  1. Just to put things in perspective, google “ Montreal flooding “ Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I have the info from a coast guard officer. I just very much hope that he got it right. According to him the water level by the beginning of July should be 4 inches below where it is now Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. The Ottawa river is going down, so now they have room for lake water. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. At least Sandy is officially closed. Yesterday I called Mayers Marina on I-Bay to ask if their launch was open and they said yes. So today I towed my boat to the marina only to find the place flooded without proper markings as to where the launch might be under all that water. So back home I went. It is a sad situation.
  5. Thanks for the answer, Vince. By the looks of it Wrights Landing will not be open until the beginning of August. Let's hope that the Pro-Am people come up with an answer soon, or I will cancel my room reservation and forgo participating in the Oswego Pro-Am. The only thing to blame is weather and I hope that there will be a solution, a later date maybe.
  6. The best way to go straight is by using 2 planer boards one on each side ( I use otter boats). The farther away from the boat the better, but even when they are only 10 feet away they will create equal resistance on each side and keep your rig from wandering
  7. the outlet of Lake Eerie is neither controlled nor constant. If the level of the Niagara river goes down because of an additional outlet, more water will come in from Lake eerie to make up for the difference
  8. It is important to get an answer soon, so people who reserved hotel rooms in and around Oswego will have a chance to cancel their reservations before they are stuck with rooms to pay ,but no Pro-Am to fish
  9. I am not so sure about that. A bucket with three holes empties out faster than a bucket with 2 holes....The same goes here. The tunnel opening will probably increase the current speed in the upper river just a bit. There will not be any less water going over the falls or through the turbines. The tunnel is just an additional path for the water to take and there is no way to control the amount of water that enters the river on the Eerie side
  10. I have an MMSI #. It helps if your boat has a name , for communication on the radio. It is more important to have your GPS hooked into your radio. When you push the emergency button on your radio it will broadcast your co-ordinates.
  11. This is a six year old thread
  12. The knot shown on the video does have a size problem, but that can be solved. The loop opens up because the shrink tubing expands under the pressure of the loop trying to open up. If you use a sleeve connector in addition to the shrink tubing and slide the connector all the way forward, you can make the loop very small. You will need to give the sleeve just enough of a pinch so it does not slide. move the shrink tubing over it or up to it and you are in business. Another solution is wrapping the loop with very thin wire as far as you need in order to make the loop as small as you want it. But that would be hard to do on the boat.
  13. California and Texas went from severe drought to very wet. The mid west is under water and huge wind and rain storms are roaring from the west and the south. Climate change is here. If anyone is to blame, it is the policians who were warned about it, but for political purposes chose to deny what was obvious for years. Lake Ontario isn’t exempt. It is easy to blame Cuomo or the Great Lakes Consortium. The truth is that we have ourselves to blame. Think of climate change when you get to the voting booth Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  15. That would translate into one to two foot waves. Nothing to worry about. BUT Lake Ontario is unpredictable, so always be prepared for worse
  16. There is a kind of marine binoculars that are called "image stabilized binoculars". You zero in on what you want to see and push a button. This neutralizes the boat movement and your target will stay in view in spite of boat movement.
  17. Asking for a permit is a sure way not to get things done. I think that cormorants are as smart as crows if not more so. If they see a few of their kind hanging upside down from a roosting tree they may get the message . They will leave and with a little bit of luck they will move to the Canadian side of the lake where the French Canadians will see all their merde and turn them into dead birds.(just kidding)
  18. I have always used a bracket. The type that is a bar that rests with one side on the trailer and the other side supports the partially raised kicker. This prevents the kicker from bouncing around and damaging the transom. They are also called transom savers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I don’t think so. Once you get close enough, you will find out that they smell like rotten fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Is it possible to launch,or is there also a nasty current?
  21. They don’t have to swim very fast, just a bit faster than gobies is fast enough. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. As of Saturday morning, I-Bay was still open. It has floating docks. You will need boots to get to the docks. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. If you target lakers for catch and release, use barb-less hooks ,get your hands wet before you touch them and always support the fish when you take a pic, never have them hang vertical. Those are the things that count. A better idea is to not target the slimy poopers.
  24. I had a very similar problem with my Islander when I just bought it. And my first thought was "oh S..." now I have to drain the tank and replace all fuel. But if you stabilized your fuel last year, is should not have gone bad. Add to that that your son told you that he could not get the gas to burn. Stinky old gas will burn if you light it. I suspect that you are sucking water out of the tank into your filters and carburetor. The way to remove water out of the tank without having to completely drain it is as follows: Get a long hose that is long enough to go from the tank outlet through the transom drain hole to behind the boat and then another few feet. ( 3/4 inch garden hose will give you a nice tight fit around 3/8 inch fuel line). Connect this hose to the fuel outlet on the tank or slide it over the fuel line a few feet, but only if it is a tight fit. Raise the front end of the boat as high as you can so you get a a good angle going backward. This will allow all the water in the tank to concentrate in the rear bottom part of the tank. Get one or two five gallon containers . Create some vacuum at the end of the hose and allow the liquid to stream into the container.. A very clear hose will help you see when the water is finished and the fuel starts. after you are done with that try and start the engine again and see if it works now. If it does ,top of your tank with high octane fuel and some dry gas. It worked for me. Look at the good side of all these bad things that happened. At least you will not get a mouth full of gas when you suck on that hose, somebody else will. Tell your son not to smoke before , during and after. Good luck!
  25. So did it sit all winter with a half full tank? If so you have a water problem
