  1. Does anybody know how many feet of 19 strand wire line I can load onto a convector 45 and still have enough room for 200 feet of weighted steel wire?
  2. Please contact the dec and if you can, give them a few of the dead rainbows. The fact that it is very different species may point to pollution or poisoning
  3. You have a pm.
  4. On my Islander I put a fuse block next to the helm behind the side cover. In addition I also added a shut off switch in the wire toward the battery, mostly because sometimes the electronics on the boat either "leak" power or get forgotten when it is shut off time. That way a little red light reminds me to shut off everything off with one switch.

    Leadcore line

Thanks for that heads up. I called them and they gave me the 20% on a back ordered convector.

I have a brandnew never used Okuma Magda Pro45 DX. I did not want to put 19strand wire line on it and bought Convectors instead. I' be willing to sell the Magda for $50

The 18 pound test will fit on a 57 ,but the line counter will be next to useless. because of the thickness of the leadcore. 300 feet of leadcore will make the linecounter show a very different number. Still numbers are only numbers and if you know the real amount of line is 200 feet while the counter says 250 you can just use the number 250 for 200 feet.

Depends on whether you use the 18 pound or the 27 pound. The 18 pound fits on a 57. I use 27 pound line and I use a Penn 330 GTI. You will not need a counter on your reel.

  10. For the best price on a Furuno or for that matter most other fishing electronics. It pays to make a visit to a website called the " Hull truth".In their electronics section there is a seller called "SemperFiFishing". If you register on the hull truth website ,he will give you some serious discounts. The guy's name is Gil Travis, his militairy past is obvious. Right now he sells the 588 for $1195 and the 628 for $595
  11. Lakers are not trout. They are char
  12. it has to do with the picture advance speed which you can adjust. if you put it at 1 or 1/2 you will short solid fish marks and if you put it at 4 you will have very long marks. As for the symbols. You can simply switch off that option and that will make the symbols and size go away.
  13. I fish with a 585 , a 582 and on my own boat with a 628. All have the same great ease of use although the 628 has a few added possibilities. The larger screens on the 582 and 585 are nice ,but not crucial. If I would have to buy another one tomorrow it would be a 588 because the 1000 watt gives you the option of using a far more sensitive transducer and it is amazing to be able to see not only your downrigger balls but also your cable on the screen. Although ,in the end they only help you locate the fish. You still have to do the catching yourself. I forgot to mention this, but with the boat running at at 25 mph a simple turn on the knob to lower sensitivity will allow you to read bottom, some structure and even the 582 with at least 10 years on it has never been known to loose bottom or freeze up. No matter what Furuno you pick, it the best tool on the market.
  14. There are all the ifs and buts about eating fish out of the lake that you may or may not look at. I remember all the pictures of carp and catfish with cancerous growths that were caused by pollution. Those poisons are still in the lake, although a lot of it is covered by sedimentation and a lot of it flushed out. Most of us have cleaned up our act, although just the other day I saw a nice, well educated suburban person dump a can of used engine oil in a catch basin in front of his house. My point is.Yes we have cleaned up our act, but it only takes a few loud mouths who are willing to destroy our environment for money and political gain and we will be right back in the era of complete disregard for the world around us .
  15. Most fishermen here catch their fish in spring and summer and out in the open lake well before they go up the streams to spawn. All the not so nice comments about half dead fish are referring to spawned out dying salmon which are not very good tasting or healthy ,as they are indeed about to die. One ride over the Skyway just south of Hamilton will show you what is being dumped into Lake Ontario by the heavy industry that is concentrated there. That should give you your answer about eating fish out of the lake
  16. If it is hundreds I would definitely buy it. The trailer alone is worth more than that. As for the lower unit, parts can be replaced. Salt water is not neccesarily the great evil it often is claimed to be. If that engine has a heat exchanger and it has been flushed properly after use it might not be problem at all. If it has a raw water intake and it was not flushed properly ,then it is more of a problem. Ask your family friend if you can take it to a marine maintenance mechanic and have him check engine and boat. Take it from there.
  17. You should be able to pick up a very decent 2 stroke 9.9 for $500 . A good 4 stroke will be hard to find for $800. If I remember correctly, your boat has a 20 inch transom so you should look for a long shaft. You may need a kicker bracket, but if you can fit the outboard in the splash well next to the main engine you will not need a kicker bracket or an EZ steer setup. You will need a remote control box and cables for shift and accelerator. My suggestion would be an 80s or 90s Johnson/Evinrude kicker. Those things are hard to beat.
  18. I use the same. No more birds nests and cursing in the boat ( well .. at least not for copper f- ups).
  19. I don't think that these squares are made to be moved. I just use pen and paper and number each square.
  20. Sometimes you really have to squirm to get off the hook
  21. I wasn't gonna say it , but I think so too. A major obstacle is weed bed removal in front of the summer lake cottages. It is the natural environment people against nice clean swimming beach people. Anyway, if it does, there will be no constructive proposal available and the DEC will just go ahead with their plans.
  22. DEC Delivers Press Release -Information to keep you connected and informed from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Share or view as a web page || Update preferences or unsubscribe DEC to Host Public Information Session on Habitat Management Plan for Lake Shore Marshes Wildlife Management Area in Towns of Huron, Sodus, and Wolcott The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will host a public information session to provide information and answer questions about a recently completed habitat management plan for Lake Shore Marshes Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located in the towns of Huron, Sodus, and Wolcott, Wayne County. "DEC is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing wildlife habitats on the Lake Shore Marshes Wildlife Management Area to benefit declining wildlife species and popular game animals," said Regional Director Paul D'Amato. "We look forward to engaging with the public about this habitat management plan and continuing to provide opportunities for outdoor recreation." The session will take place on Wednesday, November 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Montezuma Audubon Center, 2295 State Route 89, Savannah. An open house will take place from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a formal presentation. Lake Shore Marshes WMA is composed of eight units, covering approximately 6,430 acres, and provides excellent opportunities for wildlife-dependent recreation, such as hunting and bird watching. Habitat management goals for this WMA are to maintain a diversity of wetland and upland habitats that benefit a wide range of resident and migrating wildlife species, including several rare and declining species. DEC will continue to actively manage Lake Shore Marshes WMA to benefit a variety of wildlife, while using best management practices. Planned management activities include: timber harvests to improve forest health and increase forest habitat diversity; maintenance of wetland impoundments, potholes, and ditching; mowing and replanting of grassland fields; and control of invasive plant species. The meeting will include a presentation about the history of management on the WMA, specific activities and locations for the planned management actions, a brief overview of DEC's Young Forest Initiative, and a question and answer period. The habitat management plan for Lake Shore Marshes WMA can be found on DEC's website. For more information about this event please contact DEC Biologist Michael Palermo at (585) 226-5383.
