salmon fishing lake ontario from a canoe.
old man replied to craveman85's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I fished out of a canoe for a couple years after a divorce left me boatless. I thought i was pretty adept at it until seneca lake blew up on me one day. I was totally unable to make any headway. I had to paddle with the wind, beach it and walk several miles to my truck. Later that year the same thing happened on otisco, not exactly big water. You can do it but be prepared. Use a kayak paddle. -

Pike/Muskies Thousand islands

There are tons of small to medium pike all around the castle,if you can stand the traffic. There's always one or two in the creek mouth behind bolt castle's boathouse. If you need to entertain some family try casting in and around millionaire's row. Your guests can gawk at the yachts and mansions while you catch a bunch of small pike. And wherever there are lots of small ones a big one shows up now and then. -
Way to go, black cloud. Take her to bass pro today while she's still pumped. Maybe you'll score some new gear.

Interesting stuff here. I started using a butt can a few years ago after reading they leave chemicals in the water detrimental to fish. I always take the front treble of any bait that comes with 3, never hooked one on a front hook and it just makes a mess in the net. The hooks i leave on all have the barbs pinched off. As for water release it's not for me. I bust my tail for the few muskies i catch and i'm getting a photo unless it's a real dink. I use a go pro for this and get nice photos with the fish out of water about 10 seconds. I don't like jet skis or wake board boats with big stereos any more than any other fisherman but i respect their right to be on the water. I feel overall muskies have it pretty good with regulation, stocking, and angler attitude. Pike on the other hand get a raw deal in new york. If we had a limit of one a day and a 36" minimum we could all enjoy an amazing pike fishery on hundreds of waters and the cost to the state would be $00.

Pike/Muskies Thousand islands

There are lots of small to medium pike all around wellesy island and in lake of the isles. You can fill your boat with pike in eel bay. Big ones are tough to come by. The drop offs into deeper water have bigger ones but far fewer numbers. A muskie there is a long shot at best. Like kevin said you may have more fun targeting bass. Worms, minnows, crabs in 25fow will produce 4lb smallies all day. Keep your bait 2-3 feet off bottom to reduce the gobie bite. -

it was my wise crack that prompted the question so i'll try to answer. The angler has a bass style lip lock on the muskie and is using a towel for protection. I have never seen this attempted and i said i hope the towel was kevlar as a joke. I don't know of anyone who uses any cloth to handle muskies. Cloth takes off slime and that's a no-no. Judging by nitromusky's response the guy got bit. I apologize to the guy for joking about his misfortune. On the other hand i would trade a few stitches for that fish any time. As for the point system,go to the nymusky69 website and read the open tournament rules. And when you get your first keep your hand out of it's mouth. -
Musky Fishing on Fulton Chain Lakes
old man replied to slatedrake's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
The pond at old forge is old forge pond. The channel takes you to 1st lake and so forth. Town of inlet is at the end of 4th lake. There is a launch at inlet and a place to tie up and go into town. May be able to fish there, not sure. You can fish off the docks at old forge and worm up lots of panfish. -
