  1. After reading what happened this morning in Brussels with suicide bombers both in the airport and the underground ,it really makes a lot of sense to respect the safety measures around our nuclear plants. The people who organize these murder sprees are very intelligent and patient. Let's not give them an opportunity to get close to a nuke plant.
  2. I use Big Jon pulleys on my home made mast. You can also grab the pulleys of some old downriggers. Those work fine too.
  3. Don't give up just yet. The fact that you get nothing at all may point to the cables coming from your battery. Try and remove them altogether and grab some jumper cables instead. Hook them up and see what happens. Next would be trying to bypass the ignition switch.
  4. Try and hot wire the trim pump.
  5. I think that your engine and all the other electronic parts stayed out of this short circuit. Probably your Perko switch is fried. Try and connect the battery directly while disconnecting both the positive and the negative on the Perko. Just a direct connection as if the Perko does not exist. You may get lucky that way.
  6. A few weeks ago I saw a thread stating that the manual Penn riggers are produced again under a different name.
  7. I run a 9.9 on my Islander. for trolling it is plenty, for getting back to port when the other engine has trouble it is strong enough to push the boat at 6mph. With the smaller kickers you may very well have a problem with strong side winds and the boat being pushed around. You will simply not have enough power to overcome this problem.
  8. At semperfi fishing. You can find him at the hull truth website. You can talk to Gil Travis by phone and he will help you pick the right connections when you order. Please bear in mind that Gil is on pacific time.
  9. The release is strong enough to hold the weight of probe and weight. Make sure that the weakest connection is below the probe,so if the weight gets stuck, the line will brake below the probe and not above. Also make sure that there are no loose strands on cable itself. You have 300 dollars dangling on a thin steel wire.
  10. I use a kicker as well, that is mostly for the extra security in having a second engine. You can also install a smaller propeller which will allow to go slower on the main engine.
  11. If your merc is a 4 stroke you should go with a 4 stroke kicker, but if it is a 2 stroke you should think about a 2 stroke kicker. It will allow you to only have one fuel tank on board instead of two Late eighties 9.9 OMC kickers are hard to beat both in dependability and price.
  12. I installed the bronze transducer with heavy duty rubber on the top and the bottom and an o-ring where it comes through the hull. All of it encased in 5200. What I did not like about that setup was that the transducer started to stick out under the bottom and I was afraid that this would cause water turmoil around it instead of a smooth flow. The electrolysis would really not have been an issue at all ,because bronze and copper were completely separated. So I removed the bronze and I hope that the stainless steel will arrive today so I can install it this weekend.
  13. Thank you guys. Stainless has been ordered.
  14. I am not sure if the fishmaster being over 20 feet has flotation foam, but if it does, you should check out if it is saturated with water. Water in the foam can add a lot of weight and it may be the reason why your boat is under performing.
  15. Unless you know how to fix them, stay away from the 3.7 liter engines.

    Thanks,but now everybody knows.
  18. I just got my bronze B60 thru hull transducer in today and reading through the manual it said not to install a bronze transducer on an aluminum boat because of electrolysis issues (galvanic oxidation). I would take this very seriously if I was docking my boat in salt water all season long, but I trailer my boat and I fish it for maybe 8 hours every 2 weeks. I am looking for opinions and experiences comparable of what I just described and how much of an issue electrolysis really is in this case. Thank you,Cornelis.
  19. The worst enemy of security is not taking it serious. What would all those who ignore the security rules say when a small boat carrying an RPG would manage to fire it at an office in there? You had better be advised that some people read everything (including this website)just endlessly looking for a weak spot. And the info about guards not enforcing the rules is not a joking matter.
  20. Sorry I do not have a picture, but my best fish ever was the first fish I ever caught. It was a 2 or 3 inch stickle back caught on a my own home made fishing rod which was a long twig. The line was a yard of sewing thread with a match stick for a bobber. The bait was a worm tied to the line with a knot ,without a hook. It is about 55 years ago,but it is one of those things that I will never forget.
  21. Thank you guys for all the advice. In the end I decided to repair my canvas. I had it done by a nice lady in Charlotte. She charges a little bit less than $18 dollars per hour. She redid all the seams ,fixed 2 holes and removed and replaced the outside lining. For 4.5 hours of labor, replacement material and taxes ,she charged $86. It looks very good. She also guarantees her work. She calls her business the Sewing Company (585) 581-0697.
  22. I am currently looking at the same problem for my boat. The B60 is only a 600 watt unit while your 585 is capable of working with 1KW. I would definitely contact Gill. Its not just the strength difference but there is also the deadrise issue. The b60 comes in 12 degree and 20 degree angle. So you will want to find out if you need a faring block or not. Gill's number is 1-800-925-0341
  23. Does the furuno come with a transducer?
