There was a question asked out West on a West Coast fishing forum. Now for the last three years I have been talking about Spoons, Flies , Sub Probes, Planer Boards, Steel Line Rods and Copper Line Rods. The answers the guys in California, are always that East coast stuff will not work out here.Which is a false statement, I seem to do quiet well on it. So could you guys help me out on a survey ? What West Coast items do you use ? I will post up your answers out west with your permission.

rdebadts At 300' it's 49 degrees by my probe. I run 17lb weights and have 400' of cable on the reel, The hard thing is hanging onto the fish at that depth once they hit.

What color combination of Fly and Flasher do you like at 200' and deeper for Kings ? Thank you in advance

Tom No Walleye any where in California that I am aware of, Nevada and the Columbian River is all I know of. There hoping for a 4% return. A friend of mine said he caught 2 of the little guys, all the way down by the dam and it's some 15 miles away from where they went into the water last month.

Well today F&G Biologist Monty, Steve and myself were on hand to welcome the new residents to Shasta Lake, 87,840 King Salmon, all were in the 3" to 6" range and 9mos old. This is the second stocking in two years on the Sacramento arm of the lake. .Monty and Steve told me , we will have a total of 90,000 for stocking in 2011 for Shasta , which will be the highest number of Kings. The driver of the second truck on the left went to take the surface temperature, to make sure it was safe to stock the fish. Surface temp was at 65.5 degrees and in range of stocking policy. Between this year and last, we have now stocked 143,840 Kings on the Sacramento arm of the lake. The 1stocking was from Sugar Loaf 4 miles south of the years stocking from Antlers boat ramp and only 1 1/2 miles to moving water. Monty is hoping that a number of these fish from today will move north to the moving water. If all goes well, we should see some fish going up river to spawn and for sure in 2012

Sorry to hear about your losses back east, we have had the same thing happening out west here, except for the deer and salmon. Guys are having fish finders and down riggers taken off there boats, plus the tackle , rods & reels. Maybe we should be more like the countries that cut off your hands when caught. Then insurance companies deprecate your items and it becomes hard to replace some of it. Again I am sorry for your losses. -
Iceman It's all over America, where people can not walk down the streets at night, not just California cities. To pick one race over another is crazy. There are gangs of every nationality across America. Some of the gangs have more members than some countries have men and woman in the military for there country. After some research, Oakland Ca. alone has one gang with over 8,000 members. Now that is not a gang in my mind but an army.

Mike I am a vet with 3 tours in Nam, I took the same oath as every politician who has taken office. I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God. the enemies are the gangs and they are Domestic Mike, The politicians have all failed in there oath to us. So how can you be proud when people are suffering, right here in the USA

Last Thursday when I went to Riverside California, for my youngest sons wedding. Life hit me between the eyes at 64, when people have to live with bars on there windows and steel front doors with rod iron fences with barbed wire on top of that, to feel safe in there own homes. These gangs are not different than Joseph Stalin, Adol Hitler,Sad Hussein or Ho Chi Minh. There little countries with in a city with a dictator running that piece of real estate they think they own. Keeping people in constant fear and from walking down there streets they live on, is no different than what the above men did to there countries. Why does life have to be this way for these people, no matter what race they are. No one should have to live in fear in America and I am a Vet. This has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats but we as Americans

My good friend Bill has had a great year putting his clients on some nice Kings . Here is a 33 Lb Rouge River Oregon King caught 10-3-2010. Bill said the guy lost a 40Lber and settled on this one.

We let out one rod with 600' cooper and sent it down 180' off the down rigger, using Off shore release. The second rod was with 400' copper down at 200' off the ball with Off Shore release. The Off Shore releases would not hold the copper, at that depth for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Replaced the Off Shore with Cannon uni-line release and sent them back down and they held. One thing I would not do, is try and make a turn with the two lines out that deep off the two down riggers

I want to thank all the members and the LOU for all your help in, me getting these tournaments going in California.. We are gearing up for the second season of 2011.
-
GIll-T Braid it was, the problem is you have so much blow back in your line at 300', that is a lot of slack to get out when the fish hits. That is why I was wondering about the steel or copper line.I have no problem getting down to them, it's the getting a good hook set at that depth.

Happy Birthday Hank, you are starting to catch up with Bob and I May your day bring you all you wish for -------- RELAX HANK-------- -
Pete our land locked Kings are not as big as you guys on the big lakes have. But the hunt is the same in fresh water, no matter what the size of the fish. No one here really targets the Land locked, the other problem is most guys don't have enough cable on there down riggers to get them. I run 500' cable on my riggers. But this picture finally told me why I have not been able to get them myself. I have been fishing to shallow, only been in the 180' to 200'

Nope these fish are in the 12 Lb range, And for big fish we go to the coast, these where caught in 40'
