  1. yes,it's a hand fishing reel.
  2. I was lucky enough to grow up spending every summer at seneca where these were popular. It's just a self winding reel used to troll by hand. Back then we used a three way swivel with a heavy weight that kept it a couple feet off bottom. The bait was a flasher rig which is a bunch of blades and beads on a wire leader. The bait was a sawbellie on a gang hook rigged to spin. You would bounce this off bottom by hand as you troll. About 90 fow was normal. Not the most sporting way to fish but it worked. I still do it once in a while but i use a sutton spoon instead of the gang hooks.
  3. I had a 2000 lund 17.5 ft boat. It was great until my kids grew up and then it got pretty crowded.
  4. That is a nice one! Here's mine:still catches fish and i wouldn't sell it for any price.
  5. I fished there for four days about 10 years ago in april. Water was pretty cold with no weed growth. I contacted a decent number of fish, mostly lazy slow follows. I hooked one fish that i lost at the boat. All the fish i saw were back up in coves and creek arms. After that trip i figured i would try again in may some time. Never been back, though, once it's may why drive12 hours to fish?
  6. a great thread for sure. Like going to a boat show without the risk of buying another one.
  7. champion 186fh.
  8. yes, cabin fever has arrived on schedule. I caught a couple pike through the ice but it's not the same.fine looking baby there!
  9. Midlakes marina in macedon rents boats to tour the canal system. Might want to check with them.
  10. I think so. Can't check because i put the calendar in the box. If it didn't get there i'll stop payment and resend. Let me know.
  11. So i sold it. I sent a check to ny musky 69 about a month ago to the address on the muskies inc. calendar. It's not been cashed yet. Does anyone know anything about this?
  12. I will miss the website. The info i got there was a big help.
  13. merry christmas!
  14. I have an auction on e-bay.search "muskie tackle box 69" and it should come up. whatever I get for it goes to ny musky69.
  15. My dad went to the keys a lot and always went out of bud and mary's in Islamorada. Don't know much else except he had big mounts in his home of sailfish, wahoo, and barracuda
  16. Can't make it. Taking my yinzer wife to pittsburgh for the bills game. I ordered a salute to service shirt from the bills for this game. This is what i got: nice organization. No wonder we can't win. Good luck to those who fish.
  17. Things ARE getting better. ytthese pics are from a 1983 issue of "new york fish finder" all these fish are dead. Catch and release was rare only 30 years ago. Education is everything. My dad taught me pike and musky kill all the good fish and should never be released.i teach my boys esox are a precious resource and all are released.kudos to you guys and your sign initiative. When it's time to buy the signs hit me up and i'll help pay for them.
  18. too close to the holidays to spend any more $ on myself, but next year i'm going to get another one and mount it on my trolling motor. Try to get some underwater action shots.
  19. funny you say that. The larger fish surfaced near my boat so i threw a few casts at it. Then it porposed again and i tried again. After the fifth time it surfaced and i casted to it it got annoyed enough to eat and i caught it. First sunbather i ever caught so it can be done.
  20. Awesome! Congrats on a great fish!
  21. Two of them there,sorry
  22. I fish alone most of the time and have a long history of bad photos of nice fish. Problem solved. i mounted a go pro on my outboard. Once the fish is in the net i turn it on in video mode, and hold the fish in front of it. In 10 seconds i have 300 pictures to choose from and the fish is swimming again in record time.the smaller fish was out of the water for 7 seconds. Oh yeah, and otisco was on fire til noon today.water is 57 and clear. Caught 3 and lost 2 to jumps. All in 9fow on a nickle redeye.caught of them here.
  23. If you're casting for muskies the shimanos will treat you well. I used calcutta100s forever with no problems. A few years ago after paying off my mortgage i sprung for a TE400. Real nice but it did fail once. Service was good, though, got it back in 6 days. This year i bought a 200d. Now that's a reel! It's small, light, and works amazing. It holds about 110 yards of 50 lb braid. It'll set you back a truck payment but worth it imo. Casting big baits can burn up a cheaper reel in a hurry.
