Fleas? What fleas? Not a single one. Just please clean your boat of crap from other lakes before you launch so the lake stays clean. I don't even bring my Ontario rig to Owasco , just so I don't bring in anything bad. It is great not to have to deal with gobies or lampreys. Zebra mussels are in it ,but quaqua mussels are not (yet). The small fingerlakes are becoming unique in their lack of invasive species. Please do not spoil them.

This Sunday morning I took the family pontoon boat from our cottage for a quick fishing trip. Armed with 300 and 200 weighted steel wire, but without any electronics whatsoever. I did not even know my speed. All I had to do was going to known honey holes and in barely 2 hours I ended up with 3 lakers 1 brown and 3 rainbows. I kept one nice 4 pound rainbow for lunch. It struck me that Lake Ontario tactics for lakers in Owasco do not work. Instead of very deep fishing, steep drop offs and land point extensions are the ticket. It was good to see that the rainbow and brown population has recovered to where it was 30 years ago.The lake does not have any lamprey, which does help a lot. It's fun not to have to worry too much about the waves and the weather and even more fun to catch a nice rainbow 100 yards off shore right in front of the cottage with my landlubber family staring in disbelief that such big fish even exist in the lake. They thought that rainbows only exist in Wegmans stores.

This is the perfect time to bring all those outdated flare cartridges for your flare gun. Usually one or two afore the bow make stupid boaters wake up to the fact that they should not mess with you. (Ha Ha, just joking)

We will probably have a few more brown trout in the creek, the bay and the lake. I wonder if they will get new stock in before the winter for next year's spring tournament.

Today the thermocline at 160 feet was at about 80 foot and as we went farther out it went down to 110. The fishing today was very poor. One 25 pounder 110 down over 280 feet, one 3 pound brown 50 feet down over 220 feet and one hitchhiker skippy was all we had to show for 8 hours of trolling from 150 foot out to 600 feet and back. Good luck tomorrow. -

Both the first and second amendment have lots of hotly debated opinions within the legal profession. In my observations the first amendment legal opinions are plentiful and differ wildly. The second amendment has about as many different opinions as the first. To me both are a can of worms, but 2 different cans of worms. I am not advocating anything because I really do not understand this free speech and gun rights issue. Mostly I am worried because this seems to be the beginning of a "Brave New World"

Your problem is with the screen scrolling speed. By the looks of it your speed is a 2 or a 4. If you slow it down to 1 or even 1/2 the marks will stop being long and thin. They will be nice and fat. To do this, short press the function key and the speed selection screen will show up. go 1/2 or even 1/4 . that will change the long lines to shorter ones . Do not press the function key a long time because then a different screen will pop up . Hawkeye's speed is a one -

If you are willing to travel a bit more you will make it to Wolcott. You will find Hank from L&M there. He is probably the best and most trustworthy marine engine mechanic on the east side of the lake. You can pm him on this board. his handle is L&M

How about a down rigger torpedo that has a propulsion system and a probe built in, thereby eliminating blow back and extra gear hanging overboard.

Hello Pap, You now as well as I do that curiosity killed the cat. Guns are not toys, but 3D printers are. Many curious people will want to try to make a gun ,for no other reason than to see if they can do it. The next step would be to try and see if they work. Probably without any criminal intent. I think that criminals would much rather own an illegal gun that they can trust to work when needed and not some amateur experiment toy. The problem about their illegality will pop up later when 3D printers will start producing high quality untraceable guns.
-
I have no idea why the government should sue the 3D companies. That sounds like a paranoid conspiracy idea to me. As for my comment on the NRA. It is pure financial analysis. If 3D guns gain a foothold, the production of guns will no longer be the province of a select few. This will endanger entrenched business interests. The same business interests that donate very large sums to the NRA.
-
So we went from 3D blue print legislation to the old and tired first amendment quarrel. Laws are enacted as tools to stop and punish criminals, not to pester law abiding citizens. Guns are for hunting and self defense or for sport. 3d guns will cause huge amounts of illegal weapons of very questionable quality. Just think at the amount of hands that will be blown off when those iffy guns explode. I very much doubt that the NRA likes this kind of gun production. It will endanger the financial well being of the big NRA donors, the weapons producing companies.

I have 300 foot of weighted steel with 1000 feet of 19 strand backing on a Penn 345. In addition I also run 2 200 feet weighted steel with 800 feet of 19 strand on Convector 45s with line counters. The sink rate of the 200 and 300 weighted steel continues into the 19 strand at the same rate. For example :200 feet of weighted steel takes you down to 40 feet with another 200 feet of 19 strand out you are at 80 feet down. That is why it is important to use a reel with a line counter. There are a few youtube videos about weighted steel. just google torpedo weighted steel. It shows you how easy it is to work with compared to copper.

I agree with John. I have stopped using copper altogether in favor of steel. Copper has the tendency toward creating big birds nests. Steel doesn’t. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

99% of the time I release them. Fishing tournaments participation makes that impossible.
