  1. I saw this little gadget advertised, and wondered in anyone on the forum has tried it.
  2. Thanks for the replies! With my son out of the house now, I've had to resort to puting the spool under my Great Lakes Planers tightening knob on the dual rod holders. But it only works if the spool has a center hole big enough for the 1/2" bolt. Otherwise, it was always my son holding the spool on a pencil or screwdriver, with gloves on so he could apply some resistance.
  3. While we're on the subject, let's include spinning reels and downriggers.
  4. I've seen all kinds of gizmos and gadgets on the market that claim to help you put new line on your reels without line twists. How do you put new line on your levelwind reels? I'm talking about mono, flouro, braid, lead core, copper, and wire dipsy line. What gadget, Gizmo or technique have you found that absolutely works with all line types?
  5. Sometimes our jobs require us to be computer savvy. I've learned to embrace certain aspects of this high tech world we live in, but but my knowledge and computer skills are still way behind average. Don't even mention what smart phones are capable of. I'm not smart phone savvy either.
  6. I agree, which is why I like rolmops comment about using rain gear for more than just fishing. I need good rain gear for outside chores around the house more than I need it for fishing.
  7. Not for me. I don't know what fashion looks like
  8. I agree Les, rain gear is in that category of getting what you pay for. I want something that is comfortable, breathable and made to last. It gives me something to research during the off season so I am ready for next spring. I'm not looking for top of the line stuff, but a quality set at a reasonable price.
  9. Thanks guys! I have the Frog Toggs for those unexpected rain storms, but I think they are ponchos. I'll look into the Hydronaut when I place my next order from fish USA.
  10. I have decent rain gear but it makes moving around the boat a little (maybe a lot) cumbersome. It fits like a straight jacket and doesn't flex much at all. I think it's thick PVC. Sometimes I'm more wet from sweat than from the rain! I've noticed the good flexible rain gear is pretty expensive, so I've just stuck with my uncomfortable rain gear. Besides, when there's rain in the forecast, it's usually accompanied by high winds and big waves, which are not a good combination. That makes me wonder if good rain gear is worth the money, or if I should just stay home on those rainy days. Got any suggestions from personal experience?
  11. Uni to uni knot is a good idea. There's no way I could squeeze 30# mono through that microlead sheathing. It was hard enough to get it through standard lead core sheathing.
  12. Thanks for the info. I've used the Willis knot in the past and had no issues with the knot failing or going through the rod eyes or line guide, and that was using 30# Big Game mono and standard size 27# lead core.
  13. So the #8 spro swivels go through the eyes and reel line guide smoothly? What knot do you use to tie the lead core and flouro to the swivel?
  14. Thanks for the link! How difficult is it to tie 30# Big Game mono onto the micro-lead? That's what I use as a leader. I haven't jumped on the flouro bandwagon yet because mono has been working just fine for my 50 years of fishing.
  15. It's time to replace my lead core line. I'm considering Sufix 832 or Stealthcore. I like the 27# test lead core but the 832 is only offered in 12# & 18# with claims that it is 70% stronger, dives 30% deeper, and has 3 times the abrasion resistance of other lead core lines out there. Is this true or a marketing gimmick? I know Sufix is a reputable brand. What about the Sufix Performance line? Just looking for opinions from those of you who have personal experience with certain brands that you use. Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the sale, and great idea with the memoir's!
  17. Henderson launch should be ok. The water level is a foot below the top of the boat launch wall at Stony Creek.
  18. Well , I didn't think you had any left so I ordered some Bloodrun wire yesterday. Thanks for getting back to me, and sorry I didn't give you more time to reply.
