  1. I have a small question. How old is the fuel? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. The Hudson river has been dredged in order to remove the PCBs that were deposited by General Electric. The Hudson River valley has the highest per capita rate of cancer in all of NYS. So yes, everything is relative, but a worse violation does not make a bad one less wrong. Anyway I'll go ice fishing tomorrow before all the ice is gone. Meloria.
  3. I set up my islander with board masts at the front end of the cabin, but with board reels (manual) on the side next to the windows so I can reel in and without climbing all over. Next, I have a forward pointed rod holder for my net so it points forward and out of the way. Now come three adjustable rod holders quite close together. These are for rods that go to the boards. Now about two feet farther down a Bert’s rod holder for a dipsy diver rod and on the corner of the stern a down rigger. This is the setup for both starboard and port. On the stern there are a few backward slanted rod holders to move rods around. I ‘ll take a picture in spring. All the rod holders are tite-loks, the angled ones and the adjustable ones except for the dipsy diver holders which require better and faster moveability, hence Bert’s. 4. You and a thousand other people are looking for those rods. They are fantastic salmon rods and they fit in a boat cabin for storage. Every so often you will find a few on E-Bay or Craigs list. The new single piece ones are much lighter and would do nice for minnow fishing.
  5. I would think so,although the price of lead has gone up and his product probably costs a bit more. you should try to PM him.
  6. When I tried to run copper and weighted steel I had a problem with the knots because the line guide on the magda 45 is very narrow. It turns out that the magda 45 and the convector 45 use the same size line guide. However, the convector guide is heavy duty and slightly wider than the magda guide. The good news is that they are interchangeable. If you want to use a magda 45 for copper or wire you should order the A-1 Okuma 17100032 "widemouth"line guide assembly. That is the copper one you will find on the convector and coldwater. It fits the magda. It has 1/8"clearance for copper rigs.I got mine for $4.99 from "Tuna's reel Troubles". It will make the magda work for copper.

  7. I'd love to check it out but, South Dakota is not exactly around the corner.
  8. Airmar makes most of the transducers sold by the other companies. These are usually the cheaper ones. But the best investment is a high end transducer . It makes a huge difference.
  9. There are 3 possibilities. One is on the stern or as somebody here called it a skimmer. Then there is the through hull which is placing and gluing the transducer on the inside of the hull and sending the signal through the hull. This works for fiberglass boats ,but not for aluminum. And then there is through the hull with a hole drilled in the bottom of the boat and the transducer being in contact with the water. This works for both aluminum and fiberglass boats. But because of the electrolysis reaction of aluminum and bronze or stainless steel for that matter you must use a transducer with a plastic housing for aluminum hulls.
  10. And the old saying proves to be true
  11. I like your hoop system. It looks very roomy in there. All you need is some light and an electric heater. Now you have a small utility room for fixing things in the boat or just day dreaming about next season. If only you could have posted it a month ago. That would have given me time to be a copycat.
  12. This fresh in from a friend of mine who lives on the Long Pond road. She knows absolutely nothing about fishing and is flabbergasted to see those weirdos who spend all night huddled in a little tent trying to catch little fish. Yesterday her neighbor brought her two packages of nicely cleaned perch and she prepared them exactly in the same way, but she served them separately. Her family really loved the fish from one package, the other package not so much. So what was the difference? The best tasting fish came from Cranberry Pond ,the not so good fish came from Long Pond.
  13. Weather permitting, I'll be there on Sunday morning to pick up some torpedo wire.
  14. DEC Announces Statewide Survey of Freshwater Anglers Inbox x New York State Department of Environmental Conservation <[email protected]> 2:02 PM (22 hours ago) to me DEC Delivers Press Release -Information to keep you connected and informed from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Share or view as a web page || Update preferences or unsubscribe DEC Announces Statewide Survey of Freshwater Anglers Information Collected from Anglers Will Help Guide Future Management The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced that anglers who purchased a freshwater fishing license between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017, may be asked to participate in a survey designed to learn more about their angling behaviors, preferences, and opinions on fisheries management issues. "New York State abounds with an amazing diversity of freshwater fishing opportunities in each of our 62 counties," DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said. "From remote Adirondack brook trout ponds and streams, to trophy Chinook salmon fishing on Lake Ontario, our state offers some of the finest fishing in North America. Feedback from anglers is critical in helping DEC better manage the State's freshwater fisheries, and I ask that every angler who receives an invitation to participate in the survey." Last conducted in 2007, the statewide freshwater angler survey is designed to help DEC fisheries managers better understand where anglers are fishing, what they are fishing for, how many days they spend on the water, and what they spend their money on. It also provides managers with insight into anglers' preferences, satisfaction, and opinions on management topics. Expenditure information provided by anglers will also help DEC better quantify the benefits of freshwater fisheries with respect to the New York State economy. Unlike past surveys that have been conducted using a questionnaire delivered through the U.S. Postal Service, this survey will primarily utilize emails sent to a sample of license buyers, directing the recipients to an online survey questionnaire. Survey questionnaires will also be mailed to a smaller group of anglers to allow for comparison of the two survey methods. Emails inviting anglers to participate and mailed survey questionnaires will be distributed during January 2018, and anglers are strongly encouraged to participate in the survey. Results of the survey will be provided in spring 2019. For information on DEC's 2007 angler survey, visit DEC's website. http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/press.html
  15. Hold your guns for a moment. Most of the snow and rain is lake effect snow and rain. That means that it is water that evaporated out of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. It is stored in the form of snow for now but it does not make it more water than there was before. It will return to the lake in spring in the form of slightly warmer water than the water in the lake and that will bring bait and brown trout to the river outlets. On top of that, a lot of lake effect snow went into the St. Lawrence valley which is east of the lake. So that water/snow will go to the ocean without going through Lake Ontario again. There may be high water again next year but not because of this snow.
  16. DRLFC is a member on this board. You can PM him.
  17. It is not true that they no longer make them. Another company started making them about 4 years ago. Besides they are still serviced by a retired Penn employee. DRLFC had all his Penn downriggers refurbished just this spring.
  18. Thank you. The same back to you and all others on the site
  19. The police in Newfoundland do not enforce the speed limit. The Moose do. You will find them standing or laying in the middle of the road.
  20. As the day lengthens, winter strengthens....
  21. You have a PM
  22. Could it have anything to do with gas storage in the old salt mines? If the gas leaches out, it will replace the oxygen holding air in the water. Add to that the colder water temperature which makes the water denser and hold less air. If that is the case, there probably are some very powerful interests that want to stop the DEC from finding out. Most politicians care more for the hand that feeds them than the people they pretend to represent.
