This is why I replaced my noisy bilge blower before running my "new to me" boat. I would guess that this explosion was caused by improper fueling with the boat in the water and/or not running the blower or allowing the engine compartment to ventilate before starting the motor. I always raise my engine cover AND run my blower before I start my engine. I also keep the blower running a few minutes after starting the engine or until I am under way. I trailer my boat and I always top off the fuel tank after each fishing trip at a gas station. I've been on a 53ft fiberglass boat in Texas when the diesel generator caught on fire and it wasn't any fun. It was an electrical problem, but the generator was in the engine room between two main Detroit diesels. It was scary!

Penn 600/625 rigger weight capacity
Todd in NY replied to greenboatluke's topic in Tackle Description
No Problem Luke. I love my Penn riggers. They are smooth and sturdy. I've had 175ft of cable out on mine this year and reeling them in is not a problem. I have 2 of them on the 360 degree swivel bases on the transom, and 2 mounted on 180 degree bases on gimbal mounts on the gunwale. I've gotten a lot of parts from Scott's Bait and Tackle. I have rebuilt all of my bases with new washers and stuff. That's also where I found and downloaded an owners manual and parts diagrams. Here's a link to their web page http://store.scottsbt.com/PennParts/Downriggers.aspx On the web site scroll down to; Penn Downriggers Select OptionBuy Parts View Schematic Owners Manual Fathom-Master Manual 600 and 625 Series Or you can click on owners manual above and it will take you to that link too. Hope this helps. -

Penn 600/625 rigger weight capacity
Todd in NY replied to greenboatluke's topic in Tackle Description
I have Penn 600/625's on both of my boats and the owners manual says max weight for those riggers is 14 pounds. I run 12.5 pound torpedo weights and they are a great combination. -

Look at this link at post #248. He explains the mountain location better than I can. This entire thread "Silvers around calf" is all about fishing around the finger, in the trench, the mountain and those general areas. It's a lot of pages to read through but it's added to almost daily by our local fishing members. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/58672-silvers-around-calf/page-13

My deepest rigger was my Sub Troll probe at 115, tried to avoid the Lakers. Another rigger down 90 and my 2 dipsy rods set at about 60' and 50' deep. Some decent hooks on or near the bottom, and some decent hooks suspended between 50 and 80' down over 130-140 FOW. Temps ranged from 47* to 53* without changing the depth of my probe. And yes, the gnats were ridiculous! What time did you head north Briarpatch? We headed in at 10:30. -

It was a calm lake this morning. Had a big screamer at 8:10 on a dipsy with a white FF combo. The #1 dipsy with the ring on was maybe 50' deep, out 125 on a #2 setting with 30lb mono. Never saw the fish because he broke the fly leader between the single hook and the treble. First time using this fly, just bought it last week. The break is just behind the hook. Real heart breaker for my son. It was the only release we had all morning. Fished from 6:30 to 10:30 south and west of the finger. There was no radio chatter about other boats catching fish, and I didn't see another boat catch a fish. Oh well, we got some lures wet so it was a good day. -

Interesting example of thinking outside the box. I also believe live bait would have worked.
