I could hear the pipe playing all the way out here in California as you walked aboard. Congratulations

Out west here , we always cut the gills as soon as the fish hits the deck. But were not fishing derby's or tournaments. Usually the fish is iced down as soon as the gill's have been cut. My two friends that use to have a commercial salmon boat, did not start to gut the fish till the fishing ended. Then it was the job of the crew to start that bloody job . But the fish are again iced down as soon as possible. I keep one of my live wells filled with a min of 30lbs of ice, when out fishing at all times. Do not use block ice , crushed or cube is the best http://www.salmonuniversity.com/ol_caring_for_fish.html

We had the day planner to limit out on Kings off Whiskey Town Lake today. It just was not in the cards, not even a King in site. As we went under the 299 bridge out went the big boards about 125' each side of the boat, hooked up 6 rods off the tow line with my favorite spoons for Kings. The weather was on the cool side and a light wind, just enough to keep a nice chop on the surface. Headed towards the dam and marked vary little activity , as we went across the base of the dam Jmat's rod was slammed and a fish came out of the water 2' plus feet. John yells out fish on as we watched him fight the fish in to the boat.Gerald netted the fish for John and we where all in awe. He had hooked up a 2.7 lb rainbow 21", we all would have put money the fished weighted in a 3lb. The rest of the day we watched fish jumping all around us. with only one hit and hook up all day we came off the water as the sun set over the mountain. It was a great day with John and Gerald on the lake. It was a hell of a day at sea captain. Hope you like the pictures

Well Jmat, Sierra Nomad were up at the house at 1;45 pm, it was 70 degrees here. As we headed up the mountain the temperature started to drop. As we crossed the dam the road turned to black ice, we slowed down to a crawl to the boat ramp 3 miles further. We loaded the boat with there gear and launched. The air temp was now at 35 degrees a 35 degree temperature drop in 35 miles. Hooked up the first two rods for the in-line planner boards , both with Shasta Tackle cripplures . The next two rods where set up with 2two more cripplures on the down riggers at 25' down. The next two rods where again set up with two cripplures for long line 250' down the chute. Each cripplure was set up with the exact instructions of vojai, action jackson and Gary miralles him self, trolled at 1.9 & 2 mph by gps. After about an hour Sierra Nonmad had a hell of a hit, but no fish dam city boy could not hang on to it. The air temperature started to drop as the sun started to set on the west side of the mountain. Off the water at dark 6;15 pm, but all in all it was a great day, getting to meet new Lunker Hunter members Yes LD you where the main topic all afternoon. The two of them headed over to McClound to camp by the lake at it was now at 30 degrees out side. I will hook up in the morning at McCloud res, with the two of them , in hopes of getting into some fish. Two of the greatest guys I have meet in some time Thanks for the opportunity of meeting the both of you. Jmat just call said there is to much snow to drag my boat in, so there headed back down here.

Mr. A-Tom-mix I have tried my hardest to give up 50 years of fishing experience, To learn the way the great lakes and finger lake guys fish. The great success you all have is accredited to the tackle you all use , the depth raider type instrument and the methods that they are delivered . Since I have started to buy the tackle and instruments of delivery , my fish count has come way up. This last year of sharing the new methods and tackle out here in California with others , has been a great joy. I have been asked a number of times why this or that, so being a new guy myself . With a place to find the proper answers here on the LOU . I can answer the questions of others. Like I said I have been using the Grand Slam bucktails in salt and fresh water with success. Then some one out here introduced me to the Howie fly and Spin doctor. Most likely it was or is there fly of choice. But for me to get all corners of the box I need to try all the products in that line and be able to give a educated answer to those out here wanting the answers. I thank you for your honest views on this topic, and will make a copy of your answer to give to those who need it. Again thank lou, to all of you guys.

I know UP AND OVER old master

I think I am going to open a can of worms on this question. Just trying to understand . What makes one fly more attractive to fish, over another ? I myself have been using Grand Slam bucktails for a couple years. Now I have also added a number of Howie flies in my collection. With Spin doctor dodgers. Please just looking for information not a battle, trying to understand from the west coast. .

hey guys thanks, today there will be three of us . So I can split them up or all 6 off the shore side. See if we can pick up some browns today Saturday and Sunday.
-
out here we are only allowed two rods per angler. My question is are you better off to run both lines off one side on the tow line ? or one on each side ?

Is there a chart for copper use in depth ? How many feet will equal how deep ? I got my heart attack rod and reel 600' copper 250' of backing with 100' leader. What is the proper leader lea nth for a leader. One thing I can say is I have caught plenty of bass on it, and my arms are getting bigger. What a work out, need an elect reel
