  1. What was the down temp at 65ft down? The temps out if Henderson have been all over the place.
  2. Large trolling plate, excellent condition. I just installed a new parts kit which includes all new springs and rings, the new lanyard is still in the package. Also includes new bolts, nuts and washers for mounting to your outdrive/lower unit. I don't need this plate because my boat trolls right down without any assistance after I replaced my shift mechanism, shift cable and throttle cable. $70 for the plate. Also willing to trade for items such as Lake Clear Wabblers or Okuma Magda Pro 45 line counter reel. I live in Carthage, NY (13619). This plate hasn't seen water since I installed the new hardware and works as it should.
  3. Firewood is my only heat source, burned in a 1980-ish Fisher wood stove. I have lots of yard work to do, firewood harvesting, and still have to butcher about 30 chickens this month (just a few a day). I made it to Lake Ontario 4 times, just to get the boat ready for next year (maintenance and gear prep). I hunt in my back yard, so that doesn't require much prep. I still plan to fish as late into the year as I can. Last year I fished on Christmas day, had the whole lake to myself
  4. So, what are the final results of this weekend LC Salmon Showdown? Were any fish caught today?
  5. Thanks for the reports, just not what I was wanting to hear. Hope it improves before the end of the weekend.
  6. How is the fishing today? Must be good, no one is complaining on here...
  7. Thanks for the link, good read!
  8. I have a section of pool noodle for leaders and another section for cheaters. I'll have to find that other thread about flouro knots, but is flouro really that different than mono for knot tying? I'm not on facebook, but it sounds like a great group to be involved with.
  9. Thanks for the input on line diameter. I might only make it back out on Lake O one more time this year because of farm work and winter prep around the house, so making new leaders will be on my winter time to-do list.
  10. What kind of fish do you want to catch? What size boat do you want? What is your budget? How many people would you fish with, or would you fish alone? There are many more considerations. Test drive a boat with the seller and make sure everything works as it is intended to.
  11. I used braided line for a few years on my bass rods (nearly 15 years ago) and didn't notice any improvement in my catch rate, so I went back to mono. I have never lost a fish when using the Berkeley Big Game mono, so that's what I use on all my rods. I've also never had a knot come loose with with it either. I know other lines have their advantages but I fish for fun, and I don't get paid to fish. Keeping things simple helps keep fishing in my budget. I'll pick up some 20lb Seaguar flouro so I can try it out. Thanks!
  12. Is there any particular brand of flouro I should stay away from? I've been hesitant to use leaders longer than 6 feet because I have the fully enclosed "bulkhead" cabin on my 2160, which doesn't allow as much room for netting a fish on longer leaders. I can't back into the cabin to bring the fish closer to the boat.
  13. 30 pound big game mono for now, same as my main line.
  14. Sounds like fun, and hectic while trying to lock the reel so the drag does its job.
  15. Ok, that's good to know. I learned about cheaters while fishing with a friend this summer.
  16. Maybe that's what happened to mine, they twisted when I popped them to reel them in. They weren't twisting when I lowered them down.
  17. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
  18. Thanks for the tips. Last weekend I ran some spoons off 2 riggers without flashers. 15ft above the spoon I attached one of those Dream Weaver sticker stackers with a swivel attached to another spoon. We weren't marking a bunch of fish but when I brought the riggers up to change colors I found my cheater line twisted around the main line. I had the cheater spoon attached to a swivel, but it twisted anyway. The spoon on the end of the main line was also on a swivel in hopes of the lines not twisting. I was running all four riggers with wingers on the outside riggers. I had no tangles at all, just the cheater lines twisted around the main line that they were attached to. The cheater lines were 5-6ft long.Looks like I'll have to pick up some rubber bands so I can have a swivel on both ends of the cheater.
  19. I've seen guys pay $100 to get out of staff duty on a holiday weekend, lol. Best of luck!
  20. We'll be camping on Cranberry in the boat this weekend. We bass fish from the boat there, and drop anchor in a bay for the night. It's better than being out in the woods somewhere, very peaceful.
  21. Yep, Cranberry has a nice boat launch. Even with water levels as low as they are, I have no problems launching my Bayliner 2160 there. Wanakena is in a great location for Ranger school. My son wants to attend Paul Smiths College and major in environmental science or something along those lines. He just started at JCC in Watertown today, but he earned enough college credits in high school that he only has to do 1 year plus a summer class to get his associates degree. The only way he can attend Paul's Smiths is if he gets enough scholarships and grants.
