  1. I just tried the cat odor spray. so far so good
  2. And how much would you be willing to pay for original and good ideas?
  3. My wife opened my car door, smelled it, closed the door and told me to get rid of the stink. It really does smell fishy. Any suggestions on how to get rid of that smell? It's much too nice a car to be demoted to fish mobile status
  4. I usually run it off the boards one rod on each side using rubber bands on the 19 strand to hold it in the clips. when it is to rough to run boards I use one off the stern. When using flasher flies, I add another fifty feet of 19 strand to make up for increased resistance compared to lures
  5. I use a convector 45 with about 800 feet of 19 strand backing and the 200 weighted steel. The line counter is quite important because every hundred feet of 19 strand drops the lure another 20 feet. It fits on the convector without any problems.
  6. Thank you for this excellent explanation. You are absolutely right. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. A-TOM-MIK Challenge Rules & Entry Meeting: There will be a rules review meeting held each Friday at 6:00 prior to event date. A team representative should be present. The tournament's intent is to fish 1 day. Hours of competition are 5am to 1pm on Saturday, unless altered by the tournament committee for inclement weather. In the event of inclement weather, same schedule & times will resume on Sunday. -Teams may enter and exit from any port in Oswego or Cayuga County. -Team Structure: Teams are not limited to a maximum number of anglers. Allowable max number of rods will be based on 4 anglers (12 rods). If you fish fewer than four anglers you may only run the number of rods allowed by law (3 per angler). - Tournament fishing is limited to US waters. - Fishing in tributaries is prohibited. For the purpose of the tournament all harbors and rivers will be considered tributaries. - Radio Use: All participating boats must be equipped with an operational VHF radio. - Open communication will be in effect throughout the tournament. - Start and End Times: Teams will be allowed to leave their ports at any time and may start fishing at 5 A.M. End time is 1:00 P.M. All fish entered at weigh-in must be landed before 1:00 pm. Weigh-in: - Upon returning to port the cooler containing the day's catch must be immediately transported to the weigh-in site, Oswego Marina. Weigh-in starts at 12:00 P.M.. A team representative must be in line for weigh-in no later than 3:00 P.M. with catch. - At least one team member must remain with the days catch until surrendered to the Weigh-in committee. - All coolers must be marked with the team name. - All coolers will be considered sealed at the end of the day's fishing and handling of fish by anyone other than a tournament official is prohibited. - Coolers must arrive at the Pre-Check Station free of loose ice or water. Ice in cooler has to be bagged. The tournament committee strongly suggests opening the drain plug on the cooler prior to pre-check. - All coolers at the weigh-in must contain no more than six of the allowable Tournament species. Coolers with more than six will be disqualified. - Weighed in fish will be identified by hole punch in tail, after weight has been recorded. Scoring: (based on a 2 person limit) - Tournament limit shall be 6 fish, no Lake trout or Atlantic salmon allowed. - Minimum size for trout and salmon is 18 inches, except steelhead is 21 1/2. Certified measuring boards will be used at the weigh in site. Each fish will score 10 points. One point will be scored per pound of fish weighed. - If any fish submitted for weigh-in is found to be smaller than the minimum size established by the tournament, the undersized fish will be disallowed. In addition, 10 points plus 1 point per pound of the undersized fish will be deducted from the team's score. Liability: Every reasonable precaution will be taken by the Tournament Committee to protect persons and property during the contest. However, the Committee, its judges, sponsors, officers, directors or employees of the same will not be held responsible for the safety of persons or property participating in the tournament. They are the same as the Atom mik challenge rules, except for the meeting and Jefferson County is added to Oswego and Cayuga counties. (from Fairhaven to Sackets harbor
  8. After having read the LSR Shootout rules , it occurred to me that, according to the rules, I cannot go to a LOC derby weigh in station before weighing in my maybe 30 pound salmon at the Shootout scales. This can be the difference between biggest fish in the LOC Derby and second place. This is potentially a thousands of dollars difference. Can the rules be changed so we can first run and weigh our big fish at a LOC weigh in station?
  9. Hello Alex. Ontario is not Owasco..... We slipped for years in the Little Salmon. Although it is a nice place to slip, it is also a long trip to the grounds. Unless you are sure that the salmon has moved that far east, I would concentrate on Oswego. It has a great marina (Wrights Landing) with good docks and facilities such as toilets, and a fish cleaning station.
  10. That it one of my nightmares. I always ask my fishing partner to double check straps and plugs. While I always double check his part of the job. Even so, there still are F-ups with potential results like the one in the picture. I wonder if that guy will ever go boating again.
  11. At the boat expo, prices are as easily jacked up and presented as discount as any other place where potential buyers gather. At that price, you may want to look nation wide and not just tie yourself into one dealer.
  12. I have 2 older cannons that work well. You can have them for $250. Pm me so we can set up something. You can probably sell those Penns for $250 on E-Bay.
  13. I have 200 hundred weighted steel + 800 19 strand on a convector 45 with room to spare. It gives me the possibility to use the line counter which is important because the sinking rate of the 19 strand is the same as the weighted steel. Where 200 weighted steel gets you 40 feet down , every additional 50 feet of 19 strand will give you another 10 feet of depth. That's why I like the line counter.
  14. If you have an eastern wind, don't try to fish the west end. Go to the east end or Oswego instead. I like to run the trough of the waves down wind and fish less lines. Your main problem in rough weather is too many lines in the water.
  15. Thank you guys. Cornelis.
  16. Could somebody please put the amateur results on the board? Thank you, Cornelis.
  17. Yes misery likes company. I'm sorry to hear about your kicker, but ,if it makes you feel any better I'll share my bad luck with yours. Just last weekend started with me donating my I-phone to Owasco Lake and as if that was not enough I lost my tilly hat with $60 in the top in Owasco lake too. Next I went to Lake Ontario to hunt Salmon and the first thing to happen was the downrigger cable breaking and my x4 probe and torpedo slipping into the depths of that lake. I know, it's only money but it hurts.
  18. So yesterday, I tried several things with different types of torpedo wire. i used 7 strand, 19 strand and weighted steel. The 7 strand on the dipsies did load up with fleas, but it was easily removed. weighted steel stayed spotlessly clean. 19 strand used as backing for the weighted steel, stayed spotless. Next I tried 7 strand and 19 strand for the down riggers. The 7 strand did load up, but unlike mono it was easily removed. The 19 strand was kept on the rigger for almost an hour, and it did carry some fleas, but the fleas were very easily removed and never slowed the reeling in process. I used the wireline rods on the down riggers and this might be a factor. The difference between the 7 and the 19 is probably because the 19 is very smooth. I will be using 19 strand until this crazy flea problem goes away. We use rubber bands to connect to blacks.
  19. Hello Troutman. I am looking to buy 2 or 3 torpedoes. Please pm me so we can make arrangements.
  20. We had a terrible flea problem fishing out of Oswego. The fleas made our downrigger cables clog up and the mono became useless. After hand lining in some fish and loosing most of them in the flea F-ups we took out all our mono and started running just leadcore and weighted steel. The leadcore soon fouled up as well, but the weighted steel and the 19 strand torpedo stayed miraculously clean. Today I will strip the weighted steel off two rods and fish the downrigger rods with with just 19 strand torpedo wire and a few foot of leader material. I'll keep you guys informed.
  21. it may be alright for for some small stream fishing, but it is useless for the lake. Besides it is not even worth $10
  22. You should put your boat and trailer on a scale weigh it . Then compare the weight to the weight that is written on the factory plate in your boat. It may be that you have water logged flotation material which makes the boat very heavy. There is a reason why Bayliners are often called "Bilge liners"
  23. The water logged closed cell material that you removed probably was in there for a very long time. The reason why it becomes water logged is usually water on top and under it that freezes and expands in winter. This destroys the closed cell walls and the material starts soaking up water. A little more every year until it is completely water logged and weights about 60 pounds per cubic foot (weight of a cubic foot of water) . your pool noodles look nice, but their flotation value is much less than closed cell because of all the open space between it. It has happened many times that the noodles escaped their enclosure while the boat takes on water. The coast guard and the insurance companies do not except your solution as valid. It is very good that you removed the water logged material, but you should replace it with new pour-able closed cell material which has a flotation value of 62 pounds per cubic foot and is actually cheaper than your dozens of noodles.
  24. Sounds like you were right on top of a temperature break scum line. you could probably have done some great fly fishing for browns and steelies right there.
  25. I’m very interested. Where are you located Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
