  1. A recent video that was posted on the open forum titled First Confirmed Spring King of 09 has got a chatterstick in the end of the video. Check it out! I remember seeing this video and paying to much attention to the plug they caught the salmon until I clicked on Yakee's link, and there is what those guys were using. Not sure how to enter in a direct link to that post, but with my computer saviness I can tell you it was posted on 4/03/09 on the open forum, it's currently sitting on page 2. I'm sure we all saw it as much as we are all fish junkies, when we see a title like that it doesn't go unchecked. Perhaps a few chattersticks should find their way to my tackle box. Chris
  2. I concur. Don not shoot rifled slugs out of your rilfed barrel. You can in short order make an accurate gun very inaccurate. And why take a chance at wounding a deer, or missing that buck of a lifetime. As stated above shoot the sabot slugs. There are a ton of different sabots to shoot, and some really cool rounds. Do your homework, and you'll find a round that shoots well in your gun, and fits your hunting style. I shoot a 20gage with a rifled barrel, 2-3/4 inche sabots, the Remington Copper Solids. I'm a brush hunter so distance isn't what I'm interested in, usually a 50 yard shot is a long ways in the places I like to hunt. With open sights at 50 yards, I can put 3 slugs in the top of soup. That shooting off the picnic table in my inlaws hay field. You'll spend more money for five rounds, but that may make you take only good shots, as emptying you gun will be a $15 investment. Good Luck
  3. I agree, at least you got out. Hopefully my turn will be this weekend.
  4. agian thanks guys. I don't think it should be that hard to trouble shoot. I was looking at the wiring diagrams yesterday, seems pretty simple. Gotta like working on these older engines, no fuel injection or computers to deal with. I'm going to check those web sites today too and do some more research, it never hurts to do research.
  5. Thanks guys! Upgrady, Deffinately the same exact problem you have. Very sporatic problem, fish three days in row and it might be problem matic on the first day or the third day, problem shows up if the boat sits for a week, or the engine is shut down for 6 hours while trolling with the kicker. No rhyme or reason. Same deal, jiggle the throttle and it would all of sudden fire, tap on the solenoid and it would fire. I looked at the contacts and they look pretty clean, although it was snowing when I was doing this and didn't get into it too far. I'll deffinately know for sure on Saturday, instead of fishing, my Dad and I are going to get the volt meter out and make sure that the starter and solenoid is the problem. Thanks for the input, nice to know there are a couple other guys out there with the same motor. Chris
  6. Uncovered the boat yesterday, installed all my electronics, and new Subtroll, and time came to hook up the flush kit and fire up the engine. That's where everything came to a screeching hault. I've got a good battery, 1 year old, putting out 12.8 volts. I had just pulled it off a trickle charge. Turn the key and not even a click from the starter solenoid. It's and old enough engine that the solenoid is seperate from the starter motor itself. I haven't done any trouble shooting as of yet, but I think that it may be the starter solenoid itself, or perhaps the neutral safety switch. My throttle contol is a little goofy that's why I think that. Just looking for some thoughts from some of you guys that have more Mercruiser experience than I. Also... any good methods to take spray paint off the fiberglass hull. That might be a good project for a blow-off day.
  7. Our biggest secret is to catch the fish before the Yankee Troller team does. SHHHHHH, Keep that one to yourself Yankee.
  8. I'm not a pro but.... I think it's a good color to have in your box. As Yankee Stated above, it's not a "go-to" pattern on my boat, but it's one that I'll run on a slow day, and may put fish in the boat. If you've got a handfull of them try some tape or paint on some of them they may produce some fish for you.
  9. I was there on Sunday morning taking the water temperature. Launch looks great, no ice, no debris, and no dock. Might be a little tricky without a dock.
  10. Gambler is right. Pick your days in March and there is some great early season brown fishing. Just look for the warmer stained water, and don't be afraid to fish 5 feet or less if you have to. Just be careful that close to shore of anything just under the service of the water that may do some major harm to your boat.
  11. have you looked at the toyota's??? 4-Runner or Tacoma??? I pulled my old 18' starcraft (aluminum, w/ 85 horse Evinrude + 10 horse Honda, some times w/ 20 gal of gas) W/ my Tacoma, 4-cyld truck, it had a 3500 lbs towing capacity. The 6 cylds jump up to a 5500 lbs towing capacity. One last thing... 200k miles on the truck, and only ever had to replace the brakes once. Besides tires and oil changes that is the only other time I put a wrench to the truck.
  12. Hey Buddy! Not sure yet where I'm going to order. You got any particular place in mind? I've just some print outs of NK and Michigan stringers I want to add to the collection. Some of the Stinger patterans are hard to find. I'll give you call this weekend.
  13. You're gonna have that boat all slimed up even before I get the chance to pull the shrink wrap off the Jolly II. Can't wait to hear the story and see the pictures. That's a good deal on that planer mast. I would've done the same thing you did. I just got a subtroll a month ago, so no more big purchases for the boat this year. However I'm planning on ordering some spoons. After all my baby girl needs to get a tackle box started. Any particular colors or patterns you might be interested in. If I'm going to pay for shipping, might as well get more bang for my buck and put in a big order. Let me know if you're interested.
  14. Gambler, just curious about that big 36" pike. I know you were talking about the fungus on it, but I'm curious about the red, blood streaks on it. Are those from bringing it on the ice and it bleeding, or are those hemorage streaks under the skin?? Just curious, cause the fish looks as if it has VHS. Nice going though, that is a very nice fish. It's been a long time for me since I put a pike on the ice over 30 inches.
  15. Good question Yankee! My buddies and I have been talking about doing the same thing. A road trip to N. Carolina for some hog hunting. From what I've read it looks like a lot of fun. One more question to add.... How are they to eat?? I've had wild hog before when I live in norhtern Fla, but them good ole boys knew how to cook too.
