Gun Show Friday Dec , 2019
rolmops replied to tuffishooker's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Seeing that this is in Canada, but minutes away from the US, how does one get a new bought gun across the border and what is the paper work involved? -
That is true until the one time that you forget to raise it before you take off and you subsequently ruin it. I think that a 16 footer that trolls should have a little kicker, not bags or trollplates

I-Boats has a lot of very good cover sales going on now. As for me, I'm a firm believer in tarps.

Yesterday I was given a big slab of Russian style cured salmon. It’s better than any smoked salmon than I have ever eaten. Does anyone here cure their salmon instead of smoking it? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

It depends on the distance between the battery and the starter and if you have a solenoid in the system. A 9.9 starter does not draw a lot of power, so 4 or 6 gauge is probably overdoing it a lot, but your best information is available in the service manual of your specific model. I would google up the service manual of the specific model and check out the specs. There are other things to consider as well like what sort of wire, single or multi stranded. Multi stranded is a lot more flexible. Anyway, according to Mercury, for outboards from 6 to 10 hp ,a maximum 9 foot length needs 8 gauge and 4 to 5 feet works with 10 gauge. 10 foot would be 6 gauge.

The guy at Fish307 told me that the motor on the mag 15 is very powerful and very often if you try to stop it by pushing down on the button for just a split second you will not have stopped the momentum and the motor will come right back on the moment you release the button and it will continue going up. His advice is to hold the the button down for the time that it will take you to say "one two" fairly quick (half a second?). that should stop the motor without starting it downward again. He also told me not to use a dedicated battery because a closed circuit away from the boat engine /ground will neutralize the positive ion stop.

A few years ago, I purchased a set of Mag 15 downriggers on e-bay which according to the seller had been refurbished. I have been using them ever since, but there is this strange thing that happens to both the riggers. When I try to adjust depth by raising the rigger a few feet, They just keep on coming up and the only way to stop this is by switching to down again. There does not seem to be any way to stop the rigger from going up except by switching it to going down and then stopping it. Is this the case with all mag 15s or do I have a circuit board problem? Thank you for any help or advice you can offer. Cornelis

Regulation change to steelhead limit on Lake Ontario
rolmops replied to reelxite's topic in Open Lake Discussion
To start, I never said that your fisherman's opinion has no merit. Yes these are fishing regulation changes, but as part of a much greater whole and not exclusively for fishing management. There is a difference between trusting one opinion more than another as opposed to claiming to distrust the individual behind the opinion, although -agreed- with politicians there are way too many other purposes. And last I do believe us to be on the same side in this case ,which really is the well being and future of the lake, our differences lay in the method ,not the goal. -

I trust the DEC because they have the well being of the lake as their purpose. They try to create a healthy environment, while you want them to create an environment that is geared toward fishing. A healthy environment is about much more than fishing. That is why I claim that you have an ulterior purpose. As for shrapnel, If you ever tasted the real stuff you would not use it to compare our innocent differences of opinion. -

Regulation change to steelhead limit on Lake Ontario
rolmops replied to reelxite's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I honestly trust the DEC a lot more than I trust an opinion from a financially interested party. If socialism has to be dragged into a discussion about creel limits, it becomes very obvious to me that the writer has at least one ulterior purpose. -

2 does not seem much, but most open water fishing is done with 2 or 3 fishermen per boat and charter fishing is often 6. We really are talking about 6 steelhead instead of 9 we should approach it as such. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
