  1. I was wondering how it works for charter boats. Do they give you a sticker like the one I have, or does it look different?
  2. Apprently they won't board your boat if you already have a current-year sticker displayed. It's always better to get the inspection at YOUR convenience rather than while your trying to fish.
  3. This motor runs great!! Had no problem pushing a 24ft boat.
  4. Thanks, and I would do the same. I told Gary I would be willing to take vets out fishing on my boat.
  5. I'm posting this with Chad's permission. Thank you Chad! There is a fairly new and legitimate veteran organization called OATH, Inc, which stands for Outdoor Association for True Heroes. It is free to join, and there are no membership dues. Membership is open to all veterans and active duty/reserve/NG military members. OATH, Inc is a not for profit 501c3 organization that offers free hunting and fishing trips to it members, as well as other outdoors activities. These trips are donated to OATH, Inc by various charter captains, as well as fishing & hunting guide services. Two of our members went on a fully funded moose hunt last year in Maine. All our members had to provide was their own transportation to the hunting lodge. Once there, all food and lodging was paid for. Both members each shot a moose, and the meat processing was provided for free as well. There are deer hunts, maybe another moose hunt, and fishing trips planned for this year, as well as turkey hunts in May. There is an application that must be filled out and sent to the NY OATH, Inc general manager Gary Romig. I will post his information below. There's no reason to not join OATH, Inc. It costs you nothing, and it can bring outdoor adventures to you that you might not be able to do on your own. 6. And it never left my driveway. I just wanted to pass along to other LOU members that the USCG or USCGAUX will come to your house or marina and do a free courtesy and OFFICIAL safety inspection on your boat. I simply requested a safety inspection on their web site on Wednesday morning and by Thursday night a vessel inspector contacted me to set up an appointment. They have up to 3 days to contact you, and your request to forwarded to 5 inspectors that live closest to your boat location. Bob arrived at my house before 10am yesterday, conducted the inspection, and awarded me a 2018 USCG vessel safety check sticker. Bob was friendly, professional, in uniform, and we had a great conversation about boating and fishing. He is a volunteer, so I made sure he knew how much I appreciated his time and the job he does. He owns his own older boat, a Carver over 35ft, so he understands how much effort it can be to maintain a boat. Bob was a very nice guy and it was a pleasure to meet him.
  7. Thanks for the info! DEC web site had none available as of early April or late March (I don't remember when he checked). He's still talking to professors at the college, along with many other students.
  8. Does anyone know of any available summer internships for environmental science students? My son is finishing his 2nd year at SUNY ESF (Environmental Science & Forestry) in Syracuse and has been applying for internships through the college since January, but he hasn't had any luck so far. He is majoring in Environmental Science. He lives off campus and rents a house just south of the campus.
  9. That kind of work takes more time, knowledge and patience than I could ever find. It looks like it paid off for you at least a little bit, in how good it looks now. It's probably better than new.
  10. Some of those bases have a thin rubber "mat" under them to protect the deck. Are you mounting them where you can use a backer plate under the deck?
  11. I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like the holes in the corner of the bases are for deck mounting.
  12. You and I are in the same "boat". I would've taken one look at that boat, and the work it needed, and walked away. I know it far exceeded my skills.
  13. Wow! That boat has come a LONG way. Awesome job, and keep posting pics please!
  14. Earlier this month, before I uncovered my boat, I installed my Humminbird 959ci HD GPS (standard 83/200 ducer), my Lowrance HDS 8 Gen2 non-touch (50/200 ducer), and my Sub Troll. All are mounted on Johnny Ray swivel mounts. This was when I realized that I needed to re-wire my boat because none of my electronics worked.
  15. Thank you very much! We have rain in the forecast for tonight and EVERY day through Friday, so I'm not sure when I'll get to add my second fuel line to my fuel/water separater (for my kicker). I still have some other plans for creating storage space under the left seat box and inside the cuddy under the seat cushions.
  16. I also put a 14" windshield wiper on to replace the 11.5" wiper that was only attached with a small zip tie. I used a #8 SS screw and lock nut rather than a zip tie The new white stern light cover, with the light on. I wanted a clear lens but this will suffice
  17. Thanks, it's nice to finally see some progress.
  18. I built a catch-all tray across the inside of the transom. All I had to do was add an 80" long piece of composite deck board and some 1/4" thick rubber stall mat on the inside/bottom. I left a 1.5" gap on both ends of the "tray" for water runoff. The tray is 83" long, almost 4" tall and 6" front to back. Before After I also put a long piece of 1/4" stall mat (almost 5ft long) inside the left seat box to have some padding between the anchor and the metal floor. And here are the single and triple rod holders I added a few weeks ago, all Tite-Loks
  19. Also added a book/map rack inside the cuddy, put all four covers on the battery terminals and enlarged a drawer on the right side seat box to create more usable storage. Before, the drawer in the middle was about 6" deep After, it's 19" deep, or tall, and holds 11 Plano style boxes The drawers drop down 3/4" when they are closed, which keeps them from sliding out. Something the previous owner did, and it's a fantastic design. I had to cut the upper part of the drawer just 12" wide because of the supporting 2x4's running lengthwise just above the widest part of the drawer, where it is 14.75" wide.
