If your main engine is a 2 stroke, then get a 2 stroke 9.9 .

The east side of the lake is disastrous this year. The biggest salmon we caught so far was 19 inches and the biggest brown trout was 3 pounds. If you want to catch fish,go west of Rochester. The upcoming tournament in Oswego will be won by the boat with the strongest engine that can run the farthest west and come back in time for weigh in.

I have been considering switching from copper to the weighted 19 strand wire but, what held me back is the length of the wire being sold. ( Only 200 and 300 foot reels) So yesterday I called Matthew in New London,Ontario and asked him if they can sell 400 or 500 foot reels. He said,no problem and then he continued by telling me that if the reel has regular 19 strand backing you can let that out as far as you want and the overall sinking rate will be the same as the weighted wire. How is this possible?

I have a used P66 airmar transducer. This is a transom mounted transducer . It is a 600 watt 50/200 kHz with a speed wheel and temperature. It comes with the mounting hardware and has a 25 foot cable with Si-Tex plug (8 pins) ,but you can change the plugs to whatever you need. I installed a through hull transducer instead of this one. If needed I can send it in the mail

Is anyone fishing today in all this wind?

If it is a shake down you want, then this is the perfect day. You'll shake up and down and,if you are lucky,up again. -
We left the dock at 5.00 and headed for 9 mile plant on a quiet lake. We set up in 55 foot of water with surface temperature of 61 and temperature at 45 feet was 62. Trolling west bound we had a good screen, but the winds picked and big thunder clouds arrived on the horizon. We decided to not go any deeper and started trolling east ward. Soon afterward we got a big hit that ripped our spoon off and while this was happening we got our first dink of the day on another line 10 minutes later the first lightning was sighted and we packed up and returned to our slip in the river. By nine o'clock we went back out on the lake and fished the 50 to 90 foot deep area between Catfish and the plant. There was a good screen with plenty of bait, but no hooks. After catching some dinks (browns and salmon) we turned east again and slipped into the bay. There we encountered 60 degree water without any color to speak of and an empty screen. There were very few boats out today.

Did you replace all the fuel lines? Maybe the gunk is because of pre 2000 disintegration of intake or exit fuel lines .

Not all that the gobie does is bad. they feed on zebra and quagga mussels and the their vitamin b level is high enough for fish to be able to effectively spawn again.

On Horsin Around, Dr Lou and Paul developed an interesting solution to the cluster effs. They let 600 feet of copper out of the chute, then about 10 feet of backing and a huge bobber. Next they let out another few hundred feet of backing and they placed the rod in the rack above the cabin. Whoever was new on the team had the honor of reeling this setup in every so often. Yours truly had the honor a few times, until the big bobber miraculously disappeared.

I drove by there just last Wednesday and from up above it looked open. Michelle told me a while ago that she has tried to sell the entire operation including the lodging without success. -

How successful is the release of the big ones? Do they swim away or are they floaters? -
Out of the little salmon 6/4

It was a great day weather-wise,but catching dinks is not so great. It is almost like beating up on babies and the only challenge is to release them with as little harm done as possible -
Start with the cheap stuff. Check the fuel filters. One in the pump and one at the entrance to the carb. Next check the mechanical arm that goes from the pump to the cam. Also replace your fuel lines and check the air inlet and the fuel pickup on your tank. Put some reverse direction air pressure on the line that goes to the fuel tank. It may blow some gunk out of the fuel pickup back into the tank.

Out of the little salmon 6/4

We changed out setup to magnums with the larger hooks and some single hooks and in addition we also put all the clips and blacks to the lightest possible setting. This helped to the point where we were not dragging any hitch hikers. Then we also varied our speed to anywhere between 1.9 ( at one point) and 3.2 but that did not help ,they kept hitting. we lowered our lines to 105 feet down and even there they were bugging us. The one saving grace in this whole deal was that we did not drag them along any length of time and they all swam off after being released. I like to think that these fish will be very wary of any lures for a long time to come and they will probably make it back up to Altmar next year. -
We left the dock at 5.15 AM and went northwest to about 120 feet in front of the plant looking for salmon. Gone are the big mountains of bait that we saw last week sitting on the bottom. This week there are small and decent sized bait clouds and they are mostly in the 40 to 60 foot range (over anywhere between 120 and 170 foot). We found 47 degree water at 95 foot down. We set up a program with lines anywhere between 30 and 95 foot. First we tried a few FFs but it soon became clear that this was a spoons only bite. We ran dolphins and an assortment of green and black and silver stingers. We went 15 for 17 kings, but they were all in the 15 to 20 inch range. All the fish looked healthy. We returned all of them. By the looks of this, last years stocking and/or wild fish has survived well and that is very promising for next fall. Most of the fish we caught came from between 40 and 60 feet down. Another interesting thing is the very long and wide scum line. We saw some steelhead on the surface eating bugs. Rolmops.

WHLS - BIG WATER DERBY

Is there a possibility to include catch&release ? -
We left the dock this morning around 5 and headed towards 40 to 60 feet toward the plant . While trolling for browns we slowly meandered to the 70 foot range with a water temp of 58 at 35 foot!!!. And then the bait mountains started appearing on the screen, very similar to the pics that longline posted off his screen view in front of the Gennie. So we had bait and temperature and we even caught a brown or two. Between the 2 of them they must have weighed about a pound, not exactly picture show off material. That was just about it for browns and so we slid out to deeper water and there we tried for salmon. We caught some very juvenile juveniles in the 12 inch range and that was it for the day. It was nice to be out on the water, but I very much have the feeling that the winters of 13/14 and 14/15 did a lot of long range damage and it will probably take a few years for the fabulous fishing to come back to us. In the meantime, please do release every dink and don't be too hungry for lakers because they take a long time to replenish themselves.(besides ,they $hit all over the boat when you catch them)
