To All Veterans & Active Duty Military
Todd in NY replied to Todd in NY's topic in Open Lake Discussion
If you own a boat and would be interested in taking a veteran or currently serving military member fishing on Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, the Finger Lakes, Lake Champlain, the St Lawrence River, or any other body of water (fresh water or salt water) in New York state, please contact me by text or email. We are trying to increase our OATH NY membership, which is free for veterans and active Military/Guard/Reserve. Anyone boat owner or charter boat that participates in the 2018 OATH NY Summer Fishing Slam (still not officially named yet) will receive a tax write-off form from Gary Romig of OATH NY. There are no entry fees for this summer-long event. My goal is to allow all of the participants the flexibility to fish whenever and wherever it is convenient for the boat owners and vets/military members. All vets and military members who participate are encouraged to join OATH Inc (OATH NY). The 2018 OATH NY Summer Fishing Slam will run from June 1st through August 31st. As of now, there are no cash prizes because there are no entry fees. I will be working with Gary Romig to have T-shirts made up for the event that participants can buy. More to follow on the T-shirts. If you own a boat please contact me with your name, contact info, what port/location/body of water you will launch out of, and how many vets you can accommodate on your boat. I prefer email, with OATH Slam as the subject line, but text is okay too. My email is [email protected] , and my cell is 315-783-1401. No spam please We would like to see pics of your catches with length and weight of each fish caught. More info to follow... Thank you! -

Chaumont Area Report
Todd in NY replied to cedarswamp's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Went out yesterday afternoon and never moved a rod. Trolled all afternoon until 7:15pm with shallow and deep stick baits on inline boards, spoons on riggers just off the bottom, and a worm harness down the chute on a 5 color lead core. Marked a bunch of bait pods from 10-30ft down, and marked a bunch of fish on or near the bottom. Fished water from 10ft to over 60ft deep. Surface temp was 59.9*. Trolled from 1.6-2.5 mph. -

I SO navionic chip
Todd in NY replied to perchjerk jim's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I think you will need a Navionics chip from 2009 or older, might read E5 (2009) or E4 (2008) on the label. The newer cards will not work in your LCX 111c. -

Good luck! The fish are scarce up by Henderson Harbor. Fished yesterday and today, never moved a rod.

Boat Re-wired & Other Repairs, Before & After

I got to the boat launch around 2pm and the first words I heard about the fishing was that no one was catching anything at all. We we're met with 10-20mph west wind and white caps on Chaumont Bay. We headed west at a snail's pace of 6mph in 2-3ft chop that gave my windshield wiper a good workout. I finally got tired of the pace so I killed the main motor and fired up the kicker motor. I put out a large Yellow Bird board on the starboard side with a perch colored Scatter Rap. I put a Wille Side-Liner board on the port side with a green and yellow long shallow Bay Rat. I then ran a purple DW spoon down the chute on a 5 color lead core. We marked what appeared to be some bait here and there, and a lot of random suspended weeds. Surface temp was 55*. We trolled for nearly 3 hours and never moved a rod. Got back to the dock and heard more of the same, no one out there is catching any fish. I have absolutely NO complaints about the fishing trip. It was my first time running the boat since I bought it. Spicer's Marina did some major fine tuning and many repairs on the 1989 Evinrude 150 last fall. This boat has come a long way since I bought it last fall, and everything worked perfectly today. Im also very happy with how the boat handled the choppy conditions. The inline planer boards worked great in the turbulent white-capped chop we had (large Yellow Bird and Wille Side-Liner, now made by Big Jon). Even though we got skunked, this was the absolute best shakedown cruise I've ever done, with zero issues at all. Today was a huge success! -

A little white paint goes a long way. We almost got all the bare wood on the right side seat box painted with one coat before it rained. I put the Exide batteries in the boat and realized they are too tall for the battery brackets, so I'll try to buy some different hold down brackets today. Also attached an aluminum yard stick on the composite transom board. Tried to start the main motor last night after dinner. It would start but wouldn't keep running. I suspected a bad fuel line & primer bulb because I could here air leaking around the hose clamps, and the primer bulb wasn't staying firm. Made a trip to Walmart last night and bought their last fuel line. Installed it this morning and the main motor ran perfectly. I then filled up my 100 gallon stock tank and ran the kicker motor. It's a 1980 Evinrude so it doesn't run on muffs. Everything is looking like the maiden voyage will be tomorrow for some walleye action around the Chaumont Bay area. Fish or no fish, I can't wait!
