  1. If the compression on this thing is good than this is a steal. Long shaft on a 1978 is 23 inches so it is halfway between long and extra long. It is very easy to connect cables and turn it into a remote control kicker.
  2. I looked into it and the idea is very attractive. I asked people on "The Hull Truth" website about it and the answer from most of them is that it is nice for walleye in quiet water but these motors are not made for trolling for 5 or 6 hours and then be able to use that motor to bring you back to shore in case of a main engine failure.
  3. They are funded by Exxon
  4. I just read your post again and their should be some info about other fish to catch. For the kids, that should be a pogy fishing trip on a head boat. The boat parks on a school of pogies and it is game on. they can catch a lot of nice fish. For you, it may be fluke which you can catch on the flats east of Chatham or if the summer is warm enough in front of Pamet harbor or in 20 feet of water in front the national seashore west of Province town. There you can use a Gambler rig tipped with sand eel with great success, while your boat just floats with the current. Now that is some very nice fish to feast on. And of course, there always is a ton of bluefish, skates and dogfish, although both skates and dogfish are considered a pest
  5. Billings Gate is a shoal in the bay. There are always a lot of stripers in the area around Billings gate. If it is fly fishing you want to concentrate on then the outside of the southern most tip of the Well fleet outlet would be a god spot. As for clamming, very often the local recreation authority sets up a clamming event which happens close to the regular beach. It is wading very close to the surf line in ankle deep water. Your wife can enjoy the event from under her Sunbrella sitting on a beach chair fifty yards away.

  8. You should google "on the water". That is the magazine with all the fishing news for cape cod and the islands.

  10. I got lucky today. By sheer unexpected luck I picked up an OMC 15hp kicker bracket, the white one with a gas/oil piston. So the other bracket will come off and the "new" fancy one will take its place. That should be done by Tuesday. I can already see myself dragging the garden hose through the snow in order to test start the kicker. With the smell of 2 stroke in the air, Spring cannot be far away!
  11. The reason why I have a 5 gallon tank for that 9.9 is because it is my backup in case the I/O causes trouble. I sometimes fish 15 miles north off shore , so I do need those 5 gallons to make it back in.
  12. Yes, I will take it. You have a pm.
  13. i completely rebuilt my 9.9 kicker over the past 2 weeks. Instead of straight wiring I put a set of cannon plugs of an old mercruiser wiring harness so I can unplug the kicker and put it away without too much wiring trouble. Tomorrow I will lower my kicker bracket 5 inches in order to make that old 2 stroke less of a noise hazard and a swim platform I picked up over the winter will be attached to the transom in order to carry a 5 gallon fuel mix for the 2 stroke. So yes, Spring over here is not in the air,but it is in my mind.
  14. Yes , pap just what I was thinking.I was gonna sent a pm
  15. Spring is a bit early for stripers on the cape. First come the bluefish and then later in spring the stripers show up. First off martha's Vinyard then the canal and later the bay. It starts with schoolies and as May turns into June ,the big cows show up and stay until september when they start their migration to the south again.
  16. It has been tried several times by companies trying to transport our water in empty oil tankers to the Middle East. The Great Lakes Consortium has successfully blocked all those schemes. But there is always the talk about a water pipe line going west. With the current president and the anti environment EPA boss , that might become more than just talk. 17. That is true, but now we making room for that water ,besides the lake Superior water takes a long time before it gets here.
  18. Wow, that sounds like it comes straight out of a Russian troll farm, or maybe an Ukranian one. Pap, I think you are being baited
  19. On Monday 3-19 at 0.700 AM the flood gates at Massena will be opened. That should bring the lake level down to normal. This would be a bad time to go fishing in the Saint Laurence. Let's just hope that there will be no drought this summer.

  21. Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime my wife is fighting to keep the laser lab open at the U of R. Higgs Boson is neither in my pay grade nor in my brain grade. If I am not mistaken, the Higgs Boson particle (the God particle) was observed in the accelerator in Europe last year, but it is not known so far if it is a form of energy that might be harnessed. I would put my bets on cold fusion , but that has been thirty years away for the past forty years, although significant progress has been made in the last few years. It seems that we are stuck with the more earthly forms of energy such as wind and sun for the near future.
  22. There is a big wind farm off Block Island in state waters of Rhode Island that is working and on January 25 2017 A huge wind farm project was approved in the Atlantic off Long Island and all the way north until 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard. Technology has made great strides and attitudes have changed.
  23. Environment as in skyline is often a local concern. The environment in the Appalachians has been destroyed by strip mining along with black long disease and acid rain. Gas drilling is destroying the water resources in Pennsylvania and causing thousands of small to medium earthquakes daily in Kentucky and Texas. Soon seismic sounding in the Atlantic will do great damage to the marine environment. That is just a small list out of many more. We all want our energy to be cheap and plentiful. On the Canadian side north of Gallo Island there is Wolves Island with many hundreds of windmills, but I read very little about protests there. Having windmills on Gallo Island is not pretty, but the energy produced there may save a mountain top in Virginia from being blown up or a few cases of deadly black long because of mining . Or slow down the acidification of our Adirondacks Lakes. So yes, environmental protection with the Windmills is a must, but so are the windmills. We are all on the same page in wanting the best for our lakes, so maybe we can try to work together by trying to find ways to get the best forward looking solution instead of stubbornly fighting a battle that we lost already.
  24. Close to shore, browns would mostly feed on gobies. Gobies do not have an air bladder so they usually lay on the bottom and in order to propel themselves they swim upward and then forward while sinking back to the bottom. I would use gobies, casting them as far as possible with a big sliding bobber on the line. Then I would cast and jig while slowly retrieving. I do not know if it still illegal to use gobies for bait. Another way to go is casting very small bait such as spikes or small worms and catch small baitfish that way. Then you can use these fish for bait
