  1. I have 4 10 foot downrigger rods . The rods will go for $20 a piece for the new ones and $10 a piece for the used ones. PM me if interested. I am in Rochester. My grandson is currently in training to become the captain of my boat. Cornelis.
  2. It should not be too hard to pull that block and stick a second hand 140 block in there. You can winter fish all you want with an I/O as long as you drain the block when you get out of the water.
  3. I only have one boat at his point. It is an Islander and it is trailered a lot. So that is where the rod holders will go.
  4. I had to entertain the family from Mass, (Hubbardston) for the weekend. So we fished from 7 till 1 and ended up with 2 browns, one rainbow and 7 lakers. The rainbow and the browns came on 8 and 10 color leadcore with super slim lemon crush and orange crush and the lakers liked the dipsies with wonder bread flashers and a-tom-mik green and white tournament flies. It was relaxing to be away from lake Ontario and fun to pull up to the dock at our cottage to have some coffee and then go out again. But then came the big surprise. My son gave me 2 Berts ratcheting rodholders as a (belated) Birthday present. Good luck to all the participants in next week's derby!

    Carp fishing

Did we start this carp thread to emotionally start preparing for the Great Asian Carp invasion?
  6. You can buy a can of silicone spray and spray the carpet on the bunks with the silicone spray. Your boat will go on and of like greased lightning. Most bunks are attached to adjustable bases. Maybe you should adjust the bunk angle a bit. ( the front end a bit higher)

  8. The wind will come down pushing the warm water into the south shore, but that does not really matter because with a north eastern wind the fishing will shut down.
  9. I tried that place once and it is everything you just described and worse. But, there is Magee just about 200 yards farther south and they serve a great breakfast and lunch.
  10. Try and check some boat graveyards.
  11. I need 2 rod holders and the tracks.

    Carp fishing

The best place for carp is the Seneca canal near the Montezuma park
  13. If they are that high up in the column, they are probably cohos. To get those you should try some red or yellow Luhr Jensen dodgers (0 or 1) pulling super slim orange crush dream weavers at about 50 feet down. They see them from below and hit them.
  14. I've paid the pro dues since forever. I did not even know that there was such a thing as adds for the non pros. Paying $20 for not having to see adds sounds like a sweet deal to me!
  15. The smaller marks above the riggers are cohos. when you see those, try and put red or orange Dodgers and orange crush super slims in that range. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. We had similar screens and sometimes way denser ones. The interesting part for me was the relation ship between the screen getting dense coloring and the water temperatures going up. I think that these are small patches of warmer water coming out of the (Oswego) river loaded with organic material. The amazing thing is that this warm water was down at the bottom under colder water. It was around these temperature break lines that we caught our cohos at a depth of about 100 down slightly higher than where we caught the kings.
  17. We started the day with a funny incident that could have been very nasty. While stepping from the boat onto the dock I slipped and fell in between the boat and the dock into the water. The ride out to the grounds was fairly chilly. Once on our waypoint ,the real fun started. For one thing,we were so far away from the combat fishing fleet that we could pull 500 copper on the boards without ever coming anywhere close to another boat even though there must have been 50 or 60 rigs trying to catch the big one. We ended up with 5 kings all well up in the 20 pound range and 2 beautiful cohos each just over 10 pounds. All the fish were caught on f/f between 90 and 120 down over anywhere between 130 and 170. The water temperature was around 51 degrees at around 110 down, but there were places where the down temps at 110 down went from 51 up to 69 and then down again because of underwater slick lines So it seems that the wait is over and they are finally here.
  18. If you order the pair from Big Jon with the half weights included, they will cost you about $110

  20. Buying a brand new boat is a great experience. go for it if you can!
  21. The Steiger is probably the best lake boat for the money. That does not mean that other boats are not good. It is just that I like the Steiger set-up. They have a nice cabin and a very good deck work space, which reminds me of a lobster boat. The outboard(s) also lengthen the fishing season ( winterizing can be done well after freezing has started). The Steiger can still be towed easily. If you are into outboards and aluminum ,you should check out the Bracket Islanders. https://www.google.com/search?q=steiger+boats&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
  22. This site is for fishermen and women to share their experiences and help each other by giving information about how and where fish is caught and many other things. New guests and new members are welcome as long as they share these basic ideas and principles. If some members sell their extra gear, then that is just fine. However, if somebody joins this community with the express purpose of using it as his business venture, then that person should register as such with the administrator /owner of this site. It is only fair to the other commercial supporters who do pay a fee for these activities and, mister fishhook, stop screaming.
  23. No ,that is what e-bay is for.
  24. Mr. Franksfishing. You put 3 posts into our website with the exclusive purpose of selling gear. This is not your private sales website. If you want to exclusively sell gear on here , you should get in touch with the website administrator and become a supporter of this site.
  25. There is the possibility that the guy crossing from behind was turning from the opposite direction. His copper would end up in the riggers. A strong wind or cross current can also get the long lines into weird places. Lol, just this Saturday I spent about 45 minutes unraveling a copper bird's nest while all the time thinking about 19 strand stainless weighted wire that does not make bird's nests.
