Never had a problem with my 2 strokes either. They do have poor fuel economy at low RPMs. I never trusted the VRO and always removed them , stuck on a regular fuel pump and mixed 1:50.

If you would have seen what goes on in Sodus , you would be too.

I have a few 45s loaded with 500 19 strand and 200 weighted steel . The only issue that I found is the reel line guide. You have to make sure that your knots are very smooth and kept as small as possible

If it is a 19 footer you can probably get away with just a hydrofoil. If it is 22 foot, go for a hydrofoil and trim tabs. either way you will have to play with your lower unit angle to make it work.

I did three of them on different boats. It is time consuming and requires a bit of muscle power but it is not hard . What you need is a camera ,a good tape measure and a huge piece of cardboard. Before you do it make sure that it really needs doing, but once you have decided, it is a matter of removing your engine, a bunch of screws and the aluminum protective top. Then drill 2 holes in the top and screw big open eye bolts in there. Those are the handles that you use to raise the old transom out of its housing. If it is really hard you probably forgot a bolt. Once it is out( whole or piecemeal) you lay the pieces on the cardboard and measure out the dimensions which you will need to make the new one.Usually transoms are about 1.5 inches thick so you need to glue to pieces of 3/4 inch plywood together to get the right thickness. I would use Okuma marine plywood but other people use high grade fir Now you cut it out according to your measurements and glue the 2 pieces together. When it is good and dry, put it in the housing to make sure it fits. Once all is good, you have to seal the wood. I did mine with 6 layers of paint, but you can also use emulsions that you have to mix on the spot and paint on fast before it dries. Let it dry, drop it into its housing again and drill the holes where the holes in the aluminum housing are. Take it out again and paint the inside of all those holes in order to seal the wood there .Once that is dry. bolt everything back on, say a little prayer and go fishing So what is the camera for? It's there to take pictures of the taking apart, which will help you putting it back together again.

(iso) probe recovery service

The cod draggers in Gloucester,Ma are all laid up,because the cod are gone. Maybe you can convince a New England Fisherman to bring his rig here and drag the bottom. He should come up with thousands of balls, tens of thousands of lures, dipsies and flasher flies. I'm sure there will be a few probes in the catch as well. -
I got rid of all my copper and the trouble that comes with it. I now have 3 rods with 200 weighted steel backed with 500 feet 19 strand and one penn 345 with 300 copper and a thousand feet of 19 strand. . The Penn has a little gizmo that allows me to use an electric drill to reel the line in fast. Matthew of Torpedo told me that most of the depth calculations he did were done with lures. When testing depth with flasher flies the lines were about 20 feet higher on average. This is a result of increased water resistance.

ANOTHER good reason to wear your life jacket

We have a good rule on our tournament boat when on the way or fishing.(not so strict while catching) The captain steers the rig and the mate always does a 360 scan. In spring it we usually see drift wood, in summer rec boaters and in September combat fishing boats. A common thing to say is “ telephone pole at eleven o’clock. Leadcores coppers and rigger rods oh my!
rolmops replied to juthunter32's topic in Tackle and Techniques
According to Matthew (the owner of Torpedo wire ) there is a different way. His 19 strand has the same sinking rate as 27 pound test leadcore. His suggestion is using two colors of leadcore followed by 19 strand wire. That way it is possible to retain the unique character of leadcore stealth fishing, but at the same time being able to use one rod only for all the different leadcore lengths one could wish for. As for copper, can you say birds nest or cluster f--k? Weighted torpedo steel wire can be thrown in a heap on the ground and then easily wound back onto the reel without kinks or nasty knots. I'll try this summer and report on the results. If his claims about replacing both copper and leadcore with 19 strand and weighted steel wire are true, I shall have a lot of superfluous rods and reels in my boat. Who knows,I might even sell some. -
I'm glad they closed for the year. I cannot afford that expo to be open for more than three days. I had to go across the road to the casino to replenish my resources. ( I got lucky for once). But of course I spent all my winnings on more fishing rods.

A 16 footer is nice for nice days. 18,19 or twenty is better. Usually the gunnels are higher on the larger boats. On a 16 footer they are below your knees and on an 18 footer they are above your knees. That gives you added stability when you have to (ahem) lean a bit over the side. Also, the aluminum sixteen footers tend to go off course when you step around in them ( moving your weight throws them a bit off balance) this happens much less with 18 footers. Check out the starcraft or sylvan 16 footers and 18 footers and you will see what I mean.

On a side note, I now remember catching what probably were ciscos in front of the Genny in early spring ,either snagging them on lures or actually hooking them in the mouth. They were anywhere between 8 and 12 inches long. I did not know what they were ,but they reminded me of small striped bass.
-
Matthew is in Niagara Falls at the expo right now. If you make it there, there is a guy right next to his table at the expo. He is from Hamburg and he sells 19 strand by the foot.
-
The finger lakes and Lake Ontario used to have huge cisco populations ,but they were destroyed by alewives eating all their spawn. Has the DEC come up with a mutation that will not be eaten by the sawbelly/alewives?
-
The DEC stocked 26000 Ciscos in I-Bay four or five years ago. Did anybody catch any in I-Bay? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I may be willing to bear with you, but unless you are female, good looking and in your twenties, I will not bare with you!

An alternative solution would be selling the boat engine and buying a decent truck engine. That is probably a better and cheaper solution Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
