  1. I agree with fisferdude track setup is the way to go. My boat I have 4 ft of traxtech track on port and starboard gunwale. On that track I have a rigger,a ball cradle, and 4 traxteck rod holders. The rod hplders will be used for 1 or 2 dipseys per side. The other rod holders used for lesdcore or weighted steel lines off inline boards. If I had to do it over I'd go with cannon rod holders just like em better. The track doesn't matter that much its pretty much all the same. Just my HO.
  2. I much prefer the VHF over the cell phone. I learned how to troll Niagara county waters of L. Ontario by listening to two charter captains on there secret channel. I miss the chatter on the radio that we used to have years ago. Sometimes that chatter totally saved my day. I've made good friends with quite a few fisherman from talking on the VHF. I find channel 10 & 68 are a good place to be on Niagara county water of L. Ontario. Sometimes we'll pick a channel no one ever uses and we'll just stay on it all day along with 2 or 3 other boats. My boat has a remote speaker for the VHF. IT sounds like your sitting in the boat right next to us. Just my HO on VHF.

  4. Yes its open. Deeper water at south launch. We always use the south. Can't tell you about north but it will be shallower.
  5. Be careful what you buy. Suffix makes a performance (micro) lead core and a traditional leadcore. Traditionals been around a long time. The sheathing is dacron I believe. We use 27lb for Ontario and Erie trolling. The micro uses a different sheathing material. I believe its spectra ,the stuff that Power pro is made of. I'm not saying the performance or micro leadcore is bad. I'm just invested in traditional leadcore. I have a bunch of reels loaded with different amounts of leadcore all with traditional 27lb. A friend likes the micro/performnce leadcore and all his reels are loaded with it. If you go traditional you gotta use either the insertion knot or the VQ knot to make connection of leadcore to mono or flourocarbon leader. Checkout Vision Quest Sportfishing on Youtube to learn the VQ knot. I used to use the insertion knot, now only use the VG.,much easier. For backer I use power pro 30lb tied to leadcore with an albright knot. I do not replace my ledcore every year, Got some thats been on reels 4-5 years. Forgot to mention performance/micro supposedly gets down 30% deeper then traditional cause its thinner. Especially like to use inline boards with sickbaits for Walleye on Erie. A 5 color catches alot of eyes for us. Late in summer we'll run four 10 color rods. Good luck.
  6. I'm on my second TR-1 in last 20 years. It really helped sell my 1989 Lund Genmar back in 2015. Current boat is a 1997 22 ft Penyan Outrage with a 9.9 Prokicker. Love my TR-1 and my prokicker. If the TR-1 dies I'll probably replace with garmin reactor 40 which I've heard very good reviews on. Love the boat control and economy of AP on the Kicker. Trolling with AP is fun. No AP is not fun IMHO.
  7. Have a 2010 Merc 9.9 pro Kicker on my 22 ft Pennyan . As mentioned in earlier post its made by Tohatsa. I've been very happy overall with the motor. Did replace the electric starter motor a couple years ago. Don't think I've replaced water pump impeller yet and I'd say its time. If I was looking to buy a new 9.9hp I'd take a good look at Tohatsa . I know the pricepoint is alot lower then Honda, Yamaha or even Merc
  8. Its coming up fast. Wish I was optimistic that the border would reopen, but I'm not. Its ashame that there punishing us fisherman. As if were spreading covid. To much government in our lives IMHO.
  9. Just wish Canada would allow us to come into there waters. We usually start spring king fishing west of the Welland canal. We'll launch at Ft. Niagara and run west looking for warmer water. We never go ashore or drop anchor. My understanding is were still not allowed to do this. Last year was first I can remember that I did not get a Canadian license. Maybe you Canadian fisherman could put some pressure on your officials to let us back in so long as we don't go ashore. We used to get in your derby years ago. I know you have good club thats very active.
  10. I ran big boards on Ontario and Erie for 20-25 years. Could not believe inlines were a better way. About 10 years ago I give inlines a good try. I'll never go back to big boards. One big difference is you gotta get used to watching the boards and not the rods. That was hard for me. I'm convinced that Inlines set up not to release put more fish in the boat. No slack and constant pressure on the fish is why. On my current boat I use track. On starboard and port gunwales theres 48" of traxsteck track. Furthest back on each track is a rigger. Forward of that are 4 adjustable traxstech rod holders. Think this would be a more efficent setup for you. There is some investment into track, rod holders, and inline boards. Lots of choices on track and holders. Cannon,Berts,Cisco, and Traxstech. Think there all good. Really like the Cannon rod holders even though I don't have them. We use Church Walleye boards with Lockjaw releases. The plastic pin on back of board is replaced with a stainless steel pin . We spin the board 5-6 time on the pin before putting line in the Lockjaw. Anyhow thats my HO. Best of luck to you this coming season. Hope its a great one for all of us.
  11. Its a Yay for me. I've heard alot of positive reviews from people using it. I'm gonna put together 2 combos and give it a try. Never went all in on copper. Just own 1 300 copper. Don't use it that much cause its not user friendly. My fishing partners don't seem to like copper. Know some good captains that said goodbye to coppers and replaced with weighted steel. Gonna try it this year.
  12. Agree on poor quality of Renowskis last few years. I pretty much stopped buying them. I have some that are over 20 years old that are still catching fish. We get rid of all 3 hooks on most sticks and upsize to a #2 mustad KVD triple grip on rear of the stick. Works for Eyes and spring Kings. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. We will start our early spring salmon fishing running a lot of straight running sticks like renowskis and bombers. This is when surface temperatures are 40-45 degrees. Typically we’re in less then 50 fow. Longer leads on riggers,3 to 5 colors off boards, slide divers on # 3 with 25-40 ft leads. Smelt are around early spring ,sticks look like smelt. As water warms and kings move out to 60-120 fow we’ll switch to spoons and flasher-flys. Usually we start spring king fishing in Wellend canal area or even further west Canadian water. We haven’t been able to go into Canadian water for almost a year. Hopefully this spring we can. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. I know the Ninja board is designed not to release until it gets to the boat. Whats it like fighting a big King with the Ninja still attached to the line ? I'm thinking of trying them for running 10 color or 300 weighted steel rods.
  15. Also have you tried this with any other banana type baits like Kwik fish or Mag Lips? We've been tipping our straight running stick baits (renowskis, bombers, bayrats) for years with a 1/2 a crawler on the back hook. We think the 1/2 crawler gets us more bites vs. no crawler. You got me thinking for next year. I got alot of old banana baits in my basement.
  16. Approximately how fast would you troll your homemade rig ? Also what would you typically run it behind ? Rigger ball, dipsey, leadcore, jet planner or does it not really matter ?
  17. Hey Rick- Thanks for all your great reports !! Us rec guys really appreciate the detail you give in your reports. Its been a challenging year for all of us. Hopefully next year we can be back to normal with tournaments etc. See ya at the Niagara expo !
  18. Anyone else having failures of these counters? Bought 3 new 2116 Scottys in 2013. Been real happy with them. All had a counter with a permanent lithium battery in it. Was told by Scotty they lasted double there normal expectancy. They sent me new counters that run on replaceable AAA batteries. Mind you this did not happen all at the same time. The old counters failed one by one over about a 6 week period. Anyhow all 3 new counters sent to me have failed. Scotty has since replaced the 3 failed new counters with 3 new ones. The old counters say made in Canada on the back.. New counters say made in Maylasia on package.Person at Scotty pretty much said the old counters were better. Also said we had a bad batch of a couple hundred new counters. Scotty has been good about covering these under warranty. I'm just sick having problems. I'm at a point where I'm carrying 1 or 2 extra counters on the boat just in case. BTW i had another new one fail today.
  19. I was advised years ago if you want to go roller rod for wire divers don't go cheap. My Talora diver rods are the most expensive rods on my boat. No regrets.
  20. Been running 9 ft talora roller dipsey rods for about 10 years now. Can't remember the model #. Use 30 lb 7 strand mason wire.Reels are Tekota 600 lc. Love this combo. Caught a ton of fish on these rods.
  21. Any opinions on Bloodrun Sea Flea line 30 lb test ?? Thinking of trying it this year. Been bumping up to 30 lb big game each year at mid summer. The 30 lb B.G. helps but we still get some feas.
  22. Don't forget about the rod holders for your new diver rods! Important and expensive decisions to be made on rod holders. On my boat I have 4ft of Traxtech track on each gunnel. That track has my outdown riggers mounted to it plus 4 adjustable traxtech rod holders. Besides running a diver rod from one of the holders on each side the other holders are used for board rods or sometimes we'll run 2 diver rods on each side..Agree with above. Don't go cheap on the diver rods or reels, there gonna get alot of work.Mason or Bloodrun 7 strand is definitely the way to go. Many days divers catch more then 1/2 our days catch. Nothing like a big King smashing a wire diver rod !!
  23. Rigger weights shoud be round or torpedo shape IMHO. Pancakes are a PITA. You can't get them to run totally true. Currents affect them alot.. Just my HO.
  24. Boga grip with builtin scale is a great tool to have on boat. Very well made and quite accurate. Mine will out last me.
