For Sale : USA old johnson 125 hp
rolmops replied to fishghost's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
The last electric shift 125 johnson outboards were made in 1972. Also the HP rating was taken at the drive shaft, not the propeller, which effectively leaves you with around 110 horse at the propeller. It is a very well built trustworthy engine. -
Wanted Looking for outboard
rolmops replied to burkhartm's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
If you want a good trustworthy outboard in that range, look for a mid eighties Johnson /Evinrude. Remove the VRO and replace with a regular fuel pump. You will be all set for the next 20 years. If you can find it, get a looper (something to do with the shape of the cylinder head) those are not as thirsty. -

Try this: http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercury/manuals/75-90-100-115-125.html#/0 This is a much better one and it is for free.

Start with getting a factory manual. it makes hard tasks easy. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

looking at a 21ft bayliner with a 150 force outboard
rolmops replied to bondouley's topic in This Old Boat
1987 to late nineties Bilgeliners and force outboards spell trouble. Yes the old chrysler outboards were good, but what mercury turned them into is terrible. I have rebuilt a few bayliners for friends and every time the stringers were rotten and the transoms questionable. On top of that the flotation foam is usually very unevenly divided, but probably with a 21 footer there is not going to be any foam. There is a reason why people do not like them. -
That is possible, but right now many charter boat captains are becoming expert laker fishermen for obvious reasons and before too long they will put a serious dent in the laker population.
-
I hope that you are right. It seems that that 34 pound laker you caught a few years ago is still biting you in the behind because I do not see a laker devision in the fall LOC

So how exactly can I win multiple daily prizes if I can only have one fish on the board at a time???? Besides, the fish that has the highest money value today, may be a much less valuable fish tomorrow, while the fish that got bumped yesterday because of a lesser financial value may in fact become the devision winning fish, because of additional bumping across the board of bigger or better fish caught by other competitors, which caused one of their fish being bumped. I do believe that I need a clearer explanation of the rules because the way they were presented here is very unclear and at the same time have the potential of allowing smaller fish to win bigger prizes. This way of prizes being awarded can be blown out of the water by any lawyer in town.

Out of the Little Salmon 8-16
rolmops replied to rolmops's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
After the winter that wasn't a winter there was a great salmon population which lasted into a second year. Then the very cold winter of 13/14 and on top of it 14/15 and the fishing became very poor (for pacific salmon). I may be off base but I think that this cold water and the salmon not having the possibility to escape to warmer water( as they would in the Pacific) really caused a lot of fish to die. It is not as if the water coming down the Niagara in winter and spring is 39 degrees and up. It is between 39 and freezing because the 39 layer stays on the bottom of lake Eerie. The Atlantic Salmon in Lake Ontario probably has a better survival rate in these harsh winter circumstances. It will probably take another 2 years to get back to the larger numbers of fish that we got used to. -
We tried it again this weekend with much the same results as last week. You have to run to deep water and the thermocline is at over a hundred feet down. There are lots of bait pods but very few takers. We fished from six till noon and threw everything at them including the kitchen sink. We fished copper, lead core, dipsies and downriggers. Flasher flies, flasher lures ,meat rigs and lures. We tried the column from top to bottom and ended up with a 22# king,a 14# king and a 12# laker but it was hard work. We saw several charter boats retreat to the laker grounds after trying for salmon. Let's hope the fish will show up in the next few days,or this year will end up as dissappointing as last year.

I do not mind the price hike. What I do mind is that the smaller daily prizes are often just above the point where you have to declare that money. A tax free $500 dollar prize is better than a $700 prize that has to be declared.

Mexico bay temp?
rolmops replied to tough luck's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
All the weights that you mention are very popular in the southern states where people troll shallower. You can probably sell them on e-bay at a very good price and send them by USPS priority mail where only size plays a role but weight does not matter. You probably have enough balls and pancakes to afford nice new 13 or 15 pound torpedoes ,which are made by several LOU members. -
Female I presume.

If you use thse pumps in a river with zebra mussels, it is also a good idea to pour some bleech down into these hoses every so often just so the zebra mussels do not start growing in your pump intakes.

Mexico bay temp?
rolmops replied to tough luck's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
It easier to reach these depths with a 15 pound torpedo. Chinook I fully agree with everything you mention about current, speed, blowback and angles. It really is just physics 101. -

A pin hole in your fuel line will cause the engine to suck air instead of fuel.A pre 1991 VRO pump should be torn out of that engine and replaced with a post 1991 or a regular fuel pump ( mix your own juice). Remember, always start with checking out the simple and cheap solutions before throwing money in the wrong direction. And then there is the funny one.Are you sure that you have the right wire going to the right plug?If not, even though all the plugs fire fine, they don't fire at the right time. As for something trickier. Pull your plugs and check if one is very clean compared to the others. If so there may be water coming into the cylinder which can be caused by a blown head gasket or a part of the exhaust cover (internal) having blown. Then even simpler ,the engine may overheat because of a bad impeller,in which case these engines go in emergency mode. I can think of a few more, but this is something to start with.

Best time to sell a boat - Fall vs. Spring
rolmops replied to momay4000's topic in Open Lake Discussion
A rig like yours that is well known for its quality and well rigged with gear should do very well in the next few weeks, but as the season winds down so will the the buyers interest. Next March to May interest will pick up again specially if you can do test runs. On another note. If you sell and feel like some fishing, you are welcome on my rig. -

The fishing in Owasco lake is fine. The problem is with the Moravia Launch. It is quite shallow and has huge amounts of weeds. It has happened to me several times that huge clumps of weeds got stuck around the lower unit and I had to raise the outboard and hang over the stern to get the weeds off.
