  1. Does this one have the single spring loaded stop or the double?
  2. Take about a hundred pounds of ballast (2 bags of sand) and put them in the bow. That way she will cut through the waves instead of ride on top of them
  3. When I get caught in combat trolling I usually put on the sharpened keels on my otter boats and run them at about 20 feet on each side. This makes for an educational experience for certain captains who believe that they can bully their way through the crowd
  4. Paul, how about giving us the name of the supplier, so we can buy from him. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. It's really a one man job sort of cottage industry. And familiar bait has a very good reputation. Others have tried , Sterling comes to mind, but most failed to equal the quality of familiar bait. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. The dream weaver stuff is tough as shoe leather.it takes a drill or a hammer and a nail to make a hole in it and when you finally have it in the water the fish turn away in disgust. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. It is very hard to fire political appointees,so even if the orders came from above, the grunt still gets screwed
  8. I have been lucky enough to have three fish successfully placed in the derby. Every time the fuel expense has been greater than the prize. On our boat we put all the small winnings into the "fuel fund" and we dream about winning the big one so we can fish for free for a season.
  9. I cannot find that video on your post, can you try to post it again?
  10. The pictures are up.
  11. The guide's name is Jon Jon Tabon. His (one man) company is called "Local fishing Knowledge". A bit more about Jon Jon. I just read that he is one of the few guides to ever make it to discovery channel fame. Before I decided to go out with him, I asked him what he does with all the fish that customers catch on his kayak, he answered that I can have some , but then he added that a lot of the fish caught on his boat is given away to neighbors who are not as fortunate as he is.That answer made me decide to go with him. It made me feel that the money I paid him went twice as far and I felt honored to be on his kayak.
  12. greetings from Maui, Hawaii It has been a week of great experiences. First the airport in Toronto where they let us through with overweight luggage without having to pay extra and then the seemingly endless flight over six time zones. After having arrived in Maui ,we first spent time in Hana. I did not get much fishing in over there, but mostly hiking along the seashore and into the rain forest ,while stopping to eat exotic fruits right from the trees. Then came the west side of the Island where all the tourist hotels are. Fishing from the shore every morning while casting with a float that has lead in it to improve distance . The line itself had no sinker on it. This keeps the bait and hook away from the very rocky bottom. So every morning there was the shore fishing. Next came the sports fishing charter for tuna and mahi mahi. This was a huge disappointment. We went with a charter company that took us out to deep water and there we started trolling in deep water at ten miles an hour, with the lures skimming the surface. In the first 5 minutes we hit a mahi mahi and a few minutes later another much harder hit with nobody home. From there on for the rest of the trip nothing. The captain did not do anything to change tactics, he just kept running the same gear at the same speed. These people are very jaded ,and it is obvious that they are not very motivated to make a (very expensive) trip a special trip. Next day was kayak fishing. the guide ,Jon Jon, made it an unforgettable adventure. we launched his 2 seater hobi kajak kayak from shore at apoint where the currents clash, caught some bait with a sabiki rig and from there on ,it was game on. The fish we caught were giant trevally (GT) and these forty, fifty pound monsters ,four of them, would take us for kayak rides and gave me some serious muscle aches. My suggestion for holiday trippers would be to stay away from the charter companies and go with a private boat owner and, if you can, go with a kayak.I'll try to get some pictures up later when I get back to Rochester. For now,Aloha.
  13. With all that warm water pushed into the Mexico Bay area we will have to go west and deep. Last year we had 71 degree water at 130 feet down. I suspect that it will be same story now for the next few days. But on the bright side, all that water coming from the west will probably have carried a lot of fish eastward.
  14. Dream Weaver cutbait. Did any of you guys use it? I bought 3 packages because I could not find any Familiar Bait. As it turns out I needed a hammer and a nail to get a hole through it where the tooth pick goes and after not catching anything with it for 3 hours I pulled it back out of the water and it was still as hard as when I first put it in. Needless to say it ended up in the garbage can. All three packages of it. Does anybody have any experience with this shoe leather?
  15. It is very easy to do. All the info is in the manual. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. I have had them under my biological binocular and found out that most of the black spots that some people claim to be eyes, are in fact clones that grow in the backside of the fleas. Under ideal circumstances you will find even 2 or 3 on each flea. When fishing last week the fleas I saw had a lot of black spots. I think that we're about to have a flea population explosion. 17. Looks like you had fun. I'm probably responsible for a rumor about king salmon in Owasco Lake. I was cleaning some twenty plus Lake Ontario kings on our dock when somebody stopped to admire them. I didn't tell him that those were not Owasco fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Out of Fair Haven. For the first time ever, instead of driving by there on the way to Mexico Bay, we launched in Fair haven next to the Little Sodus Inn. It was a very positive experience. The bay is well protected and once on the Lake, it is only a short ride ride to well producing fishing grounds. We stayed around 160 feet because there was no need to go any farther out. At the end of the day we went 6 for 8 and enjoyed a very beautiful coastline to admire from the boat. We'll be back!!!
  19. Fairhaven boat ramp Is the Fair haven State park boat ramp open? Or any other ramp in Fair haven?
  20. HOW MANY GUYS ON HERE ARE THROWING IN THE TOWEL because the ramps are closed ????? I bet zero.... I know a lot of people who do not want to make payments on toys that they cannot use and in quite a few cases it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
  21. With all the state launches closed for probably the rest of the year, there are going to be a lot of boats for sale in the Lake Ontario basin. Boats that have never seen salt water. My guess is that there will be great boats for low prices by the beginning of August.
  22. It's closed, but on Monday there was a DEC truck that had launched a boat. The boat was in the river opposite the closed launch stopping non existent boats in order to count non existent fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. The cloud burst on Saturday night sent the lake level up by 10 inches. I spent most of Sunday morning in a canoe catching dock sections and towing them back. It is the biggest rise in the water level that I have witnessed since 1979 when I bough the cottage on Owasco lake. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Torpedo wire Last January I bought a 1000 feet of 19 strand wire and 300 feet of the weighted stainless wire and while loading up my reel I found a few places where a strand had come loose. I did not think much of it and cut the sections out and retied. Then just 3 weeks ago I bought another roll which had no defects at all. I used it with 200 feet of the weighted steel line and I just love it. One rod and reel for all the different lengths of weighted line instead of 4 rods with different footage of copper. I decided to give Matthew from Torpedo a call and explained about the first roll that I bought. He listened to my issue and told me that he would send me a replacement roll. Today I got the roll in the mail. These guys stand behind their product!! I will load up another reel with the 19 strand and 100 feet of the weighted steel line. It should go down about 20 foot and then an additional 20 foot for every hundred feet of 19 strand that I let out. What I will have now are 2 rods which will replace several coppers and also allow me to use it instead of different lengths of leadcore simply by letting out more backing. The best thing about this stuff is the uncanny ability to be in a pile on the deck and not becoming a bird's nest. I had about 40 feet laying on the deck in front of me and I just reeled it back onto the reel. I am done with copper. I will have at least one Penn 340 levelwind for sale.
