We had the same mountains of bait on our fish finder today in Mexico bay. -

There may also be another problem which is also easily fixed. On some remote control boxes (cables) There is an adjustment screw that controls the ease of movement that the cables move back and forth with. You tighten it and it will be harder to move the handle and the cable won't slide back. But I am just guessing here. Without seeing the engine all my advice is just a guess. -

If it is a 2 stroke you may have a problem with your link#sinc. To be more precise, just above your carburetor there is a small wheel that moves back and forth as you speed up or slow down. Sometimes that little wheel is worn down on one side, instead of round it is flat on one side. As you accelerate the wheel moves up and syncronizes the timing advance, but then it flips back onto the flat side and the RPMs go down ( the engine will burn rich and your plugs will go black). you will keep on adjusting and the wheel will keep on flipping back to the flat side. This wheel is easily replaced for about $5 and it is a very easy fix. -

Around this time of year you should be able to get some browns around seven feet down

Out of I-Bay
rolmops replied to rolmops's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I've got about a dozen, but I was trying for a different target at 2.8 mph. But the kings were not around. -
Had a late start today and made it to the water around 7. First we did a bit of brown chasing in 20' of water but we only managed to produce 2 less than mediocre brownies in one hour so it was time to go out deeper. We made our way toward seventy feet and had a gigantic hit on the one ten pound brown trout line that was still in the water. This was 20 feet down over 60 feet. We were too busy resetting everything for bigger fish and did not react the proper way. After some acrobatics this beautiful fish broke the line and simultaneously spat the lure out in midair We ended up with no fish and no lure. but it did wake us out of our lazy mood. For the rest of the day we picked at lakers with purple herring bone magnums and ended up with 3 of those, all in the ten pound range all on the dipsies which were out about 160 feet. Not a great catching day, but a fantastic fishing day.

When I bought my Islander,it was called "Salmon Slayer" whereas I see any boat as a "Dream Weaver". Those two really are at the opposite end of the scales. I removed the the salmon slayer name because I like dream weaving and sometimes maybe catching a fish. For 5 years now There has been no name printed on that boat. I call it "My Islander" and think about naming it "Dutch Treat". Maybe one of these days I will come upon the name that will end up on the bow and the stern.

I learned that trick from a little dutch boy who stuck his finger in a dike -
Try the #1 lure Jensen red yellow or orange Dodgers and about 3 foot behind it a DW SS in lemon or orange crush off 10 lengths of leadcore at 2.7 mph near a scum line. There will be steelhead or coho.

What? Did you know Earnest Hemingway too? Yea I was younger then , but he did use my story and he used my character for that little book he wrote. "the old innertuber and the sea " he wanted to name it. I still have a copy of it somewhere. -

O come on now fellows,we can easily out bs him,if we put just a little bit of effort into it. Let's make this an official bs thread. Ha I remember when I was 5 miles off shore in an inner tube with some shoelaces and a hook, and this monster hit my hook and started pulling me north, and at the same time these huge storm clouds started rolling in... please add to this story. -

With all the thievery going on in that area ,you may want to sleep on your boat.

In the old days, boats were renamed all the time, but with a slight of hand. In order to keep the jinx out, the new boat owner would remove the name of the boat and speaking out loud they would say, "You have no name" and dram of whisky would be poured on the water to appease the winds and the waves. The next day, this by now nameless boat would get a new name and a dram of whisky would be poured on the boat and in the water to appease the wind and the waves. Of course,if the owner was Dutch ,Dutch Gin would be poured.

I fully agree with your words. Small town politicians are on a power trip and do a lot to get re-elected. BUT they do not really run the town. The real power is with the people who got them elected (special interest group) These are the people who need to be talked to. Hence my comment involving the local chamber of commerce. -
Out of the Little Salmon
rolmops replied to rolmops's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We did come upon a few bait balls both on the bottom and in the 40 foot over a hundred and twenty range. The one thing that caught their attention was a #0 red Luhr-Jensen metal dodger with a Dreamweaver SS Orange Crush in the 35 foot range. The fish quite regularly shot up to check it out,but in the end they did not hit. -

I probably should have used the term "misunderstanding" in a more suggestive manner. -

I do have a grip about Wrights Landing. When I came back into the launch this morning the fish cleaning station wasn't open. No big deal, I have asked the nice lady in the ticket booth for the key in the past and she was always happy to give it to me. Not this time. A new lady in the booth told me she could only open the fish cleaning station for those people that had boat slips at Wrights. I was stunned, and told her I have never heard such a thing in the 15+ years I had been fishing there. She told me it was new policy and wouldn't budge.. Always thought the station was included in the now $10 launch fee.. Might be time to shift up to Mexico at least the launch was cheaper. Baytech This mostly sounds like a misunderstanding. The cleaning station is what makes that place so attractive. May I suggest that you make a call to the Oswego Chamber Of Commerce and explain your problem and do mention that you and your friends used to fish out of Oswego and you frequent the stores and establishments, but now ,you are thinking about taking your business elsewhere. I am sure the chamber of commerce people can clear up this misunderstanding -
So we decided to go play in Mexico Bay for the day. We left the dock around 6.15 and made our way out into a beautiful lake that was as flat as glass. We tried for browns from roughly in front of Catfish all the way west until almost in front of the Aluminum Factory and it was a blank screen and no hits all the way. So what do you do when you can't find the browns? You go look for lake trout. We turned north and out came the cowbells and Gambler's spin and glows. It was game on almost immediately and the lakers saved the day.We trolled between 90 and 160 f.o.t. and we had a great time. Because the surface water is still very cold we had great success releasing them. They all swam right back down again, which is amazing since most of these fish came from 140 feet down. We were joking about our fishing skills that seem to have deteriorated to the point where we need lakers to keep the skunk out,but then I reminded myself that Dan Keating dedicated a whole chapter about how mysterious and great a fighter the Laker is. Anyway we had a great time on the water.

I agree with your dad about the Force engines. But the trouble started when Mercury started toying with these very solid Chryslers. The Chryslers were and are still good engines. But I must admit that I have had bad dreams about being on Lake Ontario in a Bilgeliner with a Force engine
-
Before you buy a starter, check if the batteries are in good condition. You may want to go to the I-Boats forums. They have a forum that is dedicated to Force engine troubles. Your problem is discussed there numerous times. Do not be discouraged by the dim view that most people have about force engines. They can be fixed. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engine-repair-and-maintenance/force-chrysler-outboards

This afternoon at 4 I went out ,mainly to check the engines and to see how the new through hull transducer works. The transducer is soo much better than transom setup. going at 20 MPH it is still possible to see stuff. As for the other things; the engines run fine, but the plug is quite leaky so that has to be replaced. Anyway, I run a few lines with #9 rapalas and later with a few spoons. In about 10 feet of water east of I-Bay. The water temp was between 49 and 53 and the water is green, bur all I could come up with was one small brown. Anyway,it is good to be out again.
