the lower unit out of the waves. With a long shaft that problem is solved. Steering should be done using an EZ steering bracket The result of my kicker experiment is that I now have what is probably the only long shaft remote controlled 1964 9.5 horse Evinrude on this side of the Mississippi.
  4. Don't forget the Champagne bottle when you name your boat. May she bring you fish, happiness and joy.
  5. Bruce is right. To read about it is nice but going out with with a guy like Bruce, will teach you a great deal more. I went out on his charter and I had a blast.
  6. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):4/4 Time on Water:08.00-11.30 Weather/Temp:nice,high sixties Wind Speed/Direction:very light winds Waves: less than a foot Surface Temp:40/41 Location:Ship Builders LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:3 Species Breakdown:browns Hot Lure: rapala 9/orange dream weaver super slim Trolling Speed: 1.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 12/35 feet Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS It was a very nice day to try out my new home built planer boards and tower. the fish were stacked around the creek outlet between 12 and 20 feet. So all I did was experiment with the new boards. This time using lead core. The first hit came at 25 feet outside of the bay outlet on a dreamweaver .It taught me that six pound test leader is not strong enough for what is out there. The second hit was in the same area on the other line within a minute of the first one with the same result. I feel bad about fish with lures hanging out of their mouth because of my poor decisions. Out at ship builders I had changed everything over to 17 pound test and, after going back and forth, three decent but by no means big browns were caught and released. All in all a very pleasant morning in T shirt weather on the lake. It seems that the water level is about 2 feet lower than it was last year at this time. ====================
  7. This new law has nothing to do with drunken summer boaters. It is in our own interest because it enables us to survive in very cold water for better than 2 hours, while without a PFD your chances of surviving in very cold water for better than 15 minutes are slim. It may sound strange, but this law is good for you.
  8. I have never had a problem launching on the south end. The launch is steeper than the state launch on the north end,but the water is always full of weed and ,unless you stay in the channel, quite shallow.
  9. The New York State Assembly has rejected the proposal to close the New York State parks. It seems that we will have all of our launches open this year.
  10. Just today I read in the paper (DnC) that NY state senators came up with a plan to open all the parks anyway. In election years they want your vote, not your wrath.
  11. He will not go back on his word. He will just have somebody else do what he wanted to do all along..
  12. West Marine has the 2 and 3 way valves that you are looking for. They cost about $20. The problem with hooking up to the water separator is the absence of a check valve. There should be a good working one on the quick connectors, but they often are less than reliable. I tried with the separator hookup and got a lot of trouble.Once you have that 2 or 3 way valve in your setup you just turn a handle and you have prevented any air from sneaking into your fuel system. Make sure that your kicker uses the same fuel as your main engine.
  13. If the Force was a mid eighties, shortly after Chrysler sold out to Bayliner, it would be a toss up between 2 equally good engines.Anything 1990 and up with the name force on it is best compared to trying to give your boat cancer. The only time that I would choose Force over Johnson, would be when the Johnson is a 1999 Ficht which is even worse than a 1996 Force.
  14. I am not sure that this "dipsy rod" would count as a fishing rod.It has no hooks attached to the line and as such you are not fishing with this rod. I do think that 2 lines that close together could cause a lot of knots and aggravation.
  15. It turned out to be quite simple. By using a 4 inch long 1 1/4 inch nipple,a 4 inch long 1 inch nipple,a 1 1/4 inch flange and a 1 inch to 3/4 inch reducer coupling. It is really nice that the reducer coupling sits right on top of the 1 1/4 nipple. That makes things a lot easier. The pictures speak for themselves.
  16. It probably would, but it would also have the potential of damaging my cover canvas. I am considering using the same base plate but, instead of a bushing, just screw in a 3 or 4 inch long 1 or 1 1/4 diameter pipe that sticks about 2 inches out above the base with a hole drilled through the pipe about 1/2 an inch below the top and also drilling a hole through the mast base so I can just drop the mast in the larger pipe and shove a pin through the holes thereby preventing it from turning and /or falling out.I would put a cap at the bottom of the larger diameter pipe. I would of course have to thread at least 3 inches of pipe to make that one work. It is a process in motion and it will probably see some more changes.
  17. Here are a few pictures of my planer mast.I made it using 3/4 inch galvanized tubing from home depot and the reels are from some very old riviera down riggers. The overall cost was roughly $35.The reason why I made the base the way I did is because the tower will sit on the bow and the base will be attached to some metal there.I will have to screw it into the base every time I use it.
  18. Thank you, rolmops
  19. Is the eastern arm of Keuka lake open yet? Is it possible to use the Penn Yan launch or are there ice flows coming down the river? Thank you,Cornelis.
  20. They found a very good way to treat IPN in 2006.Follow this link: http://www.spaquaculture.com/default.aspx?pageid=657
  21. If that was aimed at me,you must have completely misunderstood me
  22. I love rubber bands, but I never knew which size to pick.Usually it is whatever the mail man uses to bundle my letters.I will go and buy the #16 size. Is the #16 also used at the down rigger? As for lake pollution,I find that usually the broken band stays attached to the fishing line and can be put in your on board garbage bag.
  23. Whenever I replace a steering cable I tape(I mean very seriously tape)the new one onto the back of the old one so while the old one comes out the new fills up the empty space. It makes things very easy. But if you want to do it for other reasons, the tillers are available.Go to: http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/ou ... bigtiller/
  24. I use 20 colors on a daiwa accudepth 57.I do this because I do a lot of lake trout fishing in Keuka and Owasco Lake, while trolling live bait (hook setup as if it is a spoon)This can be done at very low speeds (1.3-1.5) and with 12 colors I can go down to 90 feet,14 colors give over a hundred. Often when I see fish at 200 feet down I just cut the engine and allow the bait to flutter down.It gets them every time.
  25. You seem to forget that Ms Obama is not an elected representative of any sort and as such she does not have authority to govern anything, not even the Pier.
