  1. i beleive my set-up goes something like: wire to dipsey,to 12in.wolverine stealth snubber ,to 4-6ft floro leader,to flasher,to 21-23inch fly leader,to fly.sometimes a longer leader is good.this is just me,try different things to see what works best for you. good luck, mike. or is it snubber first, then dipsey?.......or was it the chicken first..or....
  2. the way i remember how to run them is this: facing the BACK of the boat, take a dipsey in your two hands with the release set/locked for using(as if ready to drop it in the water)hold it up in front of your eyes, with the lead weight towards/closest to you. pull the release, and observe which way the dipsy swings.if it swings to the right it goes port, swings to the left it goes on the starboard side.hope i got his right if not its for me. again this is facing the back of the boat.with e perm marker put a p or s on it so you will know for nent time which side it goes.hope this all helps! mike m
  3. Thanks, guys! looking forward to the upcoming season.Jeff(MISS'EM)has my rods and is overhauling the tips.will be installing the new boca bearings soon and i should be good to "kick the tires, and light the fires"(from the movie ,independance day....sorry ) mike m jeff, thanks for the heads up!!!

  5. was in the Trench on saturday, went 3 for 3 on browns ,one being about 8lbs.all spoons, one off the finger then nailed two right in front of Gravley Beach.funny thing was i started out going straight to the wall starting there and looked for bait, got that first brown there, saw very little to no bait.trolled off the finger more,no bait and no fish fora while.turned back and headed for the light .house picked up brown#2 headed north after a half houror so finally had afew marks and one very, very small pod of bait......very discouraging...no bait. got to the first pill box and all of a sudden it was wall to wall bait, stacked 20ft or so for almost a 1/2 mile.i had been missing all this bait all this time.had some big marks hovering above it but could not get any takers.started pulling the port rigger to head home ,when all of a sudden the strbrd.rigger fires and another brown shows up.i think the kings are still up in the lanes and wont be showing up for awhile yet,i think its because of the warm water temps through out the water column.i think they will be a bit late but will be around longer into sept.before they head to the river.just my opinion. good luck to all in the fall derby! mike m
  6. forgot to mention, you may have had the wingers on the wrong side ,that would make them tangle, also strong currents will mess things up on occassion. instructions on how to use/run them are included in the box mike

  11. on the spin drs,is that 8ft,no matter which action hole is used on the fin? thanks
  12. forgot to say the green bead also acts as a small attractor.i will sometimes use two beads to make sure i cover the tag end of the wire and some times i will even cover the tag end with a crimp sleeve and just very slightly crimp it enough so it doesnt slide off the tag.the sleeve covers the tag to prevent wire slivers getting in my fingers my wire rods are Diawa heartlands 91/2 FT with twilli tips, they are great rods, bend well and have great back bone. mike m
  13. ducky,i put a single wrap of duct tape around the arbor of my reel and the as other have instructed, reel the line into the reel fairly tight. i then will take a green bead 10 mil. or a little larger and slide that onto the line ,then put the line through a100lb.test sampo swivle and terminate it with a double overhand knot. the reason i use a bead up front is so that the wire knots dont get caught in the twilli tip.this is just how i do mine .....results may vary! mike

  17. of, i hear some good numbers have been taken in the trench as far as bt go.word is they are in the 60- 100fow range.i would start at Whaleys near the high rosks head south to south west till you go up near the light house and head 230 deg.270 deg.off the light and troll what we call the "finger". black and silver smithwicks will do the trick as will black/silver spoons, and blue/silver spoons.may also wanna try some goby patterns.watch the graph! may wanna also consider some orange crush spoons at mid depth to possibly pick up a steelie or two.(25-45ft down area) mike very sorry about your dog
  18. oops, just realized your North Shore....that explains the colder water. ......my bad!
  19. sun, congrats on the first fish and welcome to the sight! WOW! 45 deg.surface temp?did the lake turn over? had 66 deg on the lake in Henderson Harbor last sunday on my FF and 69 deg.in some of the more protected areas.hmm mike
